Antiferromagnetic NiO thickness dependent sign of the spin Hall magnetoresistance in γ-Fe 2 O 3 /NiO/Pt epitaxial stacks

2019

We study the spin Hall magnetoresistance (SMR) in epitaxial γ–Fe2O3/NiO(001)/Pt stacks, as a function of temperature and thickness of the antiferromagnetic insulating NiO layer. Upon increasing the thickness of NiO from 0 nm to 10 nm, we detect a sign change of the SMR in the temperature range between 10 K and 280 K. This temperature dependence of the SMR in our stacks is different compared to that of previously studied yttrium iron garnet/NiO/Pt, as we do not find any peak or sign change as a function of temperature. We explain our data by a combination of spin current reflection from both the NiO/Pt and γ-Fe2O3/NiO interfaces and the thickness-dependent exchange coupling mode between the …

Reactive Sintering of molybdenum disilicide by Spark Plasma Sintering from mechanically activated powder mixtures: Processing parameters and properti…

2008

Abstract Dense molybdenum disilicide with a nano-organized microstructure was synthesized by mechanical activation, by producing nanostructured agglomerates of a 1:2 mixture of Mo and Si, followed by the synthesis/consolidation in one step using SPS technology. In order to synthesize a dense molybdenum disilicide with a perfectly controlled microstructure, an investigation of the influence of Spark Plasma Sintering processing parameters (temperature, heating rate, mechanical pressure and holding time) on the chemical composition and the microstructure characteristics has been performed. The present work shows also that the so-obtained materials present better oxidation resistance in compari…

Enhancement of the dielectric response through Al-substitution in La1.6Sr0.4NiO4 nickelates

2016

The structures and dielectric properties of La1.6Sr0.4Ni1−xAlxO4 (x = 0, 0.2 and 0.4) ceramics elaborated using the Pechini method were studied for the first time. The same unique tetragonal phase was found in all compounds. The lattice parameters were found using Rietveld refinement. The surface morphology characterization and elemental analysis of these samples were respectively carried out using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS). A giant dielectric response was observed in these ceramics, and one dielectric relaxation was found. The substitution of nickel with aluminum results in a colossal dielectric constant value (>106). The dielectric l…

X-ray diffraction Warren–Averbach mullite analysis in whiteware porcelains: influence of kaolin raw material

2018

ABSTRACTCompositional and microstructural analysis of mullites in porcelain whitewares obtained by the firing of two blends of identical triaxial composition using a kaolin B consisting of ‘higher-crystallinity’ kaolinite or a finer halloysitic kaolin M of lower crystal order was performed. No significant changes in the average Al2O3 contents (near the stoichiometric composition 3:2) of the mullites were observed. Fast and slow firing at the same temperature using B or M kaolin yielded different mullite contents. The Warren–Averbach method showed increase of the D110 mullite crystallite size and crystallite size distributions with small shifts to greater values with increasing firing temper…

Influence of surface topography on depth profiles obtained by Rutherford backscattering spectrometry

2000

A method for determining correct depth profiles from samples with rough surfaces is presented. The method combines Rutherford backscattering spectrometry with atomic force microscopy. The topographical information obtained by atomic force microscopy is used to calculate the effect of the surface roughness on the backscattering spectrum. As an example, annealed Au/ZnSe heterostructures are studied. Gold grains were observed on the surfaces of the annealed samples. The annealing also caused diffusion of gold into the ZnSe. Backscattering spectra of the samples were measured with a 2 MeV 4He+ ion beam. A scanning nuclear microprobe was used to verify the results by measuring backscattering fro…

Ion track template technology for fabrication of CdTe and CdO nanocrystals

2020

Abstract CdTe and CdO nanocrystals were synthesized by chemical deposition into a-SiO2/n-Si ion track template formed by 200 MeV Xe ion irradiation with the fluence of 108 ions/cm2. Depending on the temperature of the solution CdTe + CdO and single-phase CdO with a hexagonal crystal structure were obtained, respectively. The study of the current – voltage characteristics of the obtained structure with the single-phase CdO allows us to estimate the number of grain boundaries and the height of the potential barrier, as well as the n-type conductivity.

Investigation of ZrO[sub 2]–Gd[sub 2]O[sub 3] Based High-k Materials as Capacitor Dielectrics

2010

Atomic layer deposition (ALD) of ZrO 2 ―Gd 2 O 3 nanolaminates and mixtures was investigated for the preparation of a high permittivity dielectric material. Variation in the relative number of ALD cycles for constituent oxides allowed one to obtain films with controlled composition. Pure ZrO 2 films possessed monoclinic and higher permittivity cubic or tetragonal phases, whereas the inclusion of Gd 2 O 3 resulted in the disappearance of the monoclinic phase. Changes in phase composition were accompanied with increased permittivity of mixtures and laminates with low Gd content. Further increase in the lower permittivity Gd 2 O 3 content above 3.4 cat. % resulted in the decreased permittivity…

An Analytic Approach to the Modeling of Multijunction Solar Cells

2020

Analytic expressions for the $JV$ -characteristics of three types of multijunction configurations are derived. From these, expressions for the short-circuit current, open-circuit voltage, and voltage at the maximum power point are found for multiterminal devices, and for series-connected tandem stacks. For voltage-matched devices, expressions for the optimal ratio of the number of bottom cells to the number of top cells are established. Luminescent coupling is incorporated throughout the article. It should be highlighted that the maximum power point of a series-connected tandem stack is described, with good accuracy for all interesting band gap combinations, by a single analytic expression.…

Analytic $JV$ -Characteristics of Ideal Intermediate Band Solar Cells and Solar Cells With Up and Downconverters

2017

The ideal diode equation is regularly used to describe the $\textit {JV}$ -characteristic of single junction solar cells. The connection between the diode equation and fundamental physics is the application of the Boltzmann approximation to describe the fluxes of photons emitted by the cell. In this paper, this approximation is used to derive analytic $\textit {JV}$ -characteristics for three photovoltaic high-efficiency concepts, intermediate band solar cells, and solar cells optically coupled to up and downconverters. These three concepts share the common feature that they allow excitation of electrons between at least three energy levels, which assures a better utilization of the solar s…

An Energy Saving Mechanism Based on Vacation Queuing Theory in Data Center Networks

2018

To satisfy the growing need for computing resources, data centers consume a huge amount of power which raises serious concerns regarding the scale of the energy consumption and wastage. One of the important reasons for such energy wastage relates to the redundancies. Redundancies are defined as the backup routing paths and unneeded active ports implemented for the sake of load balancing and fault tolerance. The energy loss may also be caused by the random nature of incoming packets forcing nodes to stay powered on all the times to await for incoming tasks. This paper proposes a re-architecturing of network devices to address energy wastage issue by consolidating the traffic arriving from di…
