Advances in organic and organic-inorganic hybrid polymeric supports for catalytic applications
2016
In this review, the most recent advances (2014–2016) on the synthesis of new polymer-supported catalysts are reported, focusing the attention on the synthetic strategies developed for their preparation. The polymer-supported catalysts examined will be organic-based polymers and organic-inorganic hybrids and will include, among others, polystyrenes, poly-ionic liquids, chiral ionic polymers, dendrimers, carbon nanotubes, as well as silica and halloysite-based catalysts. Selected examples will show the synthesis and application in the field of organocatalysis and metal-based catalysis both for non-asymmetric and asymmetric transformations.
Enantioselective Synthesis of 4-Substituted Dihydrocoumarins through a Zinc Bis(hydroxyamide)-Catalyzed Conjugate Addition of Terminal Alkynes
2013
A new enantioselective catalyst for the conjugate addition of terminal alkynes has been developed. Terminal alkynes react with 3-alkoxycarbonylcoumarins in the presence of diethylzinc and bis(hydroxyamide) ligands to give chiral non-racemic dihydrocoumarins substituted with an alkynyl group on the C-4 position with good yields and enantiomeric excesses up to 95%.
Water in Organocatalytic Reactions
2013
Water is a green solvent: it is cheap, safe and environmentally friendly compared with organic solvents. Pfizer Corp. has defined a solvent guide that encourages the use of preferred solvents, for example, water or ethyl acetate, over usable solvents, for example, dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), and undesirable solvents, for example, dimethylformamide (DMF) [1]. However, chemical reactions carried out in or on water are not necessarily green reactions. Indeed, if we consider a reaction involving two species (A and B) and a product (C), the requirement for an ideal situation is when the product C has zero solubility and is quantitatively recovered by filtration, leaving no starting compounds A an…
Organocatalytic Enantioselective Alkylation of Pyrazol-3-ones with Isatin-Derived Ketimines: Stereocontrolled Construction of Vicinal Tetrasubstitute…
2016
A quinine-derived thiourea catalysed the enantioselective addition of 4-substituted pyrazolones to isatin-derived ketimines, providing a variety of aminooxindole-pyrazolone adducts containing congested vicinal tetrasubstituted stereocentres with excellent outcomes (up to 98% yield, >20:1 dr and 98% ee).
Synthesis of ortho-fonctionnalized arylphosphines and their applications
2020
This thesis reports with the synthesis of ortho-functionnalized phosphines bearing phosphonium and 1,2,3-triazole moieties. The synthesis of phosphines-phosphoniums, using as key-step Phospha-Fries rearrangement and Appel reaction is described. Eight new phosphines- phosphoniums, bearing aryl, alkyl or ferrocenyl fragments on the phosphonium part, have been prepared with overall yields reaching 48%. These phosphines- phosphoniums have been used in the preparation of gold (I) complexes which have been characterized using spectroscopic methods and X ray diffraction. Both gold (I) complexes and phosphines-phosphoniums have been studied in biology and these compounds turned out to be cytotoxic i…
Catalytic Enantioselective Conjugate Alkynylation of α,β-Unsaturated 1,1,1-Trifluoromethyl Ketones with Terminal Alkynes.
2016
The first catalytic enantioselective conjugate alkynylation of α,β-unsaturated 1,1,1-trifluoromethyl ketones has been carried out. Terminal alkynes and 1,3-diynes were treated with trifluoromethyl ketones in the presence of a low catalytic load of a CuI-MeOBIPHEP complex (2.5 mol %) and triethylamine (10 mol %) to give the corresponding trifluoromethyl ketones bearing a propargylic stereogenic center at the β position with good yields and excellent enantiomeric excesses in most of the cases. No 1,2-addition products were formed under the reaction conditions. The procedure showed broad substrate scope for alkyne, diyne, and enone. A rationale for the observed stereochemistry has been provide…
Organocatalytic Enantioselective Friedel-Crafts Alkylation of 1-Naphthol Derivatives and Activated Phenols with Ethyl Trifluoropyruvate
2015
An organocatalytic enantioselective Friedel–Crafts alkylation of a series of substituted 1- naphthol derivatives and activated phenols with ethyl trifluoropyruvate, catalyzed by a quinine-derived squaramide, is presented. Good yields and high to excellent enantioselectivities of the Friedel– Crafts alkylation products were obtained.
Exploiting the Chiral Ligands of Bis(imidazolinyl)- and Bis(oxazolinyl)thiophenes : Synthesis and Application in Cu-Catalyzed Friedel–Crafts Asymmetr…
2021
Five new C2-symmetric chiral ligands of 2,5-bis(imidazolinyl)thiophene (L1–L3) and 2,5-bis(oxazolinyl)thiophene (L4 and L5) were synthesized from thiophene-2,5-dicarboxylic acid (1) with enantiopure amino alcohols (4a–c) in excellent optical purity and chemical yield. The utility of these new chiral ligands for Friedel–Crafts asymmetric alkylation was explored. Subsequently, the optimized tridentate ligand L5 and Cu(OTf)2 catalyst (15 mol%) in toluene for 48 h promoted Friedel–Crafts asymmetric alkylation in moderate to good yields (up to 76%) and with good enantioselectivity (up to 81% ee). The bis(oxazolinyl)thiophene ligands were more potent than bis(imidazolinyl)thiophene analogues for …
A Catalyst Designed for the Enantioselective Construction of Methyl- and Alkyl-Substituted Tertiary Stereocenters
2015
Tertiary methyl-substituted stereocenters are present in numerous biologically active natural products. Reported herein is a catalytic enantioselective method for accessing these chiral building blocks using the Mukaiyama-Michael reaction between silyl ketene thioacetals and acrolein. To enable remote enantioface control on the nucleophile, a new iminium catalyst, optimized by three-parameter tuning and by identifying substituent effects on enantioselectivity, was designed. The catalytic process allows rapid access to chiral thioesters, amides, aldehydes, and ketones bearing an α-methyl stereocenter with excellent enantioselectivities, and allowed rapid access to the C4-C13 segment of (-)-b…
Relay Catalysis: Enantioselective Synthesis of Cyclic Benzo-Fused Homoallylic Alcohols by Chiral BrOnsted Acid-Catalyzed Allylboration/Ring Closing M…
2013
Six- and seven-membered benzo-fused cyclic homoallylic alcohols can be readily synthesized by a tandem chiral BrOnsted acid-catalyzed allyl (crotyl)boration/ring closing metathesis sequence performed under orthogonal relay catalysis conditions. Excellent enantio- and diastereoselectivities are obtained in most of the cases. In addition, the parent crotylboration/RCM process is also described. The required substrates, ortho-vinylbenzaldehydes, are readily available in one step from commercially available starting materials. Both catalysts and reactants are also available from commercial suppliers. The reaction shows broad functional group compatibility and is also suitable for heteroaromatic…
