Characterization of the metal artefacts of the two craft-quarters of the roman vicus Bliesbruck (Moselle)

Diese Arbeit ist ein vollständiges Studium der Metallfunde aus den zwei Handwerkervierteln von Bliesbruck (Moselle, Frankreich). Diese Funde stammen aus vierzigjahrelangen Ausgrabungen. Das Korpus besteht aus 450 Kg Metall (Eisen, Kupferlegierungen, weisse Metalle, Gold) wovon 4 200 Objekte und 22 000 Nägel. Eine Objekt- und Funktionsidentifizierung und eine typologische Nägelzahl haben es ermöglicht, die Objektverbindungen wieder zusammenzusetzen und die Daten nach verschiedenen Kriterien einander gegenüberzustellen : Metall, Lage (Viertel und Grundstück), Chronologie und Befundnummertyp. Mapping soil and substratum at a very high spatial resolution in the hillslope of Couchey (France)

International audience; In this work, we present a method based on very high spatial resolution (VHSR) aerial images acquired in the visible domain and that map soil surface diversity at the hillslope scale with a spatial resolution of a few centimeters. This method combines aerial VHSR image classification with local soil sampling. Principal component analysis (PCA) and non-supervised classification was performed on image characteristics to define soil surface characteristic classes (SSC). The realism of crowd behavioral animation is based on one hand on a rendering of graphic scenes generated by the application, and on the other hand on the realism of the behavior. This is last point which is our object of study. The realism of crowds' behavior is essentially global (macroscopic realism). It must respect the required statistical characteristics of the crowd (density, dispersal, speed…) similar to those of a real crowd. Single crystal EXAFS at high pressure

Abstract We present a new technique for structure characterization under high pressure conditions. The use of an undulator beam of the third-generation ESRF source of synchrotron radiation has enabled the first single crystal EXAFS experiments at high pressure using a diamond anvil cell as pressure generator. Taking advantage of the linear polarization of X-rays the technique becomes an orientation-selective probe of the local structure of materials. We describe the principle of the technique and some applications.

A Bayesian Reconstruction of a Historical Population in Finland, 1647–1850

This article provides a novel method for estimating historical population development. We review the previous literature on historical population time-series estimates and propose a general outline to address the well-known methodological problems. We use a Bayesian hierarchical time-series model that allows us to integrate the parish-level data set and prior population information in a coherent manner. The procedure provides us with model-based posterior intervals for the final population estimates.
