Three studies were carried out to examine the extent to which family composition, size and atmosphere, parental control, and the level of parental education and socioeconomic status, are associated with young people’s problems at school, and later on in society. Autonomy-supportive and controlling styles of teaching are usually considered to be the opposite ends of a single continuum. An alternative view, however, is that individuals can perceive both styles simultaneously, which suggests that they are different constructs ( Bartholomew, Ntoumanis, Ryan, Bosch, & Thøgersen-Ntoumani, 2011 ). Using cluster analysis, Study 1 (N = 160) confirmed that both teaching styles were perceived by students. The Relationship Between Goal Orientation, Social Comparison Responses, Self-Efficacy, and Performance

The present study examined whether social comparison responses (identification and contrast in social comparison) mediated the relationship between goal orientation (promotion and prevention) and self-efficacy, and whether self-efficacy was subsequently related with a better performance. As expected, the results showed that promotion-oriented individuals – who are focused on achieving success – had higher self-efficacy than prevention-oriented individuals – who are focused on avoiding failure. A rare case of acute idiopathic colocolic intussusception in an adult patient

Abstract Adult intussusception is a rare condition that is frequently associated with malignancy and requires surgical approach. Symptoms are often non-specific and of subacute or chronic character. Therefore, computerized tomography (CT) scan is the most commonly used modality for identifying adult intussusception. A 51-year-old female presented with a 1-day history of increasing abdominal pain. Abdominal ultrasound and CT scan revealed intussusception. Intra-operatively, colocolic intussusception was present and laparoscopically reduced. A lead point was found neither intra-operatively nor in post-operative ileocolonoscopy and resection of involved bowel segments was not necessary.
