This paper exploits the results of agency theory with the aim of contributing a new viewpoint and a form for analysis of the current functioning of the occupational injury and disease section of the Social Security system in its mission of providing incentives for prevention. Evaluating a Two-Level vs. Three-Level Fall Risk Screening Algorithm for Predicting Falls Among Older Adults

Background and Objectives: Falls account for the highest proportion of preventable injury among older adults. Thus, the United States' Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) developed the Stopping Elderly Accidents, Deaths, and Injuries (STEADI) algorithm to screen for fall risk. We referred to our STEADI algorithm adaptation as “Quick-STEADI” and compared the predictive abilities of the three-level (low, moderate, and high risk) and two-level (at-risk and not at-risk) Quick-STEADI algorithms. Personal experiences in 200 emergency calls with different types of ambulance gave a chance to evaluate the modern possibilities of resuscitation at the place of accident and during transportation. Introducción: Las recomendaciones del ATPIII y las SSCC europeas en prevención primaria cardiovascular aconsejan para la estimación del riesgo individual las funciones de Framingham y SCORE respectivamente. Ambas disponen de versiones calibradas para la población española. Todas, excepto Framingham(ATPIII), han sido derivadas para aplicarlas en un rango de edad limitado. Risk analysis using fuzzy set theory of accidental exposure of medical staff during brachytherapy procedures

Using fuzzy set theory, this paper presents results from risk analyses that explore potential exposure of medical operators working in a high dose rate brachytherapy irradiation plant. In these analyses, the HEART methodology, a first generation method for human reliability analysis, has been employed to evaluate the probability of human error. This technique has been modified on the basis of fuzzy set concepts to take into account, more directly, the uncertainties of the so-called error-promoting factors on which the method is based.
