Through the Looking Glass: The Attitudes of Polish Political Parties towards the EU before and after Accession
2009
Abstract The objective of this paper is a comparison of the attitudes of parliamentary parties towards the European Union in terms of Poland's accession to the European Union. Therefore the parliamentary parties' attitudes after the elections in 2001 and 2005 have been analyzed and compared. Another significant aim of this paper is the identification of factors conditioning these attitudes as well as changes in them. The change from a candidate to a member of the EU forced the political parties to redefine their attitudes towards Europe since the character of the European issue itself also changed. This especially applies to those parties which strongly opposed Poland's accession to the EU.…
Mobile Security with Location-Aware Role-Based Access Control
2012
Published version of an article from the book: Security and privacy in mobile information and communication systems. Also available on SpringerLink: http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/978-3-642-30244-2_15 This paper describes how location-aware Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) can be implemented on top of the Geographically eXtensible Access Control Markup Language (GeoXACML). It furthermore sketches how spatial separation of duty constraints (both static and dynamic) can be implemented using GeoXACML on top of the XACML RBAC profile. The solution uses physical addressing of geographical locations which facilitates easy deployment of authorisation profiles to the mobile device. Location-aware RBAC c…
Narratives on access to higher education : educational leadership looking beyond barriers
2017
This research aims to understand the social, economic and political complexities that surround a learner’s access to higher education in South Africa. The objective of the study is therefore to particularly examine the enabling and constraining factors in accessing higher education for the participants in the study. The study looks at the experiences of four young men and women (two men and two women) from South Africa that led to their educational achievements. It weaves their success stories through the complex interwoven social, familial, school and community environments. The narratives have been observed in con-text to existing key educational leadership theories and mainly by evaluati…
Öffnung für alle
2017
The printing press played a major role in the emergence of an open science system. The Mertonian scientific norms reflect this openness. They also demonstrate, however, that science understands itself as a profession of certified experts. The openness of science was enabled by social closure. Open science challenges this social closure of scientific practice.
Filter multiplexing by use of spatial Code Division Multiple Access approach.
2003
The increasing popularity of optical communication has also brought a demand for a broader bandwidth. The trend, naturally, was to implement methods from traditional electronic communication. One of the most effective traditional methods is Code Division Multiple Access. In this research, we suggest the use of this approach for spatial coding applied to images. The approach is to multiplex several filters into one plane while keeping their mutual orthogonality. It is shown that if the filters are limited by their bandwidth, the output of all the filters can be sampled in the original image resolution and fully recovered through an all-optical setup. The theoretical analysis of such a setup …
Residential satisfaction and spatial configurations in a periurban area
2011
Since the 1960s, French cities are concerned with an urban sprawl process. This urban sprawl leads to the emergence of a particular space located at the interface between the city and the countryside: the periurban. The social, morphological or the spatial practices of its inhabitants give the suburban a particular singularity and specificity. It is a space of contradiction that attracts both because of the "natural" living environment that it provides to households, but also because of its proximity to the city and the opportunities related to accessibility to various urban amenities. To understand more precisely this enthusiasm for periurban areas, this thesis proposes to explore the indiv…
Azo-Sulforhodamine Dyes: A Novel Class of Broad Spectrum Dark Quenchers
2014
A rapid access to a novel class of water-soluble dark quencher dyes was achieved using an azo-coupling reaction between a fluorescent primary arylamine derived from a sulforhodamine 101 scaffold and a tertiary aniline equipped with different bioconjugatable groups. The thus obtained nonfluorescent azo-sulforhodamine hybrids display a broad quenching range spanning the visible to NIR regions. This was demonstrated through the preparation and enzymatic activation of FRET-based fluorogenic substrates of urokinase.
An Experimental Study of Lexical Access in the Writing and Naming of Isolated Words
1998
Unlike speech production, lexical access in written production has not systematically been investigated experimentally. Four experiments were run on literate adults to support the view that although the spoken and written language production systems may obviously share some processing levels, they also both have some specific processing components. The general findings provide evidence for such a view and are discussed in the framework of studies in verbal production conducted on normals and on braindamaged patients. Contrairement a la production verbale orale, l'acces lexical en production verbale ecrite n'a pas ete etudie experimentalement de facon systematique. Quatre experiences ont ete…
First Experiences on an Accurate SPH Method on GPUs
2017
It is well known that the standard formulation of the Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics is usually poor when scattered data distribution is considered or when the approximation near the boundary occurs. Moreover, the method is computational demanding when a high number of data sites and evaluation points are employed. In this paper an enhanced version of the method is proposed improving the accuracy and the efficiency by using a HPC environment. Our implementation exploits the processing power of GPUs for the basic computational kernel resolution. The performance gain demonstrates the method to be accurate and suitable to deal with large sets of data.
Signal detection for spread spectrum communication systems with gradient algorithm
2012
Retrieval process of original symbols of a spread spectrum based communication system is tried to be improved by Gradient Algorithm (GA) and Blind Source Separation (BSS) principles. Two simple schemes, based on two energy functions are presented. Time correlation properties of the channel are used as advantages in developing the filter coefficients for the receiver. Direct Sequence - Code Division Multiple Access (DS-CDMA) technique based system setup is used for algorithm testing purposes. This is identified as one of the most stable spread spectrum communication technique where most of the technologies developed for that are highly compatible with High Speed Packet Access (HSPA) transmis…
