Ceramic/metal nanocomposites by lyophilization: Spark plasma sintering and hardness

The present study is focused on the procedure of spray-drying and lyophilization techniques for the preparation of ceramic/metal nanocomposites. The results of the study at all stages are compared with those corresponding to powders conventionally dried by heating in furnace. Starting from aqueous solutions of metal salts and ceramic powders, the procedure follows with spray-drying, lyophilization, calcination of the resulting powders and subsequent Spark Plasma Sintering (SPS). Abstract A structured Pt(1 wt%)/ceria–zirconia/alumina catalyst and the metal-free ceria–zirconia/alumina were prepared, by dip-coating, over a cordierite monolithic support. XRD analyses and Rietveld refinements of the structural data demonstrate that in the Pt supported catalysts ceria–zirconia is present as a Ce 0.6 Zr 0.4 O 2 homogeneous solid solution and that the deposition over the cordierite doesn’t produce any structural modification. Moreover no Pt sintering occurs. By comparing the XRD patterns recorded on Pt/ceria–zirconia/alumina and ceria–zirconia/alumina after three redox cycles, it results that Pt, favouring the structural reorganization of the ceria–zirconia into one cubic …

Identification and relevance of the CD95-binding domain in the N-terminal region of ezrin.

The CD95 (Fas/APO-1) linkage to the actin cytoskeleton through ezrin is an essential requirement for susceptibility to the CD95-mediated apoptosis in CD4+ T cells. We have previously shown that moesin was not involved in the binding to CD95. Here we further support the specificity of the ezrin/CD95 binding, showing that radixin did not bind CD95. The ezrin region specifically and directly involved in the binding to CD95 was located in the middle lobe of the ezrin FERM domain, between amino acids 149 and 168. El trabajo desarrollado en esta Tesis se centra en estudio experimental del comportamiento colectivo de los estados excitados de los núcleos semimágicos con N=50 en función de la ocupación del orbital g9/2 de protones, a través de la medida de la vida media de los estados "yrast" 4+ de los núcleos 92Mo y 94Ru. En particular, se ha investigado la conservación de "seniority" a lo largo de la capa g9/2 que es la primera capa donde podría no conservarse. En la presente tesis doctoral se pretende por una parte sintetizar en la escala nanométrica pigmentos cerámicos clásicos de uso industrial, como son el pigmento de color amarillo V-ZrO2, y el pigmento de color naranja-amarillo Cr,Sb-TiO2, mediante métodos de síntesis no convencionales. La presente tesis doctoral presenta el desarrollo de diferentes tipos de catalizadores para la conversión de diferentes compuestos derivados de la biomasa en γ-valerolactona, un compuesto de alto valor añadido. En primer lugar se llevó a cabo el estudio de la producción de γ-valerolactona a partir de ácido levulínico, uno de los compuestos más fácilmente aislables de la biomasa y con elevado potencial de transformación.
