Updates to Finnish aphyllophoroid funga (Basidiomycota):new species and range extensions

Abstract The knowledge of Finnish aphyllophoroid funga has increased substantially in recent years. In this article we present six species new to Finland: Cristinia (cf.) rhenana Grosse-Brauckm., Hyphodontiella hauerslevii K.H. Larss. & Hjortstam, Leptosporomyces montanus (Jülich) Ginns & M.N.L Lefebvre, Osteina obducta (Berk.) Donk, Sebacina helvelloides (Schwein.) Burt, and Tulasnella brinkmannii sensu lato Bres. Fungal Assemblages Associated with Roots of Halophytic and Non-halophytic Plant Species Vary Differentially Along a Salinity Gradient

Structure of fungal communities is known to be influenced by host plants and environmental conditions. However, in most cases, the dynamics of these variation patterns are poorly understood. In this work, we compared richness, diversity, and composition between assemblages of endophytic and rhizospheric fungi associated to roots of two plants with different lifestyles: the halophyte Inula crithmoides and the non-halophyte I. viscosa (syn. Dittrichia viscosa L.), along a spatially short salinity gradient. An adventive Panaeolus antillarum in Poland (Basidiomycota, Agaricales) with notes on its taxonomy, geographical distribution, and ecology

Abstract Coprophilous fungus, Panaeolus antillarum rarely recorded in Europe, is reported here for the first time from the Augustow Plane, north-eastern Poland. This thermophilic species was found outdoors in August on horse dung mixed with straw. A chemical analysis did not confirm the presence of the psychoactive alkaloids in collected material. A complete description and illustration of the species based on Polish specimens are presented and notes on its taxonomy, ecology, world distribution and comparison with similar taxa — P. semiovatus var. semiovatus, P. semiovatus var. phalaenarum, and others are also provided.

Anti-phytopathogen terpenoid glycosides from the root bark of Chytranthus macrobotrys and Radlkofera calodendron

Abstract Chytranthus macrobotrys and Radlkofera calodendron are two Sapindaceae characterized by a lack of phytochemical data. Both root barks from the two Sapindaceae species were processed by ethanol extraction followed by the isolation of their primary constituents by liquid chromatography. This process yielded four previously undescribed terpenoid glycosides together with eight known analogues. Extracts and isolated compounds from C. macrobotrys and R. calodendron were then screened for antimicrobial activity against fifteen phytopathogens. Hirsutane-Type Sesquiterpenes with Uncommon Modifications from Three Basidiomycetes

From three basidiomycetes, Xeromphalina sp., Stereum sp., and Pleurocybella porrigens, six triquinane sesquiterpenes with unprecendented modifications and a rearranged sesquiterpene related to coriolin C have been isolated. Metabarcoding Analysis of Fungal Diversity in the Phyllosphere and Carposphere of Olive (Olea europaea)

The fungal diversity associated with leaves, flowers and fruits of olive (Olea europaea) was investigated in different phenological stages (May, June, October and December) using an implemented metabarcoding approach. It consisted of the 454 pyrosequencing of the fungal ITS2 region and the subsequent phylogenetic analysis of relevant genera along with validated reference sequences. Most sequences were identified up to the species level or were associated with a restricted number of related taxa enabling supported speculations regarding their biological role. Two novel yeast species were isolated from the guts of two different termite species. A new member of the genus Sugiyamaella was isolated from the hindgut and nest material of the lower Australian termite Mastotermes darwiniensis. The second novel yeast species, isolated from the higher termite Odontotermes obesus, was identified as a member of the genus Papiliotrema. Both yeast species were able to hydrolyse xylan, methylumbelliferyl β-xylobiose and methylumbelliferyl β-xylotriose. Biodiversity of wood-decay fungi in Italy

Abstract Current knowledge about Italian wood-decay fungi (Basidiomycota and Ascomycota) is surveyed: 1582 taxa belonging to Ascomycota (341) and Basidiomycota (1241) have been reported, including 23 species new to science of Basidiomycota described from Italy within the last five years. Evaluating diversity of wood-decay fungi can provide a more accurate estimation of species richness for fungi which are an important functional component of ecosystems. Aphyllophoroid and Ascomycota species play an important role in habitat conservation and management. Sardinia, Sicily, the Alps and the Apennines are “hot spots” for wood-decay Basidiomycota in Italy.
