This study was conducted to determine how seed N accumulation is regulated in pea. The incubations were carried out under nonlimiting N in order to differentiate the effects of biochemical characteristics of residues from those of soil N availability. Polymorphism for interspecific hybridisation within a population of wild radish (Raphanus raphanistrum) pollinated by oilseed rape (Brassica napus)

The within-population polymorphism of wild radish (Raphanus raphanistrum) for interspecific hybridisation with two cultivars of oilseed rape (Brassica napus) was investigated by hand crossing experiments and fluorescence microscopy. Wide variability among plants was observed in the ability of oilseed rape pollen to germinate on the wild radish stigma; the frequency of pistils showing pollen tubes ranged from 0 to 1, depending on the female plant. The ratio of fertilised ovules to the total number of ovules in ovaries where pollen tubes arrived ranged from 0.02 to 0.51. Polyamines and related enzymes in rice seeds differing in germination potential

In ungerminated rice seeds, (Japonica rice variety, CV Tapei 309), the content of free amines (putrescine, spermidine, spermine, tyramine) was higher in seed lots having a low germination frequency compared to those with high germination potential. Conversely, amine conjugates (di-feruloylputrescine, di-feruloylspermidine, diferuloyldiaminopropane and feruloyltyramine) decreased with loss of viability. Cross-resistance to aryloxyphenoxypropionate and cyclohexanedione herbicides in foxtail millet (Setaria italica)

Abstract Nearly isogenic backcrossed populations of foxtail millet ( Setaria italica (L.) Beauv.), resistant and susceptible to sethoxydim, were used in dose response analysis to seven acetyl-coenzyme A carboxylase inhibiting herbicides, aryloxyphenoxypropionate, and cyclohexanedione. Mortality and fresh and dry weights were recorded at the seedling stage. Results of greenhouse experiments showed that the resistant type was cross-resistant to all tested herbicides. Sethoxydim only was completely safe for the crop while three other herbicides had a moderate effect on the growth of resistant plants at recommended field doses. A microbiological, physicochemical, and texture study during storage of yoghurt produced under isostatic pressure

Abstract This work aimed to study refrigeration storage (4 °C for 23 days) of yoghurt produced at 43 °C under sub-lethal high pressure, at 10, 20, 30 and 40 MPa, in comparison with the fermentation process at atmospheric pressure (0.1 MPa). Lactic acid bacteria (S. thermophilus and L. bulgaricus, LAB) and quality parameters like pH, titratable acidity, syneresis and colour were evaluated, along with textural analyses to infer how pressure would impact the obtained yoghurt along storage. The effects of seed number on fruit size in two fleshy fruits, grape and tomato, of different genotypes and grown under distinct carbohydrate availability levels were analyzed with a model.
