Cognitive impairment results from a complex interplay of many factors. The most important independent predictor of cognitive decline is age but other contributing factors include demographic, genetic, socio-economic, and environmental parameters, including nutrition. Use of nutritional supplement to improve performance in professional soccer players: A case report

The aim of the study was to investigate the intake percentage and the satisfaction level of some nutritional supplements used by professional soccer players. Twenty-nine professional soccer players (age: 24.6 ± 5.2 years, body weight: 79.2 ± 4.9 kg, body height: 1.83 ± 0.05 m) belonging to a team of Serie A were interviewed on: frequency of use, tolerability, and acceptance of the supplements (creatine, β-alanine, whey protein, nitrates, vitamin D3, caffeine) proposed by the nutritionist team. This survey revealed a great inter-individual variability on the intake of the proposed supplements. Abstract A novel approach towards the activation of different arenes and purines including caffeine and theophylline is presented. The simple, safe and scalable electrochemical synthesis of 1,1,1,3,3,3‐hexafluoroisopropanol (HFIP) aryl ethers was conducted using an easy electrolysis setup with boron‐doped diamond (BDD) electrodes. Good yields up to 59 % were achieved. Triethylamine was used as a base as it forms a highly conductive media with HFIP, making additional supporting electrolytes superfluous. 14C-Coffein wurde an Ratten als Coffeinlosung bzw. als Bestandteil eines Kaffee-oder Tee-Infuses per os verabreicht. Die Resorption von Coffein erfolgte nach Verabreichung von Coffeinlosung und Kaffee-Infus verhaltnismasg schnell, nach Verabreichung von Tee-Infus dagegen mit einer gewissen Verzogerung. Die14C-Aktivitatswerte im Serum und im Rattenkorper fielen nach Erreichung ihres Maximums nach Gabe von Coffein und Kaffee sehr schnell, nach Gabe von Tee dagegen sehr langsam ab. Die14C-Ausscheidung im Harn war nach Verabreichung von Tee deutlich geringer als nach Coffein oder Kaffee.
Crossover, double-blind clinical trial comparing almotriptan and ergotamine plus caffeine for acute migraine therapy

In this randomized, double-blind, crossover clinical trial, adult patients treated two migraine attacks: one with almotriptan 12.5 mg and the other with ergotamine 2 mg plus caffeine 200 mg. Treatment with almotriptan was associated with a significantly greater proportion of patients achieving 2-h pain free (20.9% vs. 13.7%; P < 0.05) and 2-h pain relief (57.7% vs. 44.5%; P < 0.01) compared with ergotamine plus caffeine therapy; significant differences were not seen at 1 h. Psychomotor abnormalities are one of the complications of opioid therapy in advanced cancer patients. Caffeine has potential properties to counteract the central effects of morphine. Twelve patients receiving stable doses of slow release morphine with adequate pain relief were scheduled for this double-blind placebo-controlled crossover trial. The treatment consisted of an intravenous dose of 1/6 of the daily morphine dose, using an intravenous/oral conversion ratio of 1:3. The dose calculated was administered in 5 minutes.
