Tutkin pro gradu -työssäni S2-oppijoiden käsityksiä englannin kielen käytöstä ja asemasta Suomessa. Aiemmat tutkimukset englannin kielen käytöstä ja asemasta Suomessa ovat keskittyneet suomalaisten äidinkielenpuhujien käsityksiin. Tämän tutkielman tarkoituksena on selvittää minkälaisia käsityksiä S2-oppijoilla on englannin käytöstä ja asemasta Suomessa sekä heidän omassa elämässään että yleisemmällä tasolla. A correct food tray sealing is required to preserve food properties and safety for consumers. Traditional food packaging inspections are made by human operators to detect seal defects. Recent advances in the field of food inspection have been related to the use of hyperspectral imaging technology and automated vision-based inspection systems. Lack of participation in health-promoting behaviors and participation in behaviors that contribute to health risks have been linked to health disparities observed among individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds. This chapter presents a basic process model to summarize the effects of socio-structural variables linked to health disparities – socioeconomic status, education, health literacy, ethnicity, and religiosity – on individuals’ beliefs and cognitions that determine behavior. Pasan, pues, a primer plano las características cognitivas del estudiante como punto de partida y como resultado de aprendizaje. El presente trabajo analiza las creencias epistemológicas y el sistema de valores de 760 estudiantes de la Universitat de València desde un enfoque descriptivo. Para ello, se utilizó el cuestionario EBS (Wood y Kardash, 2002) y el Cuestionario de Valores (Schwartz, 1992). An Examination of the Structure of the Career Decision Self-Efficacy Scale (Short Form) Among Italian High School Students

This study aims to evaluate the factor structure of Career Decision Self-Efficacy scale-short form in a sample of Italian high school adolescents. confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was used to test the degree to which a one-factor structure and a five-factor structure provided the best fit. In view of available research the five-factor structure was expected to provide the best fit. Moreover, factorial invariance in males and females was tested. It was expected to be invariant across groups. As expected the five-factor structure showed a better fit than the one-factor model and the factorial invariance resulted invariant across boys and girls.

Philosophy begins where science ends. Philosophy has ceased to be a science. It is a source of its own. The limits of science make obvious that faith belongs to being human. Faith is either religious or philosophical. Faith is a main phenomenon of being human. It consists in the simple fact that persons have ultimate convictions. Philosophical faith is existential faith. Its certainty is tied to the individual. Philosophical faith cannot be achieved without personal effort, without acts of actual freedom, and without realizations of Existenz. Jaspers’ concept of philosophical faith turns out to be a new synthesis of historical conditions and philosophical requirements.

Driving through floodwater: Exploring driver decisions through the lived experience

More than half of unintentional flood-related drowning deaths in Australia are due to driving through floodwater, despite on-going public campaigns. Currently, there is a knowledge gap in understanding why individuals choose to drive through floodwater and the decisions that may lead to such actions. We propose that a more complete understanding of individuals’ decisions to drive through floodwater needs to be considered in the context of the lived experience. Tutkielman tarkoituksena oli selvittää vieraiden kielten yliopisto-opiskelijoiden kokemuksia kielijännityksestä. Tavoitteena oli tarkastella missä tilanteissa opiskelijat kokevat kielijännitystä, mistä se heiden mielestään johtuu, millaisia vaikutuksia jännityksellä on ja millaisia keinoja opiskelijoilla on pärjätä oman jännityksen kanssa. Tutkimuksessa keskeisessä roolissa ovat opiskelijoiden omat käsitykset ja kokemukset. Kielijännitystä on tutkittu paljon mutta aiempi tutkimus on keskittynyt aloitteleviin kielten opiskelijoihin erityisesti Pohjois-Amerikkalaisessa yliopisto kontekstissa.
