Comparison of three solid-phase extraction processes in quantification of ciprofloxacin and enrofloxacin in pork meat
2012
Due to strong implications for food safety, control of fluoroquinolones residues in swine meat should be undertaken to verify compliance of the contamination levels with the maximum residue limits recently updated by Commission Regulation (EU) No. 37/2010 of 22 December 2009. Solid-phase extraction is widely used in antibiotic analysis in food of animal origin. In this study, the results of a comparative study using different types of solid-phase extraction columns, HLB, MCX, and MAX, for ciprofloxacin and enrofloxacin analysis, in pork meat, are presented. In addition, diverse sample treatments for defatting, precipitate proteins, eliminate cations, and increase the ionic strength, were us…
Analysis of pesticide residues in fruit and vegetables by matrix solid phase dispersion (MSPD) and different gas chromatography element-selective det…
1995
A comparison between different element selective detectors for the determination of organophosphorus and organochlorine pesticide residues, from fruit and vegetables, was performed by capillary GC with electron capture detector (ECD), nitrogen phosphorus detector (NPD), flame photometric detector (FPD) in the sulphur and phosphorus modes, and mass spectrometry detector (MSD) in selected ion monitoring (SIM) mode. Pesticides were extracted from the different foodstuffs by Matrix Solid Phase Dispersion (MSPD). Recoveries of 41–108 % with relative standard deviation of 2–14 % in the concentration range 0.5–10 μg L−1 were obtained in oranges, lemons, grapefruit, pears, plums, lettuces and tomat…
Disappearance of malachite green residues in fry of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) after treatment of eggs at the hatching stage
2009
Abstract The disappearance of malachite green (MG) residues was determined in fry of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) after six repeated treatments of the eggs at the hatching stage with MG oxalate at exposure levels of 1, 3 and 6 mg l− 1 for 30 min. Fry samples were taken from newly hatched fry (0 days post-hatch, d.p.h.) and at regular time intervals at 16, 31, 43, 57 and 96 d.p.h. The residues of MG and its major metabolite, leucomalachite green (LMG), were found to accumulate in the fry after MG treatments of eggs, with the highest residue levels being determined in the newly hatched fry. After exposures of 3 mg l− 1 MG, mean concentrations of 1170 ± 106 µg kg− 1 and 276 ± 38.6 µg kg…
Evaluation of a solid-phase extraction system for determining pesticide residues in milk.
1993
Abstract A simple and rapid procedure based on reversed solid-phase extraction with octadecylsilica was developed for determining chlorinated pesticide residues in milk. The need for an agent that breaks the fat globules was first investigated and the method variables were optimized on whole homogenized milk (3.6% fat content). Recovery experiments performed for 26 organochlorine pesticides at levels of 3–40 μg/l gave > 80% recoveries for all the compounds. The method was validated and evaluated by comparison with two widely used liquid-liquid extraction methods. The performance was checked by analysis of a certified standard with natural low endogenous levels (CMR 187) and different kinds …
From Waste to Resource – Utilising Residue from Ready-Made Concrete as New Aggregate
2021
Abstract A new admixture is available, to reduce the sludge produced from the cleansing of production and transportation equipment in the fresh concrete industry. The result is agglomerations of hardening concrete, that might be utilised for aggregate. Utilisation depends on adequate properties. This paper reports from investigations on the physical and mechanical properties of the aggregate and discussions on the performance relative to natural and recycled aggregates and towards requirements for utilisation. The findings indicate substantial potential for utilisation, supporting the reduction of waste for deposit and development of the concrete industry towards a circular economy.
High pressure liquid chromatography resolution of racemic mixtures of chiral tricarbonyl arene chromium(0) and cyclopentadienyl-titanium(IV) complexes
1998
Abstract Enantiomers of chiral tricarbonyl arene chromium(0) and cyclopentadienyl-titanium(IV) complexes have been separated by high pressure liquid chromatography employing a Chiralcel OD (Daicel) column, eluting with hexane/2-propanol mixtures. The capacity factors ( k ) and selectivity factors ( α ) concerning the separation of these compounds have been determined. The resolution of tricarbonyl( η 6 -methyl o -acetylbenzoate)chromium ( IV ), was carried out on semipreparative scale: a comparison of the CD spectra of the enantiomers IVa and IVb with that reported in the literature for a similar complex allowed to establish the absolute configuration [( 1R )] for the most retained enantiom…
Morphological stasis of two species belonging to the L-morphotype in the Brachionus plicatilis species complex
2006
Detection and characterization of sibling species complexes in zooplankton are critical to understanding their ecological responses and patterns of evolution. The taxon Brachionus plicatilis is a complex of at least 14 species with three major, deeply diverged clades, which are morphologically distinct. We studied morphometric differences between two species — B. plicatilis sensu stricto and B. ‘Manjavacas’ — which belong to the L-(large) morphotype and often co-occur in ponds or lakes. B. plicatilis s.s. was on average 6% longer than B. ‘Manjavacas’. They differed significantly in the measurements related to lorica spines. A significant discriminant function relating spine measurements was…
Identification of a β-Dystroglycan Immunoreactive Subcompartment in Photoreceptor Terminals
2005
PURPOSE Mutations in the dystrophin-associated glycoprotein complex (DGC) cause various forms of muscular dystrophy. These diseases are characterized by progressive loss of skeletal muscle tissue and by dysfunctions in the central nervous system (CNS). The CNS deficits include an altered electroretinogram, caused by an impaired synaptic transmission between photoreceptors and their postsynaptic target cells in the outer plexiform layer (OPL). The DGC is concentrated in the OPL but its exact distribution is controversial. Therefore, the precise distribution of beta-dystroglycan, the central component of the DGC, within the OPL of the mature chick retina, was determined. METHODS Double immuno…
Ultrastructural study of the retina in late infantile metachromatic leukodystrophy.
1992
The autopsy of a 2-year-old girl revealed a clinically unrecognized metachromatic leukodystrophy (MLD) due to an aryl-sulfatase A deficiency, characteristically affecting the central and peripheral nervous system by demyelination and by accumulation of metachromatic material. The retina though reported clinically as normal, showed the same demyelinating process in the optic nerve including the papilla but an additional intraneuronal storage of MLD-typical lysosomal residual bodies in ganglion cell perikarya of the retina. Cells of the bipolar and photoreceptor layers as well as pigment epithelial cells were not affected by MLD-specific lysosomal storage. Thus, sulfatides seem to play a part…
p27Kip1participates in the regulation of endoreplication in differentiating chick retinal ganglion cells
2015
Nuclear DNA duplication in the absence of cell division (i.e. endoreplication) leads to somatic polyploidy in eukaryotic cells. In contrast to some invertebrate neurons, whose nuclei may contain up to 200,000-fold the normal haploid DNA amount (C), polyploid neurons in higher vertebrates show only 4C DNA content. To explore the mechanism that prevents extra rounds of DNA synthesis in these latter cells we focused on the chick retina, where a population of tetraploid retinal ganglion cells (RGCs) has been described. We show that differentiating chick RGCs that express the neurotrophic receptors p75 and TrkB while lacking retinoblastoma protein, a feature of tetraploid RGCs, also express p27K…
