On the use of SLS tools in sheet metal stamping

2003

Abstract A few rapid tooling technologies have been recently proposed and among them Selective Laser Sintering is probably one of the most relevant and promising. In the paper, the authors report some results of a wide experimental research on the application of SLS tools in sheet metal forming. A wear test was earned out to investigate the progressive degradation of laser-sintered materials in comparison with traditional cold-work steels. In particular SLS tools were utilized in a sheet metal stamping process of S-shaped parts: their performances (in terms of tool wear and dimensional quality of the stamped part) were compared with the ones of traditional tools.

Different mechanisms underlie implicit visual statistical learning in honey bees and humans

2020

International audience; The ability of developing complex internal representations of the environment is considered a crucial antecedent to the emergence of humans’ higher cognitive functions. Yet it is an open question whether there is any fundamental difference in how humans and other good visual learner species naturally encode aspects of novel visual scenes. Using the same modified visual statistical learning paradigm and multielement stimuli, we investigated how human adults and honey bees ( Apis mellifera ) encode spontaneously, without dedicated training, various statistical properties of novel visual scenes. We found that, similarly to humans, honey bees automatically develop a comp…

Does training in syllable recognition improve reading speed? A computer-based trial with poor readers from second and third grade.

2013

Repeated reading of infrequent syllables has been shown to increase reading speed at the word level in a transparent orthography. This study confirms these results with a computer-based training method and extends them by comparing the training effects of short syllables and long frequent and infrequent syllables, controlling for rapid automatized naming. Our results, based on a sample of 150 poor readers of Finnish, showed clear gains in reading speed regarding all trained syllables, but a transfer effect to the word level was evident only in the case of long infrequent syllables. Rapid automatized naming was associated with initial reading speed, but not with the training effect. peerRevi…

SOCIAL CAPITAL AND BANK PERFORMANCE: AN INTERNATIONAL COMPARISON FOR OECD COUNTRIES

2008

Over the last few years the literature on social capital and bank efficiency analysis has expanded rapidly. We merge them by analysing how social capital affects bank efficiency in OECD countries. We use activity analysis techniques to measure efficiency, and social capital, which is related to the concept of generalized trust, is considered an environmental variable. Results suggest that the effect of social capital is more relevant for those financial institutions operating in low-social-capital environments. In these cases, inefficiencies are biased upwards, and controlling for social capital enables these banks to move up in the efficiency rankings.

INTELLECTUAL CAPITAL - KEY FACTOR IN ORGANIZATION DEVELOPMENT

2019

Intellectual Capital (IC) is an important component of an organization's capital, being the primary resource of development and also of value creation in almost all sectors of economic life. In order to be used and explored with maximum efficiency, intellectual capital must be an integral part of the organization's strategic development plan. In the literature, the concept of intellectual capital was accepted, in fact designating the triumph of economic reasons. The emergence and development of this concept increasingly emphasizes the correlation with the technological progress and the continuous development. The purpose of this paper is to highlight the value and importance of intellectual…

La production et valorisation des compétences sur le marché du travail : des approches néo-classiques à l'économie des conventions

2003

This research starts from human capital theory to study the production and valorization of competences in the labor market. Using the potentials and constraints of the neo-classical approach, the incorporation of other areas of economic science as well as other social sciences contributions are proposed. We believe that the key notions economics of education - human capital and wages, are necessary but they are inadequate to explain the level of individual competence or his level of remuneration. We propose a coherent integration of the theoretical and methodological tools of economics of education as well as of the economics of conventions and economics of human resources. And it includes …

2016

Differences of achievement in school, traditionally studied by Education researchers, can be analyzed in the light of skills and especially social skills. This scientific field is under construction but social skills still become a "must" for actors of the school system and for Educational Sciences. Through a multidisciplinary approach, this thesis proposes to question the link between social skills and academic achievement of students, taking into account factors related to their various socialization frameworks (family, school, extra-curricular). A reliable analytic tool of social skills (in a sample of 855 students from 7 to 12 years) allows to understand first of all, that inter and int…

L'utilisation du médiateur ludique pour favoriser le développement des compétences non-académiques en formation supérieure

2015

The competency-based curriculum is being more and more used in France, and leads to pedagogical changes. This raises questions about what to teach, and how to teach. More specifically, the characteristics of thegeneration Y, including the fact that this generation considers education as a consumption value, being engaged only if they get some direct personal benefits, leads to invest some methods of innovative pedagogy, in order to get students’ interest and engagement. At the same time, literature about soft skills, show the importance of those skills for success, encouraging to more include soft skills in education. The research presented in this thesis, aims to assess how a games-based a…
