Hereditary Angioedema Associated with Subacute Cutaneous Lupus Erythematosus

The increased occurrence of various autoimmune diseases has recently been reported in patients with hereditary angioedema (HAE). This is especially the case in different forms of lupus erythematosus, but also other autoimmune diseases. We report a 24-year-old female patient who 10 years ago developed the clinical symptoms of HAE which occurred at the same time as subacute cutaneous lupus erythematosus. The results of both immunological investigations and histocompatibility antigen genotyping gave no clear insight into the causal interrelationship of both diseases.

The role of thrombophilia and thyroid autoimmunity in unexplained infertility (UI), implantation failure (IF) and recurrent spontaneous abortion (RSA) is controversial and poorly understood.From March, 2004 to January, 2007, 119 women were prospectively included: 32 oocyte donors, 31 patients with UI, 26 with IF and 30 with RSA. Subclinical hypothyroidism resulting from autoimmune thyroiditis in female patients with endogenous depression.

Thyroid function and presence of thyroid autoantibodies were assessed in a group of 75 consecutive female patients with mood disturbances and in a group of 38 healthy women of similar age recruited as controls. Nine patients suffered from major (endogenous) depression and 66 from minor (neurotic) depression. The individual patients had normal values of circulating thyroid hormones. Possible link between Hashimoto's thyroiditis and oral lichen planus: a novel association found

Objectives: Hashimoto's thyroiditis as well as lichen planus has been associated to a number of disorders, generally of auto-immune origin. A novel possible association between oral lichen planus (OLP) and Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT) is here proposed on the basis of a cross-sectional survey. Materials and methods: One hundred and five unrelated OLP patients were considered. Immunoblotting as a confirmatory test for antimitochondrial antibodies in primary biliary cirrhosis.

Primary biliary cirrhosis is characterised by the presence of antimitochondrial antibodies which are directed against components of mitochondrial dehydrogenase complexes. The specificity of antimitochondrial antibodies for primary biliary cirrhosis as detected by immunoblotting was investigated. Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease characterized by the emergence of autoreactive T cells. Humans and mice with SLE have reduced numbers of CD1d-restricted invariant natural killer T (iNKT) cells, suggesting a key role for these cells in its immunopathogenesis. Human asialoglycoprotein receptor as an autoantigen in chronic hepatitis.

ASGPR may play a role in the pathogenesis of autoimmune chronic liver diseases. Several lines of evidence support this hypothesis. Antibodies to rabbit ASGPR could be found in various inflammatory liver diseases. In contrast, ASGPR preparations derived from human liver (h-ASGPR) were recognized predominantly by sera from patients with ai-CAH. Characterization of liver cytokeratin as a major target antigen of anti-SLA antibodies.

Abstract Anti-SLA antibodies characterize a newly defined subgroup of patients with autoimmune chronic active hepatitis. The aim of the present study was the immunochemical characterization of the target antigen(s) of anti-SLA antibodies. Anti-SLA-positive sera were found to contain high titres of anti-cytokeratin antibodies. In immunoblotting analyses with 100 000 × g supernatants of human liver homogenates (S-100) these sera recognized various proteins with a molecular mass of 40–60 kDa.
