Seismic microzonation by means of cluster analysis

The identification of areas with uniform behaviour in seismic perspective is a very complex task that involves the simultaneous assessment of many parameters. In this paper we propose an automatic procedure for the seismic microzonation based on cluster analysis and performed by means of an agglomerative hierarchical algorithm. It exploits a proximity matrix specifically defined on the parameters space and the average linkage criteria. The procedure has been used to carry out the expedite seismic microzonation of some high seismic hazard areas, only using the data inferred by the extensive application of the HVSR technique. Combination of advanced oxidation processes and active carbons adsorption for the treatment of simulated saline wastewater

Abstract In the present work, an integrated process combining three different technologies, i.e. heterogeneous photocatalysis, homogeneous ozonation and adsorption on granular activated carbon (GAC) was used for the treatment of a synthetic solution simulating saline wastewater. The synergistic effects between the different methods enhance the oxidation rate of the organic compounds in the integrated process, so that its use may result sustainable. It has been found that a relatively low oxidation rate is sufficient to obtain the highest synergy between the three technologies and to maximize the performances. On the structure of the extra-tropical transition layer from in-situ observations

Abstract. In-situ observations of atmospheric tracers from multiple measurement campaigns over the period 1994–2007 were combined to investigate the Extra-tropical Transition Layer (ExTL) region and the properties of large scale meridional transport. We used potential temperature, equivalent latitude and distance relative to the local dynamical tropopause as vertical coordinates to highlight the behaviour of trace gases in the tropopause region. Vertical coordinates based on constant PV surfaces allowed us to relate the dynamical definition of the tropopause with trace gases distributions and vertical gradients and hence analyse its latitudinal dependence and seasonal variability. Abstract Elemental bromine is an industrially relevant compound traditionally produced from bromide ions by using chlorine as the oxidizing agent. Problems related to transportation and handling of the corrosive, expensive and toxic chlorine make green synthetic alternatives highly desirable. Koblācija savu popularitāti iemantojusi ar vairākām priekšrocībām, salīdzinot to ar konvencionālo elektroķirurģiju, bet literatūra, kas apraksta tās ietekmi uz brūces parametriem ir ļoti limitēta. Diplomdarbs tika izstrādāts ar mērķi noteikt galvenās un nozīmīgākās atšķirības starp koblācijas veidotas brūces parametriem, izmantojot dažādas jaudas, elektrodus un enerģijas ģeneratorus. Brūces tika veidotas trīs atšķirīgos audos – nierē, mēlē un ādā. Pētījuma praktiskā daļa tika veikta sadarbībā ar MedTecResearch centru Vācijā un Rīgas Austrumu klīniskās universitātes slimnīcas Patoloģijas centru.
