New Invariant Domain Preserving Finite Volume Schemes for Compressible Flows
2021
We present new invariant domain preserving finite volume schemes for the compressible Euler and Navier–Stokes–Fourier systems. The schemes are entropy stable and preserve positivity of density and internal energy. More importantly, their convergence towards a strong solution of the limit system has been proved rigorously in [9, 11]. We will demonstrate their accuracy and robustness on a series of numerical experiments.
Thermodynamics: Classical Framework
2016
This chapter starts with a summary of the thermodynamic potentials and the relationships between them which are obtained from Legendre transformation. This is followed by an excursion to some important global properties of materials such as specific heat, expansion coefficients and others. The thermodynamic relations provide the basis for a discussion of continuous changes of state which are illustrated by the Joule-Thomson effect and the Van der Waals gas. These are models which are more realistic than the ideal gas. The discussion of Carnot cycles leads to and illustrates the second and third laws of thermodynamics. The chapter closes with a discussion of entropy as a concave function of …
Functional inequalities for generalized inverse trigonometric and hyperbolic functions
2014
Various miscellaneous functional inequalities are deduced for the so-called generalized inverse trigonometric and hyperbolic functions. For instance, functional inequalities for sums, difference and quotient of generalized inverse trigonometric and hyperbolic functions are given, as well as some Gr\"unbaum inequalities with the aid of the classical Bernoulli inequality. Moreover, by means of certain already derived bounds, bilateral bounding inequalities are obtained for the generalized hypergeometric ${}_3F_2$ Clausen function.
El proyecto de un pórtico clasicista para la iglesia de los Santos Juanes de Valencia y su impacto en el entorno urbano (1788-1856)
2020
In the year 1788, the parish of Los Santos Juanes in Valencia proposed to the City Council the erection of same classical-style portico in order to beautify its outer eastern façade, surrounding the head of the temple and relying on the Plaza del Mercado. This portico was never built, but there would be an impact of such an architectural purpose in subsequent reform plans of that outstanding urban location.
Text Linguistics and Classical Studies: Dressler and de Beaugrande’s Procedural Approach
2017
The work represents a significant scientific advancement on text linguistics from three different viewpoints. The first chapter provides an overview of the history of text linguistics from a broader perspective than usual, offering a complete reference framework. The second chapter presents the procedural approach to the study of text linguistics in a concise way, including a critical comparison with other perspectives. The third chapter constructs a very unusual bridge between theoretical linguistics and classical studies in that it takes a literary text in Latin from the early imperial period as its case study. This combination is rare, as theoretical linguists are usually oriented to mod…
Quasiparticle properties of nonequilibrium gluon plasma
2018
We apply classical gluodynamics to early stages of ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions. We start by giving a brief overview of QCD. Then we proceed to the space-time evolution of ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions in the color glass condensate framework and go through the basics of real-time gluodynamics on the lattice in the temporal gauge. We study the plasmon mass scale in three- and two-dimensional systems by comparing three different methods to measure the mass scale. The methods are a formula which can be derived from Hard Thermal Loop effective theory at leading order (HTL), the effective dispersion relation (DR) and measurement of the plasma oscillation frequency triggered by th…

Stochastic seismic analysis of MDOF structures with viscous damper devices
2009
Fluid damper devices in civil structures such as buildings or bridges are commonly used as energy absorbers for seismic protection. The problem in the response analysis of structures with filled dampers mainly consists in the fact that, due to the strongly nonlinear behavior of such equipments, the response spectrum technique fails. In this paper by using the concept of power spectral density function compatible with the elastic response spectrum and the stochastic linearization technique, the equivalent damping ratio is obtained. It is shown that once the system is linearized results obtained by Monte Carlo simulation and those obtained by stochastic analysis are in good agreement. Respons…
Fractional Hardy inequalities and visibility of the boundary
2013
We prove fractional order Hardy inequalities on open sets under a combined fatness and visibility condition on the boundary. We demonstrate by counterexamples that fatness conditions alone are not sufficient for such Hardy inequalities to hold. In addition, we give a short exposition of various fatness conditions related to our main result, and apply fractional Hardy inequalities in connection to the boundedness of extension operators for fractional Sobolev spaces.
