Anticancer study of heterobimetallic platinum(II)-ruthenium(II) and platinum(II)-rhodium(III) complexes with bridging dithiooxamide ligand
2019
Abstract Three heterobimetallic platinum (II)/ruthenium (II) and platinum (II)/rhodium (III) complexes, A: Pt{S–S2C2(NR)2H}{μ-S2C2(NR)2}-[Ru (p-cymene)Cl], R = isoamyl; B: Pt{S–S2C2(NR)2H}{μ-S2C2(NR)2}[Rh (phpy)2], R = isoamyl; C: [Pt{S–S2C2(NR)2H}{μ-S2C2(NR)2}-[Rh(C5Me5)Cl]], R = benzyl, were prepared from mononuclear complexes 1 and 2, 1: [Pt (H-isoamyl2DTO)2]; 2: [Pt (H-benzyl2DTO)2], DTO = dithiooxamide, by reaction of 1 or 2 with the corresponding chlorido-bridged dimers, [Rh(C5Me5)Cl (μ-Cl)]2, [Ru (p-cymene)Cl (μ-Cl)]2 or [Rh (phpy)2 (μ-Cl)]2, and then evaluated as anticancer agents for the inhibition of the three proteolytic activities of human 20S proteasome, one of the main target …
Synthesis of substituted carbamo(dithioperoxo)thioates as potential BCA2-inhibitory anticancer agents
2015
A new, simple, one-step synthetic route to carbamo(dithioperoxo)thioates from commercially available starting materials is described. The key step of this new synthetic approach involves the tetrabromomethane-promoted reaction between secondary amines, carbon disulfide and alkyl thiols under basic conditions at room temperature. New compounds from this series selected for anticancer screening showed selective sub-micromolar activity within BCA2-expressing human breast cancer cell lines.
Diversity of Pharmacological Properties in Chinese and European Medicinal Plants: Cytotoxicity, Antiviral and Antitrypanosomal Screening of 82 Herbal…
2011
In an extensive screening, the antiviral, antitrypanosomal and anticancer properties of extracts from 82 plants used in traditional Chinese medicine and European phytomedicine were determined. Several promising plants that were highly effective against hepatitis B virus (HBV), bovine viral diarrhoea virus (BVDV)—a flavivirus used here as a surrogate in vitro model of hepatitis C virus, trypanosomes (Trypanosoma brucei brucei) and several cancer cell lines were identified. Six aqueous extracts from Celosia cristata, Ophioglossum vulgatum, Houttuynia cordata, Selaginella tamariscina, Alpinia galanga and Alpinia oxyphylla showed significant antiviral effects against BVDV without toxic effects …
SYNTHESIS AND CHARACTERIZATION OF POSITIVELY CHARGED FUNCTIONALIZED HALLOYSITE/CURCUMIN SYSTEMS AND EVALUATION OF THEIR ANTICANCER ACTIVITY
2014
Phenolic compound originated from one of the main class of secondary metabolites, as curcumin and its derivatives have been studied and their biological and pharmacological activities have been evaluated, too [1,2]. Unfortunately, curcumin exhibits poor bioavailability after oral or topic administration [3]. Therefore a carefully designed carrier could significantly facilitate curcumin delivery and broaden the range of its possible pharmaceutical applications. Halloysite was found to be a viable and inexpensive nanoscale container for the encapsulation of biological active molecules [4]. In this communication we report data about a new potential curcumin carrier based on positively charged …

Incorporation of dynamic boronate links and Ag nanoparticles into PVA hydrogels for pH-Regulated and prolonged release of methotrexate
2021
Abstract In this study, pH-responsive hydrogels based on PVA-boronate crosslinks were prepared via a simple route and used for controlled and targeted delivery of anticancer drug methotrexate. A double network (DN) hydrogel composed of didiol-boronate/PVA complex as the first network and PVA crystallites generated by a freeze-thaw process as the second one was developed. The swelling of PVA-boronate DN hydrogels demonstrated high sensitivity to multiple stimuli including the pH, temperature, and ionic strength of the media thanks to the dynamic boronate links in the first network. Moreover, unlike previously reported hydrogels based on the boronate linkages, the new DN hydrogels preserved t…
Acetic Acid Mediated for One-Pot Synthesis of Novel Pyrazolyl s-Triazine Derivatives for the Targeted Therapy of Triple-Negative Breast Tumor Cells (…
2022
Here, we described the synthesis of novel pyrazole-s-triazine derivatives via an easy one-pot procedure for the reaction of β-dicarbonyl compounds (ethylacetoacetate, 5,5-dimethyl-1,3-cyclohexadione or 1,3-cyclohexadionone) with N,N-dimethylformamide dimethylacetal, followed by addition of 2-hydrazinyl-4,6-disubstituted-s-triazine either in ethanol-acetic acid or neat acetic acid to afford a novel pyrazole and pyrazole-fused cycloalkanone systems. The synthetic protocol proved to be efficient, with a shorter reaction time and high chemical yield with broad substrates. The new pyrazolyl-s-triazine derivatives were tested against the following cell lines: MCF-7 (breast cancer); MDA-MB-231 (tr…
Accurate Triage of Oncological Patients for Safely Continuing Cancer Therapy During the SARS-CoV-2 Pandemic
2021
ObjectiveTo evaluate the efficacy of clinical triage of oncological patients for safe continuation of cancer therapy implemented during the first SARS-CoV-2 outbreak.MethodsBetween 25 February and 21 April 2020, patients attending the Medical Oncology Unit, Spedali Civili Hospital, Brescia (Italy) for cancer therapy underwent triage to identify those with no signs and symptoms suspicious for SARS-CoV-2 infection in which antineoplastic treatment could be continued as scheduled. Triage questions investigated common symptoms (e.g., fever, cough, dyspnea, anosmia, dysgeusia, headache, nasal congestion, conjunctival congestion, sore throat, diarrhea, nausea and vomiting); body temperature and p…
