La mostra, che ha inizio il 29 settembre a Palermo per la durata di nove giorni, ha luogo in un posto d’elezione, opera d’arte a sua volta e recentemente restaurata, il Villino Florio all’Olivuzza progettato dallo stesso Basile per Vincenzo Florio; dimora che la nota famiglia di imprenditori aveva scelto quale luogo di rappresentanza per ostentare la “modernità” di Palermo che stava vivendo i suoi anni più gloriosi. Il lavoro si pone come obiettivo la ricostruzione congetturale del progetto dell’Eden Teatro Biondo (1912) a Palermo di Ernesto Basile (Palermo 1857–1932) a partire dai disegni originari. L’edifico propone una tipologia che fonde cinematografo (al piano terra) e teatro (al piano superiore). Pensato su un fronte di Piazza Verdi, non sarà realizzato per i costi ritenuti troppo elevati dai committenti. Le scansioni dei disegni originari (conservati presso il Fondo Basile del Dipartimento di Architettura dell’Università di Palermo) hanno consentito la vettorializzazione piana utilizzata per l’analisi e per la modellazione 3D. The circle of Willis is a very important vascular mechanism of protecting against cerebral ischemia, especially when circulation within the main arteries irrigating the brain is somehow impeded. As result of congenital malformation arising early in embryonic development, the fetal-type posterior circle of Willis remains as such during the rest of one's life. Consequently, the posterior cerebral artery (PCA) becomes a branch of the internal carotid artery (ICA), rather than of the basilar artery (BA). Mechanisms underlying diabetes enhancement of endothelin-1-induced contraction in rabbit basilar artery

The influence of alloxan-induced diabetes on the reactivity of rabbit basilar artery to endothelin-1 was examined. Endothelin-1 induced concentration-dependent contraction of basilar arteries that was higher in diabetic than in control rabbits. Endothelium removal produced a higher enhancement of the endothelin-1-induced contraction in control than in diabetic rabbits. N(G)-nitro-L-arginine (L-NOArg) enhanced the maximal contraction induced by endothelin-1 in control rabbits and potentiated this response in diabetic rabbits. Comparative analysis and antimicrobial action of some essential oils from plants

In this research, essential oils (EOs) were extracted through steaming from aerial parts of three plants: basil (Ocinum basilicum L.), peppermint (Mentha piperita L.) and oregano (Origanum vulgare L.) form Sibiu County, Romania. The GC-MS analysis indicated that eugenol and apiol were the major compounds in the basil EO. Timol, ɣ-terpinene, and p-cymene were the major compounds in the volatile oil extracted from oregano and menthol and methone the main components in the peppermint EO. Scalp, basal epidural and intravascular far-field recordings after median nerve stimulation: evidence for a separate N18a potential

Far-field somatosensory evoked potentials (SSEPs) after median nerve stimulation were recorded from scalp- (Fz), epidural- (ED) and intravascular electrodes (basilar artery [Bas]) to study the nature of the controversial N18a component of the widespread N18 potential. In healthy volunteers frequently an N18a potential was recorded at Fz. Simultaneous Fz and ED recordings at the pontomesencephalic junction as well as Bas-recordings at the caudal basilar artery showed N18a components identical in latency and shape. The design in the various sectors of decorative and industrial arts for Ernesto Basile represents a unitary fact linked to architectural composition. His activity in the different artistic sectors stands out above all for his ability to identify autonomous fields of research and experimentation. The truly innovative scope of Basile’s role lies above all in his being probably the only Italian architect of international level consciously devoted to the principle of integral design and to an effective leveling of the arts. This will lead him in the arc of his entire activity, from the integral project to industrial design, to anticipate the birth of the figure of the designer.
