The main threat to agricultural crops are weeds with herbicides being the primary cropping management practice. Due to the negative impact of herbicides on health and environment, their use must be reduced. To replace herbicides, numerous cropping practices need to be implemented. This makes weed management more complicated and, together with necessity of scheduling operations at long-term and the multiplicity of cropping system impacts, explains why models are so useful for designing innovative cropping systems. The results of a phytosociological investigation about a coastal area of S. Sicily, close to Gela, are presented. The coexistence of several lithological substrata, as well as the particular climatic conditions of this area, gives rise to a noteworthy floristic and vegetational biodiversity. The paper is based on empirical material collected in connection with the research project ‘Way of life in the family parental awareness of parenthood, and children’s social development’. The sample consisted of 212 families with both parents and a six-year-old child. It was relatively homogeneous with regard to the educational background of the parents. Abstract A MINDO/3 study of thermal electrocyclic closing of the benzenium cation to form a bicyclo[3.1.0]hexenyl cation is presented. The calculated mechanism discusses the possibility of cyclization of xylenium cations on a silica catalyst or in superacid media. The validation of an analytical model recently proposed for evaluation of the shear capacity in Reinforced Concrete (RC) beams containing multiple inclination of transverse stirrups is presented. The model is a suitable extension of that currently proposed in Eurocode 2 for the evaluation of the shear resistance, and it is derived by means of the the variable-inclination stress-field theory based on Nielsen’s plastic approach. Photokinetic examination of (Z,E,E)-4,4′-distyrylazobenzene

Abstract 4,4′-Distyrylazobenzenes demonstrate a photokinetic equilibrium and a superimposed thermal backward reaction in which the absorption coefficient of one of the partners in the equilibrium is principally unknown. Using the dependence of the photostationary state on the irradiation intensity, the photochemical quantum yields ϕ 1 A and ϕ 2 B were determined, as well as the thermal rate constant k , as a function of the irradiation and observation wavelengths. Experimental difficulties and the wavelength dependence of ϕ 1 A and ϕ 2 B are discussed.
