Crystal structure of 4-[(adamantan-1-yl)amino]naphthalene-1,2-dione
2019
The title compound, an example of a stable 1,2-naphthoquinone, illustrates steric buttressing of the adamantanyl group.
Dimeric Capsules Formed by Tetra-CMPO Derivatives of (Thia)Calix[4]arenes
2010
Thiacalix[4]arene 2, calix[4]arene 3 a and its tetraether fixed in the cone conformation 3 b form homo- and heterodimeric capsules in apolar solvents, which are held together by a seam of NH⋅⋅⋅O=P hydrogen bonds between carbamoylmethyl phospine oxide functions attached to their wide rim. Their internal volume of ∼370 A3 requires the inclusion of a suitable guest. Although neutral molecules such as adamantane (derivatives) or tetraethylammonium cations form kinetically stable complexes (1H- and 31P-time scale), the included solvent is rapidly exchanged. The internal mobility of the included tetraethylammonium cation is distinctly higher (ΔG=42.5 and 49.7 kJ mol−1 for 3 a and 3 b) than that f…

New Microbe Killers : Self-Assembled Silver(I) Coordination Polymers Driven by a Cagelike Aminophosphine
2019
New Ag(I) coordination polymers, formulated as [Ag(μ-PTAH)(NO3)2]n (1) and [Ag(μ-PTA)(NO2)]n (2), were self-assembled as light- and air-stable microcrystalline solids and fully characterized by NMR and IR spectroscopy, electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS(±), elemental analysis, powder (PXRD) and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Their crystal structures reveal resembling 1D metal-ligand chains that are driven by the 1,3,5-triaza-7-phospaadamantane (PTA) linkers and supported by terminal nitrate or nitrite ligands; these chains were classified within a 2C1 topological type. Additionally, the structure of 1 features a 1D!2D network extension through intermolecular hydrogen bonds…
Antimicrobial and antiproliferative activity of Athamanta sicula L. (Apiaceae).
2010
Background: Athamanta sicula L., a member of Apiaceae, is an annual perennial herb and it is known in Sicilian popular medicine with the name of “spaccapietre” (rock splitters), because fresh roots infusions are indicated as diuretic and used in the treatment of diseases of the urinary tract, and to dissolve kidney stones. Materials and Methods: Acetone extracts of leaves, flowers, and stems of A. sicula L. were investigated in vitro for antibacterial and cytotoxic activities. Antimicrobial activity was carried out against bacterial and fungal strains and antiproliferative activity against a group of human cancer cell lines (K-562, NCI-H460, and MCF-7). Results: All acetone extracts, apiol …
4-(2-Adamantyl)thiosemicarbazone
1984
Antiviral Agents, XXIV: 4-(2-Adamantyl)thiosemicarbazones Reactions of 4-(2-adamantyl)thiosemicarbazide (1) with the carbonyl compounds 2a-d yield the 4-(2-adamantyl)thiosemicarbazones 3a-d. The starting material 1 is accessible from 2-aminoadamantane (4) via 2-adamantyl isothiocyanate (5). Compound 5 and representatives of t…
