Determination of polyamines in biological fluids possesses medical diagnostic relevance. Despite the vast panel of analytical methods developed for polyamines they are not applied in routine clinical usage, mainly due to the time and labor consuming sample preparation step and complicated derivatization procedures. HPLC Determination of Polyphenols from Calendula officinalis L. Flowers

Abstract Romanian spontaneous flora provides a lot of resources for the determination of different chemical compounds. This study uses flower samples from Calendula officinalis L. extracted through maceration. The chemical compounds determined were: (+)-catechin, caffeic acid, chlorogenic acid, cinnamic acid, ferulic acid, gallic acid, rutin, resveratrol and quercetin. They were analyzed by using an optimized HPLC method. (+)-Catechin, caffeic acid, chlorogenic acid and quercetin could not be identified in the analyzed samples. Structural and Electrochemical Analysis of CIGS: Cr Crystalline Nanopowders and Thin Films Deposited onto ITO Substrates

A new approach for the synthesis of nanopowders and thin films of CuInGaSe2 (CIGS) chalcopyrite material doped with different amounts of Cr is presented. The chalcopyrite material CuInxGa1 − xSe2 was doped using Cr to form a new doped chalcopyrite with the structure CuInxCryGa1 − x − ySe2, where x = 0.4 and y = 0.0, 0.1, 0.2, or 0.3. The electrical properties of CuInx CryGa1 − x − ySe2 are highly dependent on the Cr content and results show these materials as promising dopants for the fabrication thin film solar cells. The first example of a Cu(II) 12-MC-4 hydroxamic metallacrown containing an ethylphosphonate group as an additional donor function in the β-position with respect to the hydroxamic group is described. The solution equilibrium of ethylphosphonoacetohydroxamic acid (PAHEt) with Cu(II) was investigated in aqueous solution by a combination of potentiometry, mass spectrometry, UV-Vis and EPR spectroscopies, and isothermal titration calorimetry. A model containing mononuclear [CuL], [CuL2]2− and [CuL2H−1]3− and pentanuclear [Cu5(LH−1)4]2− species is proposed. Acidic Co-Catalysts in Cationic Gold Catalysis.

A systematic study on the effects of Lewis or Bronsted acid co-catalysts in gold-catalyzed reactions was undertaken using representative reactions (O-, N-, and C-nucleophilic additions to alkynes). Through these reactions, it was demonstrated that an acidic co-catalyst can increase the catalyst turnover significantly, enabling practical reaction rates at competitive catalyst loadings (<1 mol %). Further investigation is currently underway to improve the understanding of the subtle principles underlying these experimental observations.

The tonoplast H(+)-PPase was previously characterized in Acer pseudoplatanus cells (Pugin et al (1991) Plant Sci 73, 23-34; Fraichard et al (1993) Plant Physiol Biochem 31, 349-359). Tonoplast vesicles were obtained from vacuoles isolated from protoplasts of A pseudoplatanus suspension cultures and used to study kinetic effects of Mg2+ and Ca2+ on PPi hydrolysis. The concentrations of ionic species (free Mg2+, free PPi, and MgPPi complexes) were calculated with apparent dissociation constants of 55.3 microM for MgPPi and 59.6 microM for CaPPi. The self-assembly of the oppositely charged water-soluble porphyrins, cobalt tetramethylpyridinium porphyrin (CoTMPyP(4+)) and cobalt tetrasulphonatophenyl porphyrin (CoTPPS(4-)), at the interface with an organic solvent to form molecular "rafts", provides an excellent catalyst to perform the interfacial four-electron reduction of oxygen by lipophilic electron donors such as tetrathiafulvalene (TTF). A non-canonical chemical feedback self-limits nitric oxide-cyclic GMP signaling in health and disease

Endothelial nitric oxide (NO) stimulates the heme protein, soluble guanylyl cyclase (sGC) to form vasoprotective cyclic GMP (cGMP). In different disease states such as pulmonary hypertension, NO-cGMP signaling is pharmacologically augmented, yet the pathomechanisms leading to its dysregulation are incompletely understood. Here we show in pulmonary artery endothelial cells that endogenous NO or NO donor compounds acutely stimulate sGC activity, but chronically down-regulate both sGC protein and cGMP formation.
