Influence of the Liquefied Starch Composition and pH on the Saccharification at the Obtaining of Maltose Syrup

1970

In this paper the influence of the composition of the liquefied starch and of pH on the quality of saccharification at the obtaining of maltose syrup is investigated. A large number of experiments (68) in various liquefaction conditions show that Dextrose Equivalent (DE) and the composition in hydrolysis products with Degree of Polymerisation higher as four (DP ≥4) in the liquefied starch have a strong influence on the saccharification products, mainly on the maltose content in the maltose syrups. The liquefied starch with DE lower as 25 has smaller amounts of DP ≥4 (40 to 60%), whereas the liquefied starch with DE between 25 and 27 has high amounts of DP ≥4 (60 to 80%). For the production …

Modelling of Starch Gelatinisation and Liquefaction with the Enzyme Liquozyme

2011

In this paper the influence of the enzyme Liquozyme Supra concentration (0.4-1.2 kg/t dry substance DS) and gelatinisation time (3-11 min.) on the liquefied starch quality is investigated. The composition in sugars with different Degrees of Polymerisation (DP) as DP1 (glucose), DP2 (maltose), DP3 (maltotriose), DP4 (maltotetrose) and oligosaccharides with DP≥5 is analysed by using HPLC with RI detector. The products obtained have different DP, the main components being oligosaccharides with DP≥5, followed by small amount of DP3+DP4 and much smaller concentrations of DP1; no DP2 is produced by this enzyme. Two quality criteria: the percent of oligosaccharides with DP≥5 and the percent of DP1…

5-Aminosalicylsäure-assoziierte Pankreatitis

2008

Acute pancreatitis with severe belt-like upper abdominal pain developed within 1-4 weeks of starting medication in three patients (29-year-old man with ulcerative colitis; 43-year-old woman and 22-year-old woman with Crohn's disease) treated, for the first time, with 5-aminosalicylic acid (mesalazine), 500 mg three times daily. Concentrations of lipase initially were 545, 1182 and 3000 U/l, and of amylase 243, 449 and 129 U/l, respectively. Symptoms receded within a few hours after the drug had been discontinued, enzyme levels returning to normal in the course of the next 2-3 weeks. On repeating the drug in two of the patients, in lower dosage, the pancreatitis recurred within a few days. T…

Retarded Elimination of a High-Molecular Enzyme-Substrate-Complex after Hydroxyethyl-Starch-Infusion

1978

During a pharmacokinetic study with hydroxyethyl starch we found, that this plasma substitute induces a regular increase of serum amylase. In 54 patients after infusion of 500 ml 6% hydroxyethyl starch (HES) an increase of serum amylase was observed, which in 51 cases exceeded the upper limit of normal (190 U/l). In most cases serum amylase reached values twice as high as the basal value. Renal function influenced duration of increased serum amylase values, but did not influence maximum increases (201 ±15 U/l; mean ± SEM). In patients with advanced renal failure (GFR = 2–10 ml/min) serum amylase was still markedly elevated after 72 hours (298 ± U/l; mean ± SEM). In patients with normal rena…

Technological and molecular diversity of Lactobacillus plantarum strains isolated from naturally fermented sourdoughs.

2004

Thirty Lactobacillus (L.) plantarum strains, isolated from sourdough, were identified by biochemical tests as well as 16S rDNA sequencing and differentiated on the basis of technological properties, such as amylase, protease, phytase and antirope activities. These properties were shown to be widely differing among the strains, indicating a significant technological diversity. Genetic differentiation was achieved by restriction endonuclease analysis-pulsed field gel electrophoresis (REA-PFGE) that allowed the L. plantarum strains to be divided into 10 different genomic groups. Moreover, 32 different starters were employed in dough making experiments; each starter consisted of a single strain…

Effects of Different Chair-Based Exercises on Salivary Biomarkers and Functional Autonomy in Institutionalized Older Women

2019

The aim of this study was to test the effects of chair-based exercise programs on salivary stress hormones, physical fitness, and functional autonomy of institutionalized older women. In total, 47 participants (80 ± 8.04 years old) were recruited and allocated into three groups: chair-based aerobic exercises (CAE, n = 19), chair-based elastic-band strength exercises (CSE, n = 15), and a control group (CG, n = 13). A 14-week exercise intervention was done for the CAE and CSE groups, two times per week, in no consecutive days. Members of the CG did not participate in any type of exercise but kept their regular lifestyle. Fear of falling, autonomy, physical fitness, salivary cortisol, and alpha…

LC-ESI/HRMS analysis of glucosinolates, oxylipins and phenols in Italian rocket salad (Diplotaxis erucoides subsp. erucoides (L.) DC.) and evaluation…

2021

BACKGROUND: This study investigated the chemical profile and biological activity of Diplotaxis erucoides subsp. erucoides (L.) DC. (Brassicaceae) collected in Sicily (Italy). RESULTS: Liquid chromatography coupled with electrospray ionization and high-resolution mass spectrometry (LC-ESI/HRMS) analysis of the ethanol extract revealed the presence of 42 compounds – glucosinolates, hydroxycinnamic acids, flavonoids, and oxylipins. The extract was tested for its antioxidant activity using 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), 2,2′-azinobis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic) acid (ABTS), ferric reducing ability power (FRAP), and β-carotene bleaching tests. Promising protection from lipid peroxi…

A preliminary study to assess the impact of maternal age on stress-related variables in healthy nulliparous women

2017

Purpose: Childbearing age has progressively increased in industrialized countries. The impact of this delay on motherhood, however, requires further research. Methods: The study sample included a prospective cohort of healthy nulliparous pregnant women aged between 18 and 40 years (n = 148) assessed at 38 weeks gestation (Time#1, T1), 48 h after birth (Time#2, T2), and 3 months after birth (Time#3, T3). The effect of age on psychological, biological, and social variables was evaluated. Maternal psychological symptoms in terms of depression and anxiety were assessed at T1-T3; and parenting stress at T3. Stress biomarkers (cortisol, alpha-amylase) were determined in mothers at T1-T3. Question…
