(p-Sulfomethyl)phenylalanine as a mimic of O-sulfatyl-tyrosine in synthetic partial sequences of P-Selectin glycoprotein ligand 1 (PSGL-1)
2007
Abstract Fmoc- l -( p -sulfomethyl)phenylalanine, a bioisosteric mimic of acid-sensitive O -sulfatyl tyrosine, was synthesized from l -tyrosine according to a novel route. Partial sequences of the recognition site of P-Selectin glycoprotein ligand 1 (PSGL-1), which contain (sulfomethyl)phenylalanine were synthesized on solid-phase. By fragment condensation, a sialyl Lewis x peptide conjugate containing a (sulfomethyl)phenylalanine mimic of O -sulfatyl tyrosine was prepared without destruction of the acid-sensitive fucoside bond within the saccharide side chain. Compounds of this type are of interest as sufficiently acid-stable potential inhibitors of P-Selectin in inflammatory processes.
Morphological transformations in a dually thermoresponsive coil-rod-coil bioconjugate.
2013
We report the conformational and assembly behavior of a thermoresponsive triblock biohybrid conjugate under aqueous conditions. The triblock comprises of poly(diethylene glycol methyl ether methacrylate) (PDEGMEMA) conjugated to the ends of a triple-helix forming collagen-like peptide. The circular dichroism (CD) experiment confirms the ability of the collagen-like peptide middle block to assemble as a triple helix in the hybrid conjugate. Above the LCST (∼35 °C), the collapse of the thermoresponsive PDEGMEMA polymer at the ends of the peptide domain resulted in a concomitant increase in the conformational stability of the peptide domain towards thermal denaturation. Upon cooling back, the …
Recurrence of the oxazole motif in tubulin colchicine site inhibitors with anti-tumor activity
2021
Abstract Because of its wide spectrum of targets and biological activities, the oxazole ring is a valuable heterocyclic scaffold in the design of new therapeutic agents with anticancer, antiviral, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, neuroprotective, antidiabetic and antidepressant properties. The presence of two heteroatoms, oxygen and nitrogen, offers possible interactions (hydrogen, hydrophobic, van der Waals or dipoles bonds) with a broad range of receptors and enzymes. Furthermore, the oxazole core conjugates low cytotoxicity with improved compound solubility and is well suited to structural modifications such as substitution with different groups and condensation to aromatic, heteroaroma…
Metal-organic frameworks conjugated with biomolecules as efficient platforms for development of biosensors
2021
Abstract Recent developments in the field of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have renewed the interests of scientists to bring about a major breakthrough in this field soon. These particles consist of ultra-highly porous and tremendous internal surface areas with extraordinary variabilities that make them highly potent compounds in nanomedicine. Moreover, low weight, large free volumes, and multiple functionalities of these particles have made them extremely attractive for various applications. Along with a critical role in the adsorption and separation of different analytes, they also have an immense role in the development of biosensor platforms that are expected to pave the way for accur…
High-Performance Electron-Transporting Polymers Derived from a Heteroaryl Bis(trifluoroborate)
2011
In this communication, we report that dipotassium aryl bis(trifluoroborate)s make stable and easy-to-purify yet reactive monomers under Suzuki polycondensation reactions. A bis(trifluoroborate) of 2-alkylbenzotriazole was prepared successfully and copolymerized with dibromobenzothiadiazole in the presence of a Pd catalyst and LiOH, yielding high molecular weight conjugated polymers. This polymer (P1) composed of all electron-accepting units shows excellent electron-transport properties (μ(e) = 0.02 cm(2) V(-1) s(-1)), which proves the value of the aryl bis(trifluoroborate) monomers and suggests that many other types of semiconducting polymers that could not be accessed previously can be syn…
Self-organized nanostructures of poly(4-vinylpyridine), polyaniline and polyamides due to metal complexation
2002
Comb-shaped supramolecules are constructed using flexible polymers and semi-rigid conjugated undoped or doped conjugated polymers upon complexing Zinc dodecyl benzene sulphonate, Zn(DBS) 2 . Self-organized nanostructures are formed in the bulk due to competing attractive interactions (coordination or water mediated hydrogen bonding) and repulsive polar/nonpolar interactions, showing characteristic long periods of ca. 30 A.
A spectroelectrochemical study of poly(dithienothiophenes)
1997
Abstract The use of n- and p-dopable conjugated polymers as both the working and counter electrodes in an electrochemical device has always attracted chemists and has stimulated the design of new molecules with a low energy gap that can be p- and n-doped efficiently. The present paper reports the spectroelectrochemical study of polymers obtained from several dithienothiophene isomers, molecules with three thiophene rings fused in different positions. Of the six isomers, poly(dithieno[3,4-b:3′,2′-d]thiophene) and poly(dithieno[3,4-b:2′,3′-d] thiophene) were tested against poly(dithieno[3,2-b:2′,3′-d]thiophene) and poly(dithieno[3,4-b:3′,4′-d]thiophene). The differences in their performance, …
Synthesis of γ-Amino Acid Esters by 1,4-Addition of Deprotonated α-Aminonitriles and α-(Alkylideneamino)nitriles to α,β-Unsaturated Esters.
2007
α-Aminonitriles and α-(alkylideneamino)nitriles can serve as readily available α-aminocarbanion equivalents. Their conjugate addition to α,β-unsaturated esters followed by reduction furnishes polysubstituted γ-amino acid esters in moderate to high yield.
Bile acid–amino acid ester conjugates: gelation, structural properties, and thermoreversible solid to solid phase transition
2010
Design, synthesis, and gelation properties of three novel biocompatible bile acid–L-methionine methyl ester conjugates are presented. Two of the conjugates have been shown to undergo self-assembly leading to organogelation in certain aromatic solvents. The properties of these gels have been investigated by conventional methods typical for molecular gel studies along with 13C CPMAS NMR spectroscopic studies of the native gel. In addition, properties in solid and solution states for all three compounds have been investigated, and single crystal X-ray structures of all compounds determined. Furthermore, powder X-ray diffraction studies have revealed that compound 1 undergoes a dynamic and reve…
Conjugate Alkynylation of Electrophilic Double Bonds. From Regioselectivity to Enantioselectivity
2018
This review surveys the historical efforts addressed toward the development of the conjugate alkynylation reaction. The regio- and enantioselective conjugate alkynylation of electron-deficient double bonds, most commonly unsaturated carbonyl compounds, has been an elusive reaction for a long time. Intensive research during the last decades has resulted in the identification of a number of effective reagents and catalysts to perform this reaction. Non-stereoselective conjugate alkynylation of unsaturated carbonyl compounds was first achieved by using preformed alkynyl organometallics and later with terminal alkynes under catalytic conditions. These methods paved the way for the development o…
