Nostotrebin 6 Related Cyclopentenediones and δ-Lactones with Broad Activity Spectrum Isolated from the Cultivation Medium of the Cyanobacterium Nosto…
2020
Cyanobacteria are an interesting source of biologically active natural products, especially chemically diverse and potent protease inhibitors. On our search for inhibitors of the trypanosomal cysteine protease rhodesain, we identified the homodimeric cyclopentenedione (CPD) nostotrebin 6 (1) and new related monomeric, dimeric, and higher oligomeric compounds as the active substances in the medium extract of Nostoc sp. CBT1153. The oligomeric compounds are composed of two core monomeric structures, a trisubstituted CPD or a trisubstituted unsaturated δ-lactone. Nostotrebin 6 thus far has been the only known cyanobacterial CPD. It has been found to be active in a broad variety of assays, indi…

1-(2′-Bromobenzyl)-6,7-dihydroxy-N-methyl-tetrahydroisoquinoline and 1,2-Demethyl-nuciferine as Agonists in Human D2 Dopamine Receptors
2020
Certain D2-like dopamine receptor (DR) agonists are useful therapeutically as antiparkinsonian drugs, whereas D2-like DR antagonists or partial agonists are proven effective as antipsychotics. Two ...
Activity of Cordycepin From Cordyceps sinensis Against Drug-Resistant Tumor Cells as Determined by Gene Expression and Drug Sensitivity Profiling
2021
Cordycepin is one of the substantial components of the parasitic fungus Cordyceps sinensis as well as other Cordyceps species. It exerts various effects such as antimetastatic, antiinflammatory, antioxidant, and neuroprotective activities. Assorted studies revealed in vitro and in vivo anticancer influence of cordycepin and put forward its potential for cancer therapy. However, the role of multidrug resistance-associated mechanisms for the antitumor effect of cordycepin has not been investigated in great detail thus far. Therefore, we searched cordycepin’s cytotoxicity with regard to well-known anticancer drug resistance mechanisms, including ABCB1, ABCB5, ABCC1, ABCG2, EGFR, and TP53, and…

Elsholtzia blandaBenth: New Citral-rich Chemotypes from India
2012
The essential oils of the previously un-investigated aerial parts of Elsholtzia blanda were analyzed by GC and GC/MS. The yields of the oil were found to be 0.93 and 1.70% on fresh weight basis. A total of 25 compounds, representing 82.8% and 87.9% of the oil, were identified. The main compounds were geranial (43.5%–48.8%), neral (31.7%–34.7%), E-isocitral (1.2%–0.1%), and caryophyllene oxide (1.6%–0.7%). These two cultivars have the potential to compete with commercial citral oils.

The Cytotoxic Properties of Natural Coumarins Isolated from Roots ofFerulago campestris(Apiaceae) and of Synthetic Ester Derivatives of Aegelinol
2009
Grandivittin (1), agasyllin (2), aegelinol benzoate (3) and felamidin (20), four natural coumarins isolated from Ferulago campestris, and several synthetic ester derivatives of aegelinol (4) were tested against four tumor cell lines. Some of them were shown to be marginally cytotoxic against the A549 lung cancer cell line.
