Atomic layer deposition of Ti-Nb-O thin films onto electrospun fibers for fibrous and tubular catalyst support structures

Here, the authors report on the preparation of core-shell carbon-ceramic fibrous as well as ceramic tubular catalyst supports utilizing electrospinning and atomic layer deposition (ALD). In this paper, ALD of Ti-Nb-O thin films using TiCl4, Nb(OEt)5, and H2O as precursors is demonstrated. According to the time-of-flight-elastic recoil detection analysis and Rutherford backscattering spectrometry, carbon and hydrogen impurities were relatively low, but depend on the pulsing ratio of the precursors. Influence of plastic deformation on the microstructure and corrosion behaviour of Ti–10Mo–4Zr and Ti–6Al–4V alloys in the Ringer’s solution at 37°C

Abstract The influence of plastic deformation on the microstructure and passivity of Ti–6Al–4V and Ti–10Mo–4Zr is studied. The content of titanium-based compounds in the passive film formed on the alloys increases under straining. In the region where necking occurs, the β-phase content drops in Ti–6Al–4V. The grain orientation spread increases with increasing strain. The quality index of EBSD maps is affected on Ti–10Mo–4Zr (dislocation structures along preferential orientations). The corrosion behaviour is investigated in the Ringer’s solution (37 °C). Results obtained in the anodic and cathodic domains are discussed considering changes described previously.

Mechanism of Heavy Element Retention in Hydrated Layers Formed on Leached Silicate Glasses

ABSTRACTWe have investigated the relationship between hydrated layer formation during aqueous corrosion of silicates and retention of heavy elements (Fe, REE, actinides). Our approach is based on the comparison of the dissolution behaviour of silicate glasses, silicate minerals implanted with increasing doses of lead ions (1×E+12 to 1×E+15 ions/cm2), sorption experiments on silica surfaces and direct precipitation of hydrosilicates. Porous inorganic–organic hybrid material by oxygen plasma treatment

In this paper, we present the pore formation on inorganic–organic hybrid material, ORMOCER©, by reactive ion etching. ORMOCERs are composed of inorganic backbone where organic side groups are attached by cross-linking. Etching of ORMOCER in oxygen plasma generates porous materials with different pore sizes depending on the etching parameters. In addition to planar films, this pore formation process is applicable to micro and nanostructures. Strain mapping near a triple junction in strained Ni-based alloy using EBSD and biaxial nanogauges

A key element for analyzing the crack initiation in strained polycrystalline alloys is the local quantification of the surface strain distribution according to the grain texture. Using electron backscattered diffraction, the local microstructure was determined to both localize a triple junction and deduce the local Schmid factors. Kernel average misorientation (KAM) was also used to map the areas of defect concentration. The maximum principal strain and the in-plane shear strain were quantified using the biaxial nanogauge. Total-scattering pair-distribution function of organic material from powder electron diffraction data.

AbstractThis paper shows that pair-distribution function (PDF) analyses can be carried out on organic and organometallic compounds from powder electron diffraction data. Different experimental setups are demonstrated, including selected area electron diffraction and nanodiffraction in transmission electron microscopy or nanodiffraction in scanning transmission electron microscopy modes. The methods were demonstrated on organometallic complexes (chlorinated and unchlorinated copper phthalocyanine) and on purely organic compounds (quinacridone). Structure characterization of hard materials by precession electron diffraction and automatic diffraction tomography: 6H-SiC semiconductor and Ni1+xT…

Using a combination of automated diffraction tomography and precession electron diffraction techniques, quasi-kinematical electron diffraction data sets were collected from intermetallic Ni1+xTe1 embedded nanodomains and ion-thinned specimens of 6H–SiC semiconductor. Cell parameters and space groups were found automatically from the reconstructed 3D diffraction volume. The extracted intensities were used for fast ab initio structure determination by direct methods.
