Teenage Time Use and Educational Attainment in Adulthood in Finland
2021
We investigated the role of teenage everyday social ties in educational outcomes by examining the association between teenage time use and educational attainment in adulthood. The sample consisted of young people aged 10–18 from the 1979 Finnish Time Use Survey, and the same respondents’ educational attainment later in life recorded from population register data at the year of 40th birthday (n = 366 men and 393 women). We assessed the associations of time spent with the parents, on studying, leisure activities, as well as social connectedness with friends and participation in extracurricular activities, with educational outcomes. Our findings indicated that time spent with the father is pos…
Many-particle theory for time-dependent quantum transport in nanostructures
2012
During the recent decades, molecular electronics has established its place as one of the promising fields in the nanoscience. The possibility to manufacture and control molecular junctions where single molecules are squeezed between the conducing electrodes has opened up new possibilities to develop nanoscale devices which could be employed as building blocks for future nanoelectronic applications. The driving force for this new branch of physics has been the experimental advances but also theoretical methods have been under intensive study and many theoretical tools have been developed to understand the electron transport processes in the nanoscale systems. This thesis focuses on developin…
The Agency and Practical Learning of a Lay Advocate in Seventeenth-Century Helsinki : The Case of Gabriel Abrahamsson
2018
This chapter discusses seventeenth-century Sweden, where academically trained advocates and procurators emerged but attempts of advocacy monopoly failed. The case of Gabriel Abrahamsson—a son of a pastor, a former cavalryman and farmer, and, later on, a lower-level civil servant in Helsinki—proves that no specific privileged status or academic education was needed for advocacy in lower courts. The tradition to use any reasonable man as a legal representative continued, and trusted men from various social backgrounds with self-acquired legal skills acted as lay advocates. Gabriel learned law by doing. His voluminous private and office litigation enabled him to act increasingly as a legal rep…

Maamme romaani : esseitä kirjallisuuden vuosikymmenistä
2017
Maamme romaani tarkastelee Suomen itsenäisyyden ajan romaania. Sitä käydään läpi vuosikymmenittäin, muutama teos kerrallaan. Klassikoiden ohella huomiota saavat myös vähemmän tunnetut romaanit. Suomalainen orjatyttö kohtaa Eevan luokan. Nuorena nukkuneen seurana on Uni. Lajista, kuten meistä, on moneksi.
IURA NOVIT CURA sacīkstes principa kontekstā
2017
Viens no civilprocesa pamatprincipiem ir sacīkstes princips, atbilstoši kuram puses savas procesuālās tiesības īsteno sacīkstes formā, kas attiecībā uz prasītāju īstenojas arī tajā, ka viņš izvēlas, kādu prasību tiesā celt un kādā materiāltiesiskā tvērumā prasības pieteikumā norādītos apstākļus ietvert. Līdz ar to autore nepiekrīt judikatūrā atzītajam, ka prasības pamats ir nevis tiesību norma, bet gan faktiskie apstākļi, kuri rada prasījumu. Pretēji minētajam, autore secina, ka prasības pamats ir gan apstākļi, gan tiesību norma, kura jānorāda prasītājam, jo tiesai nav pienākums pašai meklēt tiesību normu ar tādām tiesiskām sekām, kas satura ziņā atbilst prasītāja prasībai, tāpat kā tiesai …

Hybrid Work: Gen Z Expectations and Internal Employer Branding Implications
2022
Gen Z – also known as ‘Generation Z’ or ‘iGeneration’ born between 1997 and 2009 – has been hit the hardest by the pandemic and remote work. Whilst the global workforce will include nearly 27% of Gen Z by 2025, it appears essential to address their needs and preferences. This chapter provides new Gen Z white-collar workers’ insights hitherto scarce in research – comparably to those of Gen Z students – to help understand how to motivate, engage, and develop them. In particular, Gen Z's values and expectations for hybrid work emerge from 15 qualitative online interviews leveraged to advance recommendations to enhance internal employer branding – that is branding intended for the organisation’…
