Three new acylated triterpene saponins from Acanthophyllum squarrosum.
2001
Three new triterpenoid saponins, 1-3, were isolated from the roots of Acanthophyllum squarrosum. Their structures were established mainly by 2D NMR techniques as 3-O-beta-D-galactopyranosyl-(1--2)-[beta-D-xylopyranosyl-(1--3)]-beta-D-glucuronopyranosyl-gypsogenin-28-O-beta-D-xylopyranosyl-(1--3)-beta-D-xylopyranosyl-(1--4)-beta-D-xylopyranosyl-(1--4)-3-O-acetyl-alpha-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1--2)-3,4-di-O-acetyl-beta-D-fucopyranoside (1), 3-O-beta-D-galactopyranosyl-(1--2)-[beta-D-xylopyranosyl-(1--3)]-beta-D-glucuronopyranosyl-gypsogenin-28-O-beta-D-xylopyranosyl-(1--4)-alpha-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1--2)-[5-O-acetyl-alpha-L-arabinofuranosyl-(1--3)]-4-O-acetyl-beta-D-fucopyranoside (2), and 3-O-beta…
Glucuronide triterpene saponins from Bersama engleriana
2006
Five 3-O-glucuronide triterpene saponins (1-5) were isolated from the stem bark of Bersama engleriana Gurke along with two known saponins, polyscias saponin C and aralia saponin 15, and one major C-glycoside xanthone, mangiferin. The structures of the saponins were established mainly by means of spectroscopic methods (one- and two-dimensional NMR spectroscopy as well as FAB-, HRESI-mass spectrometry) as 3-O-[beta-D-glucopyranosyl-(1-->2)-beta-D-glucuronopyranosyl]-28-O-[beta-D-glucopyranosyl]-betulinic acid (1), 3-O-[beta-D-glucopyranosyl-(1-->2)-[beta-D-galactopyranosyl-(1-->3)]-beta-D-glucuronopyranosyl]-oleanolic acid (2), 3-O-[beta-D-glucopyranosyl-(1-->3)-beta-D-glucuronopyranosyl]-28-…
Squarroside A, a biologically active triterpene saponin from Acanthophyllum squarrosum.
1993
A new bioactive saponin has been isolated from the roots of Acanthophyllum squarrosum. Based on spectroscopic data, especially direct and long-range heteronuclear 2D NMR analysis, and on chemical transformations, the structure of this new compound was elucidated as 3-O-beta-D-galactopyranosyl-(1--2)-[beta-D-xylopyranosyl-(1--3)]-beta- D-glucuronopyranosyl gypsogenin 28-O-beta-D-xylopyranosyl-(1--4)-alpha-L- rhamnopyranosyl-(1--2)-[alpha-L-arabinofuranosyl-(1--3)]-beta-D-4-O- acetylfucopyranoside for which we proposed the name squarroside A. This molecule showed a concentration dependent immunomodulatory effect in the in vitro lymphocyte transformation test.
Novel O-antigen of Hafnia alvei PCM 1195 lipopolysaccharide with a teichoic acid-like structure
2009
Abstract The lipopolysaccharide (LPS) of Hafnia alvei strain PCM 1195 was obtained by the hot phenol/water method. The O-specific polysaccharide was released by mild acidic hydrolysis and isolated by gel filtration. The structure of the O-specific polysaccharide was investigated by 1 H, 13 C, and 31 P NMR spectroscopy, MALDI-TOF MS, and GC–MS, accompanied by monosaccharide and methylation analysis. It was concluded that the O-specific polysaccharide is composed of a hexasaccharide repeating units interlinked with a phosphate group: {→4-α- d -Glc p -(1→3)-α- l - Fuc p NAc-(1→3)-[α- d -Glc p -(1→4)]-α- d -Glc p NAc-(1→3)-α- l - Fuc p NAc-(1→4)-α- d -Glc p -(1→P} n .
Jenisseensosides C and D, biologically active acylated triterpene saponins from Silene jenisseensis
1997
Abstract We previously reported the isolation and structure elucidation of a new trans - p -methoxycinnamoyl triterpene-saponin along with its cis - p -methoxycinnamoyl isomer as an inseparable mixture from the roots of Silene jenisseensis . In a continuing study on this plant, two additional new acylated triterpene-saponins were obtained as an inseparable mixture. Their structures have been established by chemical means and spectroscopic methods including 1D and 2D homonuclear and heteronuclear correlation NMR spectroscopy as 3- O -[β- d -galactopyranosyl-(1 → 2)-β- d -glucuronopyranosyl]-28- O -[{α- l -rhamnopyranosyl-(1 → 2)}- {4- O - trans - p -methoxycinnamoyl}-β- d -fucopyranosyl] qui…
Anti-inflammatory activity of saikosaponins from Heteromorpha trifoliata.
1995
By means of activity-directed chromatographic fractionation using the 12-O-tetradecanoylphorbol acetate (TPA)-induced edema test, two saikosaponins were isolated from the MeOH extract of Heteromorpha trifoliata leaves. They were identified as 16 beta, 23-dihydroxy-13,28-epoxyolean-11-en-3 beta-yl-[beta-D-glucopyranosyl (1-->2)]-[beta-D-glucopyranosyl (1-->3)]-beta-D-fucopyranoside [1] and 16 beta, 23,28-trihydroxy-11 alpha-methoxyolean-12-en-3 beta-yl-[beta-D-glucopyranosyl (1-->2)]-[beta-D-glucopyranosyl (1-->3) [beta-D-fucopyranoside [2]. Compound 1 showed activity in the TPA and ethylphenylpropiolate (EPP) mouse ear edema and the serotonin paw edema tests, whereas compound 2 was active o…
A healthy Nordic diet and physical performance in old age : findings from the longitudinal Helsinki Birth Cohort Study
2016
AbstractEpidemiological studies have shown that a number of nutrients are associated with better physical performance. However, little is still known about the role of the whole diet, particularly a healthy Nordic diet, in relation to physical performance. Therefore, we examined whether a healthy Nordic diet was associated with measures of physical performance 10 years later. We studied 1072 participants from the Helsinki Birth Cohort Study. Participants’ diet was assessed using a validated 128-item FFQ at the mean age of 61 years, and a priori-defined Nordic diet score (NDS) was calculated. The score included Nordic fruits and berries, vegetables, cereals, PUFA:SFA and trans-fatty acids ra…
Nutrient Intake and Depression Symptoms in Spanish Children: The ANIVA Study
2016
The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between nutritional intake and depressive symptoms in Valencian schoolchildren. The ANIVA (Antropometria y Nutricion Infantil de Valencia) study is a descriptive cross-sectional study. During academic year 2013–2014, 710 schoolchildren aged 6–9 years were selected from eleven primary schools in Valencia (Spain). Children’s dietary intake was measured on three-day food records, completed by parents/guardians; children completed the 20-item Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale for Children (CES-DC) Questionnaire to measure depressive symptoms. Weight, height, and body mass index (BMI), and z-scores were evaluated in all subjec…
Genomic and Metabolomic Profile Associated to Clustering of Cardio-Metabolic Risk Factors
2016
Background To identify metabolomic and genomic markers associated with the presence of clustering of cardiometabolic risk factors (CMRFs) from a general population. Methods and Findings One thousand five hundred and two subjects, Caucasian, > 18 years, representative of the general population, were included. Blood pressure measurement, anthropometric parameters and metabolic markers were measured. Subjects were grouped according the number of CMRFs (Group 1: <2; Group 2: 2; Group 3: 3 or more CMRFs). Using SNPlex, 1251 SNPs potentially associated to clustering of three or more CMRFs were analyzed. Serum metabolomic profile was assessed by 1H NMR spectra using a Brucker Advance DRX 600 spect…
Short-term moderate diet restriction in adulthood can reverse oxidative, cardiovascular and metabolic alterations induced by postnatal overfeeding in…
2016
AbstractWe aimed to determine whether moderate diet restriction could restore cardiac, oxidative and metabolic alterations induced by postnatal overfeeding (PNOF). Litters of C57BL/6 male mice were either maintained at 9 (normal litter, NL), or reduced to 3 (small litter, SL) in order to induce PNOF. At 6 months, half of the NL and SL mice were subjected to 20% calorie-restriction (CR: NLCR, SLCR) for one month, while the other half continued to eat ad libitum (AL: NLAL, SLAL). Six-month old SL mice presented overweight, fat accumulation, hyperleptinemia, glucose intolerance, insulin resistance, increased cardiac ROS production and decreased left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF). After …
