TRUST AND CONFLICT BETWEEN EMPLOYEES: A QUALITATIVE RESEARCH STUDY IN GREEK HOSPITALS

THE ROLE OF TRUST IN THE ESCALATION OF IN-HOSPITAL CONFLICT

Relationship, task and process conflicts on team performance

2009

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to examine which communication contexts – virtual or traditional interactions – is more disruptive or beneficial to the effects of intragroup conflicts on team performance.Design/methodology/approachA laboratory experiment was conducted comparing 22 face‐to‐face (FTF) teams, 22 videoconference (VC) teams and 22 computer‐mediated communication (CMC) teams over a month.FindingsResults showed that VC teams are the highest performing teams and CMC teams the lowest. However, when task conflict increases VC team performance diminishes at the first stage of the teamwork. FTF team performance is also improved by task conflict, but also by process conflict. After …

‘We Don't Question Whether We Can Do This’: Teacher Identity in Two Co-Teachers' Narratives

2012

Through the concept of teacher identity, this article examines in detail the factors in the process through which the two teachers under study changed from traditional teachers into co-teaching professionals. The interview data were analysed by thematic narrative analysis. The results showed that the teachers' own attitudes, conflicts in their classrooms and experience of collaboration had created an idea of co-teaching. This idea, combined with a supportive school culture, resulted in the final solution — a shared classroom. It can be concluded that when a certain kind of teacher identity is combined with supportive collegiality, it can lead teachers to find positive solutions to a stress…

Pitfalls in the Development of Agent-Based Models in Social Sciences: Avoiding Them and Learning from Them

2019

The references on the principles and methodology for developing agent-based models of social phenomena usually describe general principles and illustrate the process using worked examples, but seldom focus on the pitfalls and errors that make practical model building a tortuous and difficult task. This chapter contains a discussion of the positive and negative aspects of my personal experience in a PhD work on simulation of large scale social conflict. The purpose will be to describe the process from the initial plan to the final dissertation, analyze the pitfalls and their overcoming in terms of principles of model development, and summarize the ideas that I found useful for practical deve…

How do different types of intragroup conflict affect group potency in virtual compared with face-to-face teams? A longitudinal study †

2008

The number of organizations using teamwork is increasing. In this context, group potency has emerged as a key construct in group research. Moreover, in the last decades, information and communication technologies (ICT) have allowed organizations to form virtual teams. Consequently, a considerable amount of research has analysed the functioning of virtual teams. We focus on intragroup conflict as a relevant antecedent of potency in computer-mediated communication groups. Specifically, the aim of this research is to examine the role of ICT in the relationship between intragroup conflict and group potency in a longitudinal study. A laboratory experiment was carried out comparing 44 groups work…

2015

The object of this study is character´s internal conflict in the novel. The primary research question is: What are the internal conflicts of characters like in Väinö Linna’s novel The Unknown Soldier? An answer to the primary research question is sought by answering the following secondary research questions: What are the specific internal conflicts like? How do they manifest? What are the most important effects they have on the structure of the narrative? What kinds of groups of characters are possible to form? How could the traditional notion of characters internal conflict, as it is traditionally defined in literary studies, be developed? In this study, internal conflict takes place when…

Narrativa dei Caraibi nel nuovo millennio

2020

The definition "Franco-Caribbean Literature" used by convention from the critique to indicate all the literary production in French of the central region of the American continent is very improper. The Caribbean region includes in fact the islands of Martinique Guadeloupe Haïti and the Guiana. Despite the diversity of ideological movements and historical events that took place in these countries the literary works of the Caribbean writers have fluctuated and continue to oscillate between two tendencies: that of rooting in tradition and that of escape from it. The writers show themselves open to comparison and dialogue with other literary and cultural traditions in order to create a narrative form that corresponds to the many inheritances of those composite populations. Here the cultural syncretism that has been created allows to recognize a common identity in the name of all that the West wanted to extinguish. The common denominator seems to be inverted in the contradictory result of courageous but dangerous encounters of curiosities that can lead to conflicts to exclusions.
