Bi-layered polyurethane – Extracellular matrix cardiac patch improves ischemic ventricular wall remodeling in a rat model

As an intervention to abrogate ischemic cardiomyopathy, the concept of applying a temporary, local patch to the surface of the recently infarcted ventricle has been explored from a number of design perspectives. Two important features considered for such a cardiac patch include the provision of appropriate mechanical support and the capacity to influence the remodeling pathway by providing cellular or biomolecule delivery. Flexible multi-beam light-sheet fluorescence microscope for live imaging without striping artifacts

The development of light-sheet fluorescence microscopy (LSFM) has greatly expanded the experimental capabilities in many biological and biomedical research fields, enabling for example live studies of murine and zebrafish neural activity or of cell growth and division. Introduction: The sensitivities of conventional mycobacterial culture in solid or liquid media and acid-fast bacilli (AFB) smear microscopy for Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex (MTBC) detection in extrapulmonary specimens are suboptimal. We evaluated the field performance of the Abbott RealTime MTB assay for the diagnosis of extrapulmonary tuberculosis in a low-prevalence setting. In silico and in vitro prediction of the toxicological effects of individual and combined mycotoxins.

3-Acetyldeoxynivalenol (3-AcDON) and 15-acetyldeoxynivalenol (15-AcDON) are converted to deoxynivalenol (DON) in vivo and their simultaneous presence may increase DON intake. Mixtures of DON and its derivatives are a public health concern. In this study DON, 3-AcDON and 15-AcDON were evaluated in vitro and in silico. The in vitro cytotoxicity of DON and its derivatives individually and combined was determined by the Neutral Red (NR) assay in human hepatocarcinoma (HepG2) cells. The concentrations tested were from 1.25 to 15 μM (DON) and from 0.937 to 7.5 μM (DON derivatives).
