The Moderating Role of Intellectual Humility in the Adoption of ICT: A Study Across Life-Span
2018
Literature has shown age-related differences in the adoption process. In this way, it is very important to encourage the adoption of ICT by the elderly, in order to maintain their independence in daily life. However, some specific cognitive variables were not considered in theoretical models until a decade ago. One of the emerging fields in this area is the science of learnable intelligence, which investigates the role of thinking dispositions. The variable which we have focused on is intellectual humility. For this propose, a sample of 306 participants from 18 to 87 years was selected. Age was selected as a predictor variable. Intellectual humility was tested as a moderator between ageing …
The high five: Associations of the five positive factors with the big five and well-being
2017
The study of individual differences in positive characteristics has mainly focused on moral traits. The objectives of this research were to study individual differences in positive characteristics from the point of view of the layperson, including non-moral individual characteristics, and to generate a replicable model of positive factors. Three studies based on a lexical approach were conducted. The first study generated a corpus of words which resulted in a refined list of socially shared positive characteristics. The second study produced a five-factor model of positive characteristics: erudition, peace, cheerfulness, honesty, and tenacity. The third study confirmed the model with a diff…
A Qualitative Study Based on the Reading-life Histories of Future Teachers
2015
Abstract One of the tools that have been used in research on literary education is what are known as reading-life histories or the reading autobiography. In this paper we will offer an analysis and some reflections on the different ways these can be used, by drawing on a sample of histories collected from students training to be teachers since the implementation of the new university curricula within what is known as the European Bologna process. The findings from this analysis open up a range of possibilities in research and innovation in literary training. Based on their previous experiences and recollections as readers, such narratives provide us with important information not only about…
Maternal homework assistance and children's task-persistent behavior in elementary school
2018
Abstract The present study used a sample of 365 children to investigate the longitudinal associations between maternal homework assistance (i.e., help, monitoring, and autonomy granting) and children's task-persistent behavior in learning situations from grade 2 to grade 4 of elementary school. Also, the extent to which task-persistent behavior plays a role in the links between parental homework assistance and children's academic performance was examined. The results showed that the more autonomy granting mothers reported, the more task-persistent behavior children exhibited; and more task-persistent behavior children exhibited, the more autonomy their mothers granted. In contrast, the more…
Tips and tricks for flow cytometry-based analysis and counting of microparticles
2015
Submicron-sized extra-cellular vesicles generated by budding from the external cell membranes, microparticles (MPs) are important actors in transfusion as well as in other medical specialties. After briefly positioning their role in the characterization of labile blood products, this technically oriented chapter aims to review practical points that need to be considered when trying to use flow cytometry for the analysis, characterization and absolute counting of MP subsets. Subjects of active discussions relative to instrumentation will include the choice of the trigger parameter, possible standardization approaches requiring instrument quality-control, origin and control of non-specific ba…
Distrés psicológico en adolescentes víctimas de cyberbullying || Psychological distress among adolescents victims of cyberbullying
2017
Diagnostic and prognostic value of H-FABP in acute coronary syndrome: Still evidence to bring
2018
Abstract The assessment of chest pain patients presenting to the emergency area (EA) is still a clinical challenge, as the majority of patients are not diagnosed with acute coronary syndrome (ACS). New generation high sensitivity c-Tn (hs-cTn) assays have showed better performances compared to the standard c-Tn. However, hs-Tn still presents some limitations. Hence, novel, early biomarkers are needed in this setting. Among all, heart-type fatty acid binding protein (H-FABP) has been largely investigated. This article reviews the studies evaluating H-FABP performance in diagnosing acute myocardial infarction (AMI) and stratifying chest pain patients by risk. H-FABP optimal performances in AC…
Air pollution and airport apron workers: A neglected occupational setting in epidemiological research.
2020
Abstract Introduction Airport apron workers are occupationally exposed to jet exhaust and major concern is related to the exposure to ultrafine particles (UFP) from aircrafts. To date, little attention has been given to occupational exposures to aircraft-related UFP, although aircraft engines have high emissions of ultrafine particles, which are orders of magnitude higher than residential exposure. UFP could possibly contribute to the development of cancer, heart disease, mental illness, and respiratory symptoms. In addition to particulate matter, apron workers are exposed to other polluting substances associated with vehicles, aircraft exhaust or direct fuel emissions. Methods We performed…
