A sun-induced vegetation fluorescence retrieval method from top of atmosphere radiance for the FLEX/Sentinel-3 TanDEM mission
2015
A new fluorescence retrieval method is proposed to support ESA's 8th Earth Explorer FLuorescence EXplorer/Sentinel-3 (FLEX-S3) candidate tandem mission. FLEX is the first mission specially dedicated to measure the Sun-Induced vegetation chlorophyll fluorescence (SIF) strongly related with the vegetation photosynthetic activity. Most hyperspectral fluorescence retrieval algorithms available in the literature are very sensitive to true reflectance modelization and/or they assume the atmospheric status as known. The proposed algorithm delivers the retrieval of full fluorescence spectrum at canopy level by using only Top Of Atmosphere (TOA) radiances from S3 and FLEX as input. Once the spatial …
Thioxanthone: on the shape of the first absorption band
2010
The equilibrium ground state geometry of thioxanthone (TX) has been investigated and its effect on the vertical excitation energies and photophysical behaviour has been explained. In line with this purpose, the first absorption band of TX has been simulated and analysed in detail. The calculations show that TX is planar, C(2v) symmetric in its ground state. The energy of the low-lying excited states seems to be rather insensitive along the butterfly motion coordinate. The shoulder in the first absorption band (at around 3.43 eV) is shown to be caused by vibrational progression of various in-plane modes and does not justify the hypothesis that two photophysically distinct conformers of TX ex…
Vergleichende tierexperimentelle Untersuchungen mit Kaffee und Tee
1969

Dynamic-mechanical and dielectric measurements have been performed with some polycarbonate samples. In one set of experiments care was taken to avoid any absorption of moisture. In other sets of experiments, samples were exposed to atmospheric humidity and to boiling water. The glass transition temperature was found to be highly affected by the absorption of water and by the test conditions.
Polyaminoazide mixtures for the synthesis of pH-responsive calixarene nanosponges
2019
Two mixtures of polyaminoazides were synthesized by a nucleophilic displacement strategy providing no separation of the components. The mixtures were adequately characterized by means of combined HR-ESIMS, FTIR and NMR techniques and, despite their complexity, they were successfully used to accomplish the subsequent preparation of pH-sensitive calixarene hyper-reticulated nanosponge materials. The desired responsivity to pH variations of the nanosponges obtained was verified by means of absorption tests on a set of organic pollutant model molecules.
Ezetimibe, cardiovascular risk and atherogenic dyslipidaemia.
2010
Ezetimibe is a selective cholesterol absorption inhibitor with an excellent side-effect profile, able to reduce low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol by 15-25% from baseline in monotherapy and on top of statins and fibrates. Yet, it seems that ezetimibe produces quantitative rather than qualitative changes in LDL, with small net effects on atherogenic dyslipidaemia. This is supported by findings from the Ezetimibe and Simvastatin in Hypercholesterolemia Enhances Atherosclerosis Regression (ENHANCE) study on atherosclerosis progression, where the addition of ezetimibe to simvastatin in patients with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolaemia did not affect the mean change in carotid int…
Effects of statins, fibrates, rosuvastatin, and ezetimibe beyond cholesterol: the modulation of LDL size and subclasses in high-risk patients.
2007
Increasing evidence suggests that the quality-rather than just the quantity-of low-density lipoproteins (LDLs) exerts a great influence on cardiovascular risk. LDLs comprise multiple subclasses with discrete size and density, and different physicochemical composition, metabolic behaviors, and atherogenicity. Individuals generally cluster into 2 broad subgroups. Most have a predominance of large LDLs, and some have a higher proportion of small particles. Small, dense LDLs are good predictors of cardiovascular events and progression of coronary artery disease. Their predominance has been accepted as an emerging cardiovascular risk factor by the National Cholesterol Education Program Adult Tre…
Solid-state compatibility of Ca:LaNbO4 with perovskite cathodes: Evidences from X-ray microspectroscopy
2022
The solid-state compatibility between calcium-doped lanthanum niobate and three perovskite cathode materials was investigated using two X-ray microbeam techniques, micro X-ray fluorescence and micro X-ray absorption spectroscopy. The cathode powders (lanthanum strontium ferrite, either cobalt or copper-doped, and lanthanum strontium cobaltite) in contact with the dense electrolyte pellet were annealed at 1150 degrees C for 12-144 h to simulate the effect of thermal stresses due to fabrication and long-term operation. As a result, several interdiffusion phenomena were then observed on the bilayer cross-sections: in particular, the chemical state and coordination environment of calcium, iron,…
Cation Diffusion and Segregation at the Interface between Samarium-Doped Ceria and LSCF or LSFCu Cathodes Investigated with X-ray Microspectroscopy
2017
The chemical compatibility between electrolytes and electrodes is an extremely important aspect governing the overall impedance of solid-oxide cells. Because these devices work at elevated temperatures, they are especially prone to cation interdiffusion between the cell components, possibly resulting in secondary insulating phases. In this work, we applied X-ray microspectroscopy to study the interface between a samarium-doped ceria (SDC) electrolyte and lanthanum ferrite cathodes (La0.4Sr0.6Fe0.8Cu0.2O3(LSFCu); La0.9Sr0.1Fe0.85Co0.15O3(LSCF)), at a submicrometric level. This technique allows to combine the information about the diffusion profiles of cations on the scale of several micromet…
Uptake of actinides by calcium silicate hydrate (C-S-H) phases
2018
Abstract The sorption of actinides (Th, U – Am) was studied in dependence of the solid-to-liquid (S/L) ratio (0.5–20.0 g/L) and the calcium-to-silicon (C:S) ratio. The C:S ratio was varied between 1.80 and 0.70 to simulate the changing composition of the C-S-H phases during cement degradation from high to low C:S ratios. The decrease of the calcium content in the C-S-H phases by time is accompanied by a decrease in pH in the corresponding suspensions from 12.6 to 10.2. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) of the C-S-H phases showed an increasing depletion of Ca on the surface with increasing C:S ratio in comparison to the composition of the solid phase as a whole. The sorption experiments…
