Innovation practices in cultural organisations: Implications for innovation policy

2016

This paper explores the innovation practices in a distinctive and vital part of the growing tourism industry, that of cultural organisations. These organisations have received limited attention from previous in-depth qualitative research on innovation practices. The investigation in this paper is based on in-depth interviews with key-employees in 27 cultural organisations. The findings suggest that the innovation practices when cultural organisations carry out incremental and liminal innovation activities differ from the practices used during more radical innovation activities. Sources of incremental and liminal innovations are often found to be stakeholders external to the organisation, su…

Psychometric evaluation of the Finnish version of the impact on participation and autonomy questionnaire in persons with multiple sclerosis

2017

Objective: The objective of this study was to evaluate the psychometric properties of the impact on participation and autonomy (IPA) questionnaire. The Finnish version of IPA (IPAFin) was translated into Finnish using the protocol for linguistic validation for patient-reported outcomes instruments. Methods: A total of 194 persons with multiple sclerosis (MS) (mean age 50 years SD 9, 72% female) with moderate to severe disability participated in this study. A confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was used to confirm the four factor structure of the IPAFin. The work and educational opportunities domain was excluded from analysis, because it was only applicable to 51 persons. Internal consistency…

Teacher, peer and parent autonomy support in physical education and leisure-time physical activity: A trans-contextual model of motivation in four na…

2009

An extended trans-contextual model of motivation for health-related physical activity was tested in samples from four nations. The model proposes a motivational sequence in which perceived autonomy support from teachers in a physical education (PE) context and from peers and parents in a leisure-time physical activity context predict autonomous motivation, intentions and physical activity behaviour in a leisure-time context. A three-wave prospective correlational design was employed. High-school pupils from Britain, Estonia, Finland and Hungary completed measures of perceived autonomy support from PE teachers, autonomous motivation in both contexts, perceived autonomy support from peers and…

La activación de la inmigración

2020

Using Focus Group in the Development of UNIPA Emotional Autonomy Inventory

2016

Adolescents' Emotional Autonomy from Parents A relevant tenet in developmental psychology is that adolescents are expected to achieve an autonomous functioning, independent from parents, to become reliant on their internal resources and responsible for their actions and decisions. Within this framework, emotional autonomy reflects the affective side of the largest process by which a young person acquires a more mature identity. It emerges when adolescents are capable to abandon dependence on parents and to individuate from them. Moreover, emotional autonomy implies a shift towards a less idealized conception of parental figures, the development of a more complex consideration of them as peo…

2019

The so-called transition to the digital paradigm is eroding the autonomy of the cultural field achieved during the XIX and XX Centuries, subjugating them to economic and technological dynamics. However, the hegemonic discourse tends to interpret this as an overall positive process for the creative domain, focusing on the increase in information resource and creativity tool availability. However, an analysis of the theories and concepts of the sociology of culture reveals a more ambivalent balance. While the notion of authorship and creation can be interpreted from a more cooperative and relativistic view it is arguable whether this concept can be eliminated altogether. Also, although cultur…

A Valencian-style Coalition Government: el Botànic

2020

Coalition governments are common in the European political landscape in various tiers ofgovernment. However, such coalitions were an exception in the history of the Valencian Autonomy until 2015, which marked a new stage with the so-called El Botànic governments. Which factors explain this change in the Valencian political system? What are the features of such coalition governments? Can this model be applied to other political systems? This paper addresses these and other issues. First, it looks at what led to coalition governments in both 2015 and 2019. Second, it studies the model of coalition government. The hypothesis tested is this: El Botànic is a coalition government whose success in…

The turbulence of images: On imagery, media and ethnographic discourse

1997

As the anthropological theory of politeness has put it, people have universally two kinds of social want. They wish to be close to others, liked and accepted, but they also want some distance, freedom from imposition and respect of mutual difference. These wants, which one may also call basic human rights, are however often violated, and images play an important role in this. Images are ultimately generated in the human mind and may find verbal as well as written and pictorial representation. Tyler [1978] has proposed a typology of mental images based on criteria of conscious control, completeness, abstraction, media and autonomy. These criteria also prove useful when probing into prototypi…

« Autonomy in the Dock: Oscar Wilde’s first trial »

2014

The 1895 Wilde trials are usually seen as either the trial of non-normative sexualities or as enabling a definition of…
