High-efficiency silicon-compatible photodetectors based on Ge quantum dots

We report on high responsivity, broadband metal/insulator/semiconductor photodetectors with amorphous Ge quantum dots (a-Ge QDs) as the active absorbers embedded in a silicon dioxide matrix. Spectral responsivities between 1-4 A/W are achieved in the 500-900 nm wavelength range with internal quantum efficiencies (IQEs) as high as ∼700%. We investigate the role of a-Ge QDs in the photocurrent generation and explain the high IQE as a result of transport mechanisms via photoexcited QDs. These results suggest that a-Ge QDs are promising for high-performance integrated optoelectronic devices that are fully compatible with silicon technology in terms of fabrication and thermal budget. © 2011 Amer…

It can be efficiently created and probed via resonant interactions with light, the technique which is at the heart of modern atomic clocks and magnetometers. Academic research on newly discovered ancient Buddhist manuscripts is largely based on objects that come from the antiquities market and to a much lesser degree on objects coming from documented and controlled archaeological excavations. Despite their being unprovenanced, collectors and scholars often present such objects with narratives mimicking provenance. The use of the label "Dead Sea Scrolls" attached to archaeological material without connections to Judaism or early Christianity is a prevalent example of this scholarly praxis. La implantación y difusión de las artes marciales japonesas en Occidente supuso la importación de prácticas socioculturales privadas de las premisas de su contexto de origen. ¿Cómo afrontar estas prácticas que son ajenas a nuestra identidad cultural? Una interpretación estricta exige entenderlas como prácticas corporales con una idiosincrasia cultural, caracterizadas por incorporar una experiencia vivencial en la que el cuerpo ocupa un lugar preeminente. Su enseñanza y aprendizaje se establecen a través de un sistema triangular integrado por una esencia espiritual, una forma técnica y una estructura física (sin-gi-tai), que se inserta en un proceso singular (shu-ha-ri).

In vitro response of two Sicilian genotypes of Morus (L.) through axillary bud culture.

A protocol for the in vitro establishment of two Sicilian genotypes of mulberry has been set up. Multiple shoots were initiated and plantlets were produced from buds collected from mature trees of Morus alba L. and Morus nigra L., grown in the field. The influence of two explanting times (September and December) of buds on the in vitro response has been observed. The percentage of sprouting after four weeks of culture was greatly higher with material explanted from the field in September compared with the one collected in December. The globe artichoke (Cynara cardunculus L. var. scolymus) is a perennial plant cultivated in the Mediterranean region and the Americas for its edible young flower heads. Although vegetative propagation by offshoots or by “ovoli” (underground dormant axillary buds) has been the primary method of propagation, the potential for the diffusion of diseases and the phenotypic variability can be very high. In physics »the subject« is considered as one who is observing and experiencing a given physical phenomena and also observing a mind model which describes this phenomena. The subject has an inherent ability to be aware of material and psychological phenomena (scientific models created by the mind, thoughts, memories, emotions) and also to be aware of “spaces” in which these phenomena are taking place. Material phenomena exist in outer physical space, psychological phenomena happen in inner psychological space. The ability of “space observation” indicates that from ontological point of view observer is “beyond” physical and psychological space.
