Crisis agrarias y carestías en las primeras décadas del siglo XIV. El caso de Valencia
1987
EL COMIENZO DE LA CRISIS DEL SIGLO XIV EN OCCIDENTE SE SUELE COINCIDIR CON LAS CATASTROFES AGRARIAS QUE DIERON LUGAR A LA LLAMADA "GRAN HAMBRE EUROPEA" DE LOS AÑOS 1315-1317. SIN EMBARGO, EL AMBITO MEDITERRANEO NO PARECE HABERSE VISTO AFECTADO POR ESTE FENOMENO, AUNQUE SI POR OTROS SIMILARES, QUIZA MENOS VIRULENTOS, PERO TAMBIEN DE AMPLIO RADIO DE ACCION. EN EL REINO DE VALENCIA, LAS PRIMERAS CRISIS AGRARIAS Y CARESTIAS DE LA CENTURIA SE LOCALIZAN EN DOS PERIODOS: 1310-1314 Y 1324-1329. DURANTE ESTOS, LA CIUDAD DE VALENCIA, SEGUN REVELA LA DOCUMENTACION MUNICIPAL, EXPERIMENTO REPETIDAMENTE DIFICULTADES EN EL AVITUALLAMIENTO FRUMENTARIO (A)
PB15. Neurophysiological biomarker for the clinical development of tuberous sclerosis
2018
Aim To investigate the neuronal networks in children with tuberous sclerosis complex (TS) undergoing treatment with Everolimus. Methods Sleep and wake electroencephalography (EEG) before and one year after the start of the treatment with Everolimus were investigated in 13 patients with TS. To investigate functional and effective connectivity within the network generating the delta and theta activity in the background sleep and wake EEG, the methods of dynamic imaging of coherent sources (DICS) and renormalized partial directed coherence (RPDC) were applied. Results Sources before the treatment . Independent of location of the tubera and severity of epilepsy, delta activity in the background…
The role of public awareness campaigns in sustainable development
2017
The concept of sustainable development has been present in political discourse for many years. Striving to achieve it has become a worldwide priority. Success in this field depends not only on the right government policies. It is also a matter of society engagement. There are different direct and indirect tools intended to promote and reinforce positive changes in social attitudes. Among the most important ones are public awareness campaigns. The aim of the article is to present the ways in which they can contribute to sustainable development and how their positive impact should be properly assessed.
WNK3 Maintains the GABAergic Inhibitory Tone, Synaptic Excitation and Neuronal Excitability via Regulation of KCC2 Cotransporter in Mature Neurons
2021
The activation of chloride (Cl-)permeable gamma (γ)-aminobutyric acid type A(GABAA) receptors induces synaptic inhibition in mature and excitation in immature neurons. This developmental "switch" in GABA function controlled by its polarity depends on the postnatal decrease in intraneuronal Cl- concentration mediated by KCC2, a member of cation-chloride cotransporters (CCCs). The serine-threonine kinase WNK3 (With No Lysine [K]), is a potent regulator of all CCCs and is expressed in neurons. Here, we characterized the functions of WNK3 and its role in GABAergic signaling in cultured embryonic day 18 (E18) hippocampal neurons. We observed a decrease in WNK3 expression as neurons mature. Knock…
Long-Term Potentiation in Slices from Human Hippocampus
1988
Long-term potentiation (LTP) has been observed in slices from human hippocampi removed for intractable epilepsy using extra- and intracellular recording in vitro. Furthermore the effects of several neuroactive substances with possible relevance for synaptic plasticity was investigated. Human hippocampal neurones in vitro display properties very similar to the respective rodent cells.
BDNF regulates spontaneous correlated activity at early developmental stages by increasing synaptogenesis and expression of the K+/Cl- co-transporter…
2003
Spontaneous neural activity is a basic property of the developing brain, which regulates key developmental processes, including migration, neural differentiation and formation and refinement of connections. The mechanisms regulating spontaneous activity are not known. By using transgenic embryos that overexpress BDNF under the control of the nestin promoter, we show here that BDNF controls the emergence and robustness of spontaneous activity in embryonic hippocampal slices. Further, BDNF dramatically increases spontaneous co-active network activity, which is believed to synchronize gene expression and synaptogenesis in vast numbers of neurons. In fact, BDNF raises the spontaneous activity of…
Antarctic hydroids (Cnidaria, Hydrozoa) of the families Campanulinidae, Lafoeidae and Campanulariidae from recent Antarctic expeditions with R.V.Pola…
2004
Species of the thecate hydroid families Campanulinidae, Campanulariidae and Lafoeidae have been studied. The material studied originates from the Weddell Sea and was collected by several French and German Antarctic expeditions with R.V. Polarstern. Fourteen species were found, three belonging to Campanulinidae, four to Campanulariidae and seven to Lafoeidae, one of these new to science (Filellum magnificum sp. nov.). The coppinia of Lafoea gaussica Vanhoffen, 1910, is described for the first time as well as the gonothecae of Opercularella belgicae (Hartlaub, 1904). A neotype is indicated for Filellum antarcticum (Hartlaub, 1904). Available data concerning autecology and geographical distrib…
Redescription of Bedotella armata from Biscay Bay, northern Spain, the type species of Bedotella Stechow, 1913 (Cnidaria, Hydrozoa, Lafoeidae), with …
2007
The circalittoral and bathyal genus Bedotella, comprising a unique known species endemic to the North European Atlantic (Lusitanian Province), Bedotella armata (Pictet, C. & M. Bedot, 1900) is redescribed based on a specimen from the Bay of Biscay, North Spain. As the holotype of the species, originally described as Campanularia armata, is sterile and incomplete, the present re-description includes new data concerning its morphometry, including gonothecae, and cnidom, as well as all the literature. The diagnostic characters of Bedotella armata are the presence of globular nematothecae, the campanuliform hydrothecae, and flabelliform, gigantic gonothecae. We corroborate the hypotheses of aff…
Counter-propagating frequency mixing with Terahertz waves in diamond
2013
Frequency conversion by means of Kerr nonlinearity is one of the most common and exploited nonlinear optical processes in the UV, visible, IR, and mid-IR spectral regions. Here we show that wave mixing of an optical field and a terahertz wave can be achieved in diamond, resulting in the frequency conversion of the terahertz radiation either by sum- or difference-frequency generation. In the latter case, we show that this process is phase matched and most efficient in a counterpropagating geometry.
