Comparison of Structure and Properties of Differently Treated Illite Clay and Products
2014
The investigation is focused on modification of the structure 2:1 sheet silicates - illite clay by subjecting them to chemical and microbiological impact. It is shown that alkaline activation of illite clay by sodium hydroxide leads to the slight structural changes mainly characterized by water link changes. The effect of bacteria Ps. fluorescens AM PS11on structure changes of illite is small and is influenced on rheology of treated clay.It is shown that the influence of chemical treatment on porosity, bulk density and increase of compressive strength of sintered ceramic samples is notable.
Determination of the Boron/Lead Ratio in Ceramic Materials Based on Electrochemical Quartz Crystal Microbalance
2004
A method for quantitatively determining the relationship boron/lead in ceramic materials is presented. It is based on the attachment of microsamples of ceramic frits to an electrochemical quartz crystal microbalance (EQCM). After a reductive deposition step in the 0.25 to 0.85 V (vs. AgCl/Ag) potential range, well-defined stripping peaks are recorded in 0.10 M NaCl plus 0.10 M mannitol. The deposition of boron and lead from suspensions of solid materials, and its subsequent oxidative dissolution can be monitorized at the EQCM. The quotient between the maximum mass gain and the corresponding charge passed enables for a direct quantitation of the boron/lead molar ratio in ceramic material…
Natural Radioactivity in Clay Ceramics and their Raw Materials in Latvia
2018
Natural radionuclides K-40, and Th-232, U-238 (Ra-226) decay chain products contained in building materials are the main source of radiation dose received by population and the only source of indoor radiation exposure. Present work contains results of the study of natural radionuclide activity level in clay, clay ceramics and silica bricks used in Latvia. Obtained data show that radionuclide content in different clay products can differ up to five times. However, determined activity index values for all tested materials, except fireproof bricks, were below radionuclide concentration level permitted by EU and Latvian national regulations. Comparison with analogous data from other North Europ…
Acetylcholine-responsive cargo release using acetylcholinesterase-capped nanomaterials
2019
[EN] Mesoporous silica nanoparticles capped with acetylcholinesterase, through boronic ester linkages, selectively release an entrapped cargo in the presence of acetylcholine.
Dimensional encapsulation of I− I 2 I− in an organic salt crystal matrix
2010
Bis(trimethylammonium)hexane diiodide encapsulates iodine from solution and through a gas/solid reaction yielding in a predictable and controllable manner the selective formation of the rare polyiodide species I(-)...I-I...I(-), which matches in length to the chosen dication.
Diastereomeric control of enantioselectivity: evidence for metal cluster catalysis
2014
Enantioselective hydrogenation of tiglic acid effected by diastereomers of the general formula [(μ-H)2Ru3(μ3-S)(CO)7(μ-P–P*)] (P–P* = chiral Walphos diphosphine ligand) strongly supports catalysis by intact Ru3 clusters. A catalytic mechanism involving Ru3 clusters has been established by DFT calculations. peerReviewed
Simulation of Fatigue Delamination Growth in Composites with Different Mode Mixtures
2007
A numerical model, obtained by implementing a cyclic damage model in the framework of an interface element, is here proposed to reproduce the crack growth in laminated composites subjected to cyclically repeated loads. This model, which differs from the few studies in the literature on the topic, applies not only to single fracture modes but also to mixed modes, and to constant or variable crack growth rates. The applied load (in terms of force or displacement) is assumed to oscillate between a minimum and a maximum constant value. The Paris curve can be reproduced with accuracy once some parameters in the numerical model are tuned with experiments. These parameters are preliminarily found…
- SHADOW PRICES AND DISTANCE FUNCTIONS: AN ANALYSIS FOR FIRMS OF THE SPANISH CERAMIC PAVEMENTS INDUSTRY.
1999
This paper deals with the calculation of shadow prices for two industrial wastes generated on their production processes by a sample of eighteen firms belonging to the Spanish ceramic pavements industry. These prices are used to construct a corrected index of productivity which allows for considering wastes going with the production of marketable goods. It is followed the ethodologicalapproach first proposed by Färe, Grosskopf, Lovell y Yaisawarng (1993), which establishes a duality between distance and revenue functions. The shadow prices obtained for watery muds and used oils allow to measure in terms of a loss of marketable output the cost of achieving a marginal reduction in the product…
The S … Hal and Se … Hal chalcogen bonding in a series of thiourea, selenourea and their derivatives
2021
The chalcogen bonding (ChB) in a series of thiourea, selenourea and their derivatives has been investigated in the present paper. Thus, selenourea and dimethylselenourea undergo dimerization and trimerization processes in the presence of various halogen species (1–5). Selenourea and dimethylselenourea form trimers 3–4 in the presence of lighter halogens (chlorine and bromine) through Se⋯Se chalcogen bonding. When moving to heavier halogen (iodine), the dimers 1–2 are formed. Thiourea and its derivatives also tend to make very strong S⋯S bonds and form dimers in the case of lighter halogens chlorine and bromine (compounds 6–7). However, the monomers separated by the iodine species are formed…
Tetracyclic silaheterocycle formed through a pericyclic reaction cascade including a two-fold intramolecular C–C bond activation
2022
Reductive debromination of the tribromoamidosilane 2 gave the tetracyclic silaheterocycle 3 through a unique reaction cascade involving unprecedented two-fold intramolecular cycloaddition by transient silylenes. Experimental and computational analyses of the reaction mechanism allowed the identification of the key intermediates that lead to the silaheterocycle 3 or, alternatively, to the cyclotrisilene 19. peerReviewed
