Formation of refractory metal nuggets and their link to the history of CAIs

2015

Abstract Ca, Al-rich inclusions (CAIs) often contain numerous refractory metal nuggets (RMNs), consisting of elements like Os, Ir, Mo, Pt and Ru. The nuggets are usually thought to have formed by equilibrium condensation from a gas of solar composition, simultaneously with or prior to oxide and silicate minerals. However, the exact mechanisms responsible for their extremely variable compositions, small sizes and associations with CAI minerals remain puzzling. Expanding on previous work on chemically separated RMNs, we have studied a large number of RMNs within their host CAIs from three different meteorite types, i.e., the highly primitive chondrite Acfer 094 (C2-ungrouped), Allende (CV3 ox…

Production of polymeric micro- and nanostructures with tunable properties as pharmaceutical delivery systems

2020

Abstract The production of novel graft copolymers based on poly-e-caprolactone (PCL) and polyaspartamide are useful to realize structures for potential biomedical applications. Here, the synthesis of pegylated PCL/polyhydroxyethyl aspartamide (PHEA) graft copolymers (PHEA-g-SUCC-PCL-g-PEG) with tunable composition, was achieved by followpling a synthetic strategy that involved first the grafting of preformed PCL on PHEA backbone, then polyethylen glycol (PEG), by using 1,1′-carbonyldiimidazole (CDI) to speed up the condensation reaction. Graft copolymers with a Derivatization Degree (DD) in PCL ranging between 1.1 and 4.4 mol% were obtained, and processable with different technologies for t…

A Versatile Synthesis of Fluorinated Uracils in Solution and on Solid-Phase.

2004

[reaction: see text] An efficient and convenient two-step synthesis of new fluorinated uracils is described. The first step involves the condensation of an ester enolate with a fluorinated nitrile to furnish fluorinated beta-enamino esters. In turn, these compounds react with organic isocyanates or isothiocyanates to give C-6 fluorinated uracils or thiouracils, respectively, in excellent yields. This synthesis has been successfully adapted to solid-phase conditions with high diversity, thereby facilitating the creation of small (thio)uracil libraries.

A catalytic highly enantioselective direct synthesis of 2-bromo-2-nitroalkan-1-ols through a Henry reaction.

2008

Highly enantiomerically enriched 2-bromo-2-nitroalkan-1-ols are prepared by direct condensation of aliphatic and aromatic aldehydes with bromonitromethane in the presence of a catalytic amount of copper(II) acetate and a C1-symmetric camphorderived amino pyridine ligand. Fast and Efficient Microwave-Assisted Synthesis of Perylenebisimides

2015

Perylene-3,4,9,10-tetracarboxylic acid bisimides have been widely studied as industrial pigments. Lately, these dyes have drawn considerable attention because of applications as photocatalysts and organic semi-conductors. Here, we report a novel method for fast and efficient synthesis of many different perylenebisimides, based on microwave-assisted reactions.

Synthesis of 2-isoxazolines: enantioselective and racemic methods based on conjugate additions of oximes.

2010

The formation of 3-unsubstituted 2-isoxazolines by means of condensation reactions between α,β-unsaturated aldehydes and oximes proceeds readily in the presence of catalytic amounts of anilinium salts. Mechanistically, the process involves a fast conjugate addition of the oxime and a slower intramolecular oxime-transfer reaction. The rate of oxime transfer was found to correlate with the acidity of the catalyst. This finding enabled us to discover an enantioselective process in which the fragile conjugate-addition product generated in the first stage is rapidly cyclized into the stable isoxazoline under acidic conditions, with conservation of enantiomeric excess. In summary, herein we descr…

Dialkylimidazolium dimethyl phosphates as solvents and catalysts for the Knoevenagel condensation reaction

2014

Abstract The reaction between benzaldehyde and ethyl cyanoacetate is investigated in 1,3-dialkylimidazolium salts as solvents. The impact of both ions in these ionic liquids on the yield of the condensation reaction product is examined. Potentiometric titrations are employed for quantitative analyses of the best ionic liquids, revealing these to be 1,3-dialkylimidazolium dimethyl phosphates.

The Synthesis, Condensation, and Luminescence of Stilbenoid Oligomers with Alkoxysilane End Groups

2001

ABSTRACTA synthetic route to highly luminescent organic semiconductors with curable alkoxysilyl groups is described. Monodisperse oligo(phenylenevinylene)s are rigidly connected to di- and triethoxysilanes via Heck reactions or via cross-metathesis. Hydrolysis of the silicic esters yields silanols condensing to linear and cyclic oligo-OPV-siloxanes or to three-dimensional networks, thus allowing the transformation of small molecules to fluorescent materials with well-defined chromophores. Transparent films are obtained by casting of soluble cyclosiloxanes and from OPV-silanetriols, the latter can be cured to insoluble networks.

Dimensional variability of nonstandardized greater taper finger spreaders with matching gutta-percha points

2001

Aim The purpose of this research was to determine the compatibility and dimensional variability between nonstandardized gutta-percha points and matching finger spreaders. Methodology The diameters of nonstandardized gutta-percha points (n = 15) and matching finger spreaders (n = 15) from different manufacturers (Kerr, Dentsply Maillefer, Vereignigte Dentalwerke and Roeko) were determined and statistically analysed using a profile projector under a magnification of 50 × (±0.002 mm). Results The dimensions of the finger spreaders and gutta-percha cones were inconsistent. Of the 29 groups of nonstandardized gutta-percha cones evaluated, 22 had standard deviations larger than 0.020 at D1. The s…
