On the accurate determination of nonisolated solutions of nonlinear equations

A simple but efficient method to obtain accurate solutions of a system of nonlinear equations with a singular Jacobian at the solution is presented. This is achieved by enlarging the system to a higher dimensional one whose solution in question is isolated. Thus it can be computed e. g. by Newton's method, which is locally at least quadratically convergent and selfcorrecting, so that high accuracy is attainable.
Iterative integral equation methods for structural coarse-graining

In this paper, new Newton and Gauss-Newton methods for iterative coarse-graining based on integral equation theory are evaluated and extended. In these methods, the potential update is calculated from the current and target radial distribution function, similar to iterative Boltzmann inversion, but gives a potential update of quality comparable with inverse Monte Carlo. This works well for the coarse-graining of molecules to single beads, which we demonstrate for water. We also extend the methods to systems that include coarse-grained bonded interactions and examine their convergence behavior. In this paper, a rigorous full-wave analysis of uniform bends in rectangular waveguides is performed. An accurate and efficient method-of-moments solution combined with the generalized-admittance-matrix (GAM) formulation is proposed in order to achieve a full-wave characterization of the analyzed structures. This full-wave modal solution turns out to be necessary for modeling complex microwave devices involving an arbitrary number of discontinuities between curved and straight waveguides, where all the modes of the involved guides are excited. Timing and patterns of the ENSO signal in Africa over the last 30 years: insights from normalized difference vegetation index data.

Abstract A more complete picture of the timing and patterns of the ENSO signal during the seasonal cycle for the whole of Africa over the three last decades is provided using the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI). Indeed, NDVI has a higher spatial resolution and is more frequently updated than in situ climate databases, and highlights the impact of ENSO on vegetation dynamics as a combined result of ENSO on rainfall, solar radiation, and temperature. The convergence of European regions has been largely discussed in the macroeconomic and the regional science literature during the past decade. Two observations are often emphasized. First, the convergence rate among European regions appears to be very slow in the extensive samples considered (Barro and Sala-iMartin 1991, 1995; Armstrong 1995a; Sala-i-Martin 1996a, 1996b). Second, as shown in Ertur and Le Gallo (see Chap. 2), the geographical distribution of European per capita GDP is highly clustered.
Approximation of Baskakov type Pólya–Durrmeyer operators

In the present paper we propose the Durrmeyer type modification of Baskakov operators based on inverse Polya-Eggenberger distribution. First we estimate a recurrence relation by using hypergeometric series. We give a global approximation theorem in terms of second order modulus of continuity, a direct approximation theorem by means of the Ditzian-Totik modulus of smoothness and a Voronovskaja type theorem. Some approximation results in weighted space are obtained. Also, we show the rate of convergence of these operators to certain functions by illustrative graphics using the Maple algorithms.

In 1983, J.E. Spingarn introduced what he called the Partial Inverse Method in the framework of Mathematical Programming. Since his initial articles, numerous applications have been given in various fields including Lagrangian multipliers methods, location theory, convex feasibility problems, analysis of data, economic equilibrium problems. Concept of computing and communication convergence has many years of history — as strategic concept it started about 1977 and yet have many definitions. The idea behind convergence concept mostly related to getting closer computing and telecommunication common technologies, services and service provider's business models. In this academic position paper some less significant obstacles of influence-reflection of convergence to legislation system, higher education programs and industry labor market are discussed.
