Artificial Decision Maker Driven by PSO : An Approach for Testing Reference Point Based Interactive Methods

2018

Over the years, many interactive multiobjective optimization methods based on a reference point have been proposed. With a reference point, the decision maker indicates desirable objective function values to iteratively direct the solution process. However, when analyzing the performance of these methods, a critical issue is how to systematically involve decision makers. A recent approach to this problem is to replace a decision maker with an artificial one to be able to systematically evaluate and compare reference point based interactive methods in controlled experiments. In this study, a new artificial decision maker is proposed, which reuses the dynamics of particle swarm optimization f…

Bone Fusion in Normal and Pathological Development is Constrained by the Network Architecture of the Human Skull

2016

The premature fusion of cranial bones, craniosynostosis, affects the correct development of the skull producing morphological malformations in newborns. To assess the susceptibility of each craniofacial articulation to close prematurely, we used a network model of the skull to quantify the link reliability (an index based on stochastic block modeling and Bayesian inference) of each articulation. We show that, of the 93 human skull articulations at birth, the few articulations that are associated with nonsyndromic craniosynostosis conditions have statistically significant lower reliability scores than the others. In a similar way, articulations that close during the normal postnatal developm…

Reframing belonging : affective localism and the early fiction of Reino Rinne

2017

ABSTRACTThe early fiction of a novelist and journalist born in the north of Finland, Reino Rinne (1913–2002), is illustrative of the post-war interest in a redefinition of cultural belonging. The aim of this article is to offer a reading of Rinne’s works that throws light on the way they exemplify a post-war articulation of affective localism. What is especially characteristic of the affective localism produced in Rinne’s early fiction is the deployment of certain narrative elements, realism as an aesthetic regime, tropes of spatial belonging and historical myths that are endowed with affective charge. A comparison between Rinne's first novel Tunturit hymyilevat. Kuvaus Lapista 1900-luvun a…

El lado oscuro de la nación. ¿Se puede descolonizar la identidad española?

2019

Interacting with music mediation technology for hearing impaired - first tests with normal hearing subjects

2009

Interaction with embodied mediation technology for musical activities is a fairly young but intriguing research domain that requires building and testing of paradigms. In this paper an experimental framework is presented that has been used to test subject’s sense of embodiment in sound identification and creation. A preliminary experiment is described that is part of an ongoing series of studies set up to evaluate embodied mediation technology, test methodologies and interfaces for user-oriented approaches to embodied music cognition. Thirty-three users interacted with the embodied music interaction (EMI) tool that is prototype software implemented in-house for a real-time interactive music…

Re-Imagining the Border: Border Art as a Space of Critical Imagination and Creative Resistance

2014

Contemporary world is increasingly marked by borders, fences and walls, which run through the spaces we live in. Borders are the result of a composite articulation of material aspects, concerning their external realisation, and structures of imagination, symbolic constructs and conceptual formations that involve the border and make it meaningful. In this dynamic and mutable field, artistic practices and interventions can interrupt and alterate the logic of the border, opening up a space of resistance and critical imagination, where the transparent, immutable and essentialist representation of the border is constantly challenged. Works of artists such as Bajevic, Hatoum, Salcedo, Rosver and …
