Control of molecular dynamics with zero-area fields: Application to molecular orientation and photofragmentation

2014

The constraint of time-integrated zero-area on the laser field is a fundamental, both theoretical and experimental requirement in the control of molecular dynamics. By using techniques of local and optimal control theory, we show how to enforce this constraint on two benchmark control problems, namely molecular orientation and photofragmentation. The origin and the physical implications on the dynamics of this zero-area control field are discussed.

Time-dependent unitary perturbation theory for intense laser-driven molecular orientation

2004

We apply a time-dependent perturbation theory based on unitary transformations combined with averaging techniques, on molecular orientation dynamics by ultrashort pulses. We test the validity and the accuracy of this approach on LiCl described within a rigid-rotor model and find that it is more accurate than other approximations. Furthermore, it is shown that a noticeable orientation can be achieved for experimentally standard short laser pulses of zero time average. In this case, we determine the dynamically relevant parameters by using the perturbative propagator, that is derived from this scheme, and we investigate the temperature effects on the molecular orientation dynamics.

ηandη′transition form factors from rational approximants

2014

The $\ensuremath{\eta}$ and ${\ensuremath{\eta}}^{\ensuremath{'}}$ transition form factors in the spacelike region are analyzed at low and intermediate energies in a model-independent way through the use of rational approximants. The slope and curvature parameters of the form factors as well as their values at zero and infinity are extracted from experimental data. The impact of these results on the mixing parameters of the $\ensuremath{\eta}$-${\ensuremath{\eta}}^{\ensuremath{'}}$ system and the pseudoscalar-exchange contributions to the hadronic light-by-light scattering part of the anomalous magnetic moment ${a}_{\ensuremath{\mu}}$ are also discussed.

Direct time delay computation applied to the O + O2 exchange reaction at low energy: Lifetime spectrum of O3* species

2021

We report full quantum dynamical calculations for lifetimes of scattering resonances, among which are true metastable states, of the intermediate heavy ozone complex 50O3* of the 18O + 16O16O reaction, for any value of the total angular momentum quantum number J. We show that computations for nonzero values of J are mandatory in order to properly analyze resonances and time delays, with a view to establish a somewhat comprehensive eigenlife spectrum of the complex O3*. Calculations have been performed in a given low to moderate energy range, including the interval between zero-point energies (ZPEs) of reagents and product species. Quasi-bound states tend to be more numerous, and eigenlifeti…

Measurement of K-e3(0) form factors

2004

The semi-leptonic decay of the neutral K meson $K^{0}_{L} \to \pi^{\pm}e^{\mp}\nu (K_{e3})$, was used to study the strangeness-changing weak interaction of hadrons. A sample of 5.6 million reconstructed events recorded by the NA48 experiment was used to measure the Dalitz plot density. Admitting all possible Lorentz-covariant couplings, the form factors for vector $(f_{+}(q^{2}))$, scalar $(f_{S})$ and tensor $(f_{T})$ interactions were measured. The linear slope of the vector form factor $\lambda_{+} = 0.0284 \pm 0.0007 \pm 0.0013$ and values for the ratios $|f_{S}/f_{+}(0)|=0.015^{+0.007}_{-0.010} \pm 0.012$ and $|f_{T}/f_{+}(0)|=0.05^{+0.03}_{-0.04} \pm 0.03$ were obtained. The values fo…

The exact solution of the Riemann problem with non-zero tangential velocities in relativistic hydrodynamics

2000

We have generalised the exact solution of the Riemann problem in special relativistic hydrodynamics for arbitrary tangential flow velocities. The solution is obtained by solving the jump conditions across shocks plus an ordinary differential equation arising from the self-similarity condition along rarefaction waves, in a similar way as in purely normal flow. The dependence of the solution on the tangential velocities is analysed, and the impact of this result on the development of multidimensional relativistic hydrodynamic codes (of Godunov type) is discussed.

Singular behavior of a vortex layer in the zero thickness limit

2017

The aim of this paper is to study the Euler dynamics of a 2D periodic layer of non uniform vorticity. We consider the zero thickness limit and we compare the Euler solution with the vortex sheet evolution predicted by the Birkhoff-Rott equation. The well known process of singularity formation in shape of the vortex sheet correlates with the appearance of several complex singularities in the Euler solution with the vortex layer datum. These singularities approach the real axis and are responsible for the roll-up process in the layer motion.

Invariant density and time asymptotics for collisionless kinetic equations with partly diffuse boundary operators

2018

This paper deals with collisionless transport equationsin bounded open domains $\Omega \subset \R^{d}$ $(d\geq 2)$ with $\mathcal{C}^{1}$ boundary $\partial \Omega $, orthogonallyinvariant velocity measure $\bm{m}(\d v)$ with support $V\subset \R^{d}$ and stochastic partly diffuse boundary operators $\mathsf{H}$ relating the outgoing andincoming fluxes. Under very general conditions, such equations are governedby stochastic $C_{0}$-semigroups $\left( U_{\mathsf{H}}(t)\right) _{t\geq 0}$ on $%L^{1}(\Omega \times V,\d x \otimes \bm{m}(\d v)).$ We give a general criterion of irreducibility of $%\left( U_{\mathsf{H}}(t)\right) _{t\geq 0}$ and we show that, under very natural assumptions, if an …

Analysis and calibration of absorptive images of Bose-Einstein condensate at non-zero temperatures

2008

We describe the method allowing quantitative interpretation of absorptive images of mixtures of BEC and thermal atoms which reduces possible systematic errors associated with evaluation of the contribution of each fraction. By using known temperature dependence of the BEC fraction, the analysis allows precise calibration of the fitting results. The developed method is verified in two different measurements and compares well with theoretical calculations and with measurements performed by another group.
