The Aqua-Planet Experiment (APE): Response to Changed Meridional SST Profile

2013

This paper explores the sensitivity of Atmospheric General Circulation Model (AGCM) simulations to changes in the meridional distribution of sea surface temperature (SST). The simulations are for an aqua-planet, a water covered Earth with no land, orography or sea- ice and with specified zonally symmetric SST. Simulations from 14 AGCMs developed for Numerical Weather Prediction and climate applications are compared. Four experiments are performed to study the sensitivity to the meridional SST profile. These profiles range from one in which the SST gradient continues to the equator to one which is flat approaching the equator, all with the same maximum SST at the equator. The zonal mean circ…

Il dovere di fedeltà coniugale tra sessualità legale e sessualità consentita : una indagine casistico-giurisprudenziale di diritto comparato

2022

The provision on marital fidelity seems to be a systemological consistent fact throughout most countries belonging to the so-called «Western legal tradition», despite the numerous and profound changes in family law that have crossed each of them. From a comparative law perspective and with a case-law approach, the essay analyses the role that this duty plays in the microsystem of family relationships at present. It focuses attention on a broad spectrum of situations: from the irretrievable breakdown of the marriage descending from the adultery in the divorce judgments to the related civil liability issues; from the assignment of property rights by the spouse who committed adultery to the re…

O pewnej możliwości porównawczych badań nad słownikami

2016

In the Polish lexicography, there have appeared newer types of dictionaries, including the ones derived from or modelled on earlier lexicographic works. Their evaluation reąuires that objective criteria for a comparative description of dictionaries be developed. In this paper, the author argues that a dictionary constitutes a specific narration (meta-expression) about language reality, and that is why it should be possible to explore any dictionary using a framework modelling all and any expressions produced by language users. Referred to as a “pragmatic frame”, such framework encompasses nine components: who - when - where - about what - in what way - for what purpose one addresses whom - …

A comparison between Japanese and French cost management-Contingency and institutional perspectives

2018

National audience; From an historical perspective, management accounting is a very recent phenomenon (see Johnson & Kaplan, 1987) and is culturally grounded in a few old-industrialized countries, in Europe: Germany, United-Kingdom, France, but also in Japan and in the United-Stated. Notwithstanding the cultural dominance of English-speaking countries on management, non-English speaking countries keep strong institutional and cultural roots that still influence their ways of managing companies. This is the case when looking at management accounting and more especially at cost accounting and cost management practices (now cost accounting/management). This paper, based on contingency and insti…

Identyfikacja i porównanie kryteriów oceny wiarygodności witryn internetowych

2019

The aim of the article is to both identify and compare different sets of evaluation criteria for credibility of internet services and websites. The questions asked by the author in the above work are as follows: 1. Does application of various approaches to identify and define criteria of evaluating the credibility of internet services and websites allows one to obtain the same frame of evaluation that are generał, valid and elastic? 2. Does it lead to creation of various sets of the abovementioned criteria? To answer the abovementioned questions, the author of the article shows possible approaches to identify the criteria for evaluating the credibility of websites: intuitive, theoretical and…

Child-Centered and Teacher-Directed Practices in Two Different Countries: A Descriptive Case Study in Finnish and Japanese Grade 1 Classrooms

2023

This descriptive case study examined how teaching practices were evidenced in Grade 1 classrooms in two different cultural and educational contexts, Finland and Japan. Teachers’ teaching practices were video-recorded in 53 classrooms in Finland and six classrooms in Japan and rated with the Early Childhood Classroom Observation Measure by trained investigators. Four Finnish teachers and two Japanese teachers having the highest scores in either child-centered or teacher-directed practices were selected for a descriptive case study to take a closer look at how teaching practices in terms of management, climate, and instruction are evidenced in authentic classroom situations. The analysis reve…

The conjoint conceptualization and negotiation of national cultures : qualitative study of discursive culture-concepts, their function and their rela…

2015

The study of stereotypes and stereotyping is as complex and multi-facetted as the social phenomenon itself. From being seen as an erroneous and over-generalizing image in the mind of individuals, to the current perspective that stereotypes have an individual and a social level, are shaped by long-term and short-term contextual factors, and are used for certain purposes, managed and negotiated, stereotypes have been acknowledged as a topic which cannot be studied within one academic discipline alone. This study looks into stereotype use and management during in-group discourse about other national cultures. The data consists of three focus groups consisting of Finnish students who talk about…

A Comparison of Physical Activity Levels in Childcare Contexts among Finnish and Dutch 3-Year-Olds

2016

The aim of the current study was to determine Finnish and Dutch three-year-old preschool children’s physical activity (PA) levels and how levels vary across gender, location, time of day and social contexts in both countries. A modified version of the Observational System for Recording Physical Activity in Children-Preschool (OSRAC-P) was used to measure children’s PA levels and contextual variables (e.g. group composition, prompts) of children attending childcare centres in Finland and the Netherlands. In total, 90 Finnish children (46 boys and 44 girls) and 97 Dutch children (46 boys and 51 girls) were observed. Three-level linear regression analyses with cross level interactions were use…

Schooling pupils with disabilities in Franceand Cameroon: a comparative analysis

2016

International audience; he right to education and academic success of all are the concerns of all time regardless of the contexts (UNESCO, 2008). Unfortunately, despite the solemn affirmations and commitments to education for all and inclusive education, the question of the effectiveness of including all-out pupils with disabilities remains a relatively unexplored topic. Inclusive education implies a paradigm shift in which the conditions for success are based on the ability of the school to adapt to the diversity of the public it hosts (Plaisance, Belmont, Verillon et al., 2007; Dyson, Millward et al., 1999). Some researchers (Armstrong, 2001; Ainscow, 2003) showed that if educational poli…
