Older home nursing patients’ perception of social provisions and received care

2010

Social loneliness and isolation may be some of the consequences that older people experience regarding age-related changes and losses, and nurses should be engaged in identifying social networks and social needs in this group. The aims of this study were to describe perceived social provisions in a group of older home-dwelling care-dependent patients, and to explore the relationship between perceived social provisions, physical functioning, mental state and reception of formal and informal care. The sample consisted of 242 persons aged 75+ years from seven municipalities in southern Norway, all receiving home nursing. Data were collected by means of structured interviews. Social support was…

Mathematical modeling of fetal limb growth

1989

Using ultrasound measurements of the femur, tibia, humerus, radius (N = 515), and fibula and ulna (N = 385) from normal fetuses between 12 and 40 completed weeks of gestation, growth models were determined for each bone by computer analysis. On the basis of residual analysis, growth of fetal limb bones could best be expressed as a function of tangens hyperbolicus. Growth profiles and growth data are shown with 5th, 10th, 50th, 90th, and 95th percentiles. These results are compared with previous investigations of limb bone measurements.

Dielectric Relaxations in Confined Hydrated Myoglobin

2009

In this work we report the results of a broadband dielectric spectroscopy study on the dynamics of a globular protein, myoglobin, in confined geometry, i.e. encapsulated in a porous silica matrix, at low hydration levels, where about only one or two water layers surround the proteins. In order to highlight the specific effect of confinement in the silica host, we compared this system with hydrated myoglobin powders at the same hydration levels. The comparison between the data relative to the two different systems indicates that geometrical confinement within the silica matrix plays a crucial role in protein-water dielectric relaxations, the effect of sol-gel encapsulation being essentially …

Prediction of the difficulty level in a standardized reading comprehension test : contributions from cognitive psychology and psychometrics

2013

European vestibular experiments on the Spacelab-1 mission: 2. Experimental equipment and methods

1986

A series of vestibular experiments were performed in conjunction with the first Spacelab mission, consisting of sets of pre-, in- and postflight tests. A multipurpose experimental apparatus used for the diverse flight and ground tests is presented. Additional apparatus together with the multi-purpose package were used in the baseline data collection facility at the landing site at NASA Dryden Flight Research Facility for the ground tests. The tests involved optokinetic, caloric and mechanical (whole-body or head-alone) stimulation. The latter included linear acceleration in the subject's x, y and z axes, static roll and yaw about an earth-vertical axis. Physiological parameters such as elec…

Prävention nach akutem Koronarsyndrom

2014
