A series of new N-arylated ferrocenepyrazole structures, carrying different donor or acceptor substituents in the para position of the aryl ring, has been synthesized by the Chan-Lam cross-coupling reaction. The nonplanar geometric molecular structure of some of these chromophores together with their crystal packing was determined by X-ray diffraction, and the HOMO and LUMO energy levels were evaluated by electrochemical and optical measurements and by density functional theoretical (DFT) calculations. The reactivity of palladium acetate inside a poly(4-vinylpyridine-co-divinylbenzene) polymer is strongly influenced by the establishment of interaction between the Pd precursor and the pyridyl functional group in the polymer. Diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy (DRIFTS) and simultaneous X-ray absorption near edge structure (XANES) and small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) techniques have been applied to monitor the reactivity of palladium acetate in the presence of H-2 and CO as a function of temperature. X-ray Absorption Study of Gallium Arsenide at the Ga and As K-edges

We present X-ray absorption study of gallium arsenide at the Ga and As K-edges. The analysis of the X-ray absorption fine structure was done in the framework of the multiple-scattering theory. Both XANES and EXAFS regions are considered. The calculated signals are in very good agreement with experimental data. It is shown that for both edges multiple-scattering contributions are negligible for wavevector values greater than 3 Å-1, and single-scattering analysis can be used without significant loss of accuracy in that region.
Carbonyl metallo immuno assay: a new application for Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy

Abstract We describe here the development of a new, non-isotopic immunological assay termed CMIA (carbonyl metallo immunoassay) that uses metal carbonyl complexes as tracers and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) as the detection method. This assay is based on the particular spectral features of these complexes, which show very strong absorption bands in the 1800–2200 cm −1 spectral range where proteins and organic molecules do not absorb. The objective was to devise and apply a novel modelling approach to combine segmental in situ rat perfusion data and in vitro cell culture data, in order to elucidate the contribution of efflux in drug absorption kinetics. The fluoroquinolone CNV97100 was used as a model P-gp substrate. In situ intestinal perfusion was performed in rat duodenum, jejunum, ileum and colon to measure the influence of P-gp expression on efflux. Inhibition studies of CNV97100 were performed in the presence of verapamil, quinidine, cyclosporin A and p-aminohippuric acid. Our aim is to develop and to validate the in situ closed loop perfusion method in rat colon and to compare with small intestine and Caco-2 cell models. Correlations with human oral fraction absorbed (Fa) and human colon fraction absorbed (Fa_colon) were developed to check the applicability of the rat colon model for controlled release (CR) drug screening. Sixteen model drugs were selected and their permeabilities assessed in rat small intestine and colon, and in Caco-2 monolayers. Generation of defects in amorphous SiO(2) assisted by two-step absorption on impurity sites.

Generation of the Si dangling bond defect in amorphous SiO(2) (E' centre) induced by tunable pulsed UV laser radiation was investigated by in situ optical absorption measurements. The defect generation efficiency peaks when the photon energy equals ∼5.1 eV, it depends quadratically on laser intensity and is correlated with the native linear absorption due to Ge impurities. We propose a model in which the generation of E' is assisted by a two-step absorption process occurring on Ge impurity sites.

Abstract. Discrete in situ atmospheric measurements of molecular iodine (I2) were carried out at Mace Head and Mweenish Bay on the west coast of Ireland using diffusion denuders in combination with a gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) method. I2, IO and OIO were also measured by long-path differential optical absorption spectroscopy (LP-DOAS). The simultaneous denuder and LP-DOAS I2 measurements were well correlated (R2=0.80) but the denuder method recorded much higher concentrations.
