The oldest evidence of bioturbation on Earth: COMMENT
2013
Recently, [Rogov et al. (2012)][1] discovered dense bioturbation fabrics, the preserved depth of which reached 5 cm, from the Ediacaran Khatyspyt Formation of the northern Siberian Platform. The age of the bioturbated beds is estimated at ca. 555 Ma. The ichnotaxon itself is attributed to the

La voce, il gesto, la scena. Elementi teatrali nelle commedie latine del XII e XIII secolo
2019
Desmoplastic ameloblastoma of maxilla: a case report
2010
Ameloblastoma is the most common neoplasm affecting the jaws, arising from the odontogenic epithelium. Despite its locally aggressive nature, it is considered to be benign. The chief histopathological variants of ameloblastoma are the follicular and plexiform types, followed by the acanthomatous and granular cell types. Uncommon variants include desmoplastic, basal cell, clear cell ameloblastoma, keratoameloblastoma and papilliferous keratoameloblastoma. When the desmoplastic type co-exists with other types, it is called as “hybrid” ameloblastoma. There are significant anatomic, histopathological and radiological differences between desmoplastic ameloblastoma and the classical type. The pur…

A Seven Mode Truncation of the Kolmogorov Flow with Drag: Analysis and Control
2009
The transition from laminar to chaotic motions in a viscous °uid °ow is in- vestigated by analyzing a seven dimensional dynamical system obtained by a truncation of the Fourier modes for the Kolmogorov °ow with drag friction. An- alytical expressions of the Hopf bifurcation curves are obtained and a sequence of period doubling bifurcations are numerically observed as the Reynolds num- ber is increased for ¯xed values of the drag parameter. An adaptive stabilization of the system trajectories to an equilibrium point or to a periodic orbit is ob- tained through a model reference approach which makes the control global. Finally, the e®ectiveness of this control strategy is numerically illustra…
Complex Dynamics in a Harmonically Excited Lennard-Jones Oscillator: Microcantilever-Sample Interaction in Scanning Probe Microscopes1
1998
In this paper we model the microcantilever-sample interaction in an atomic force microscope (AFM) via a Lennard-Jones potential and consider the dynamical behavior of a harmonically forced system. Using nonlinear analysis techniques on attracting limit sets, we numerically verify the presence of chaotic invariant sets. The chaotic behavior appears to be generated via a cascade of period doubling, whose occurrence has been studied as a function of the system parameters. As expected, the chaotic attractors are obtained for values of parameters predicted by Melnikov theory. Moreover, the numerical analysis can be fruitfully employed to analyze the region of the parameter space where no theoret…
Relations among Henstock, McShane and Pettis integrals for multifunctions with compact convex values
2013
Fremlin (Ill J Math 38:471–479, 1994) proved that a Banach space valued function is McShane integrable if and only if it is Henstock and Pettis integrable. In this paper we prove that the result remains valid also in case of multifunctions with compact convex values being subsets of an arbitrary Banach space (see Theorem 3.4). Di Piazza and Musial (Monatsh Math 148:119–126, 2006) proved that if \(X\) is a separable Banach space, then each Henstock integrable multifunction which takes as its values convex compact subsets of \(X\) is a sum of a McShane integrable multifunction and a Henstock integrable function. Here we show that such a decomposition is true also in case of an arbitrary Banac…
Set valued Kurzweil-Henstock-Pettis integral
2005
It is shown that the obvious generalization of the Pettis integral of a multifunction obtained by replacing the Lebesgue integrability of the support functions by the Kurzweil--Henstock integrability, produces an integral which can be described -- in case of multifunctions with (weakly) compact convex values -- in terms of the Pettis set-valued integral.
