Bulk morphologies of polystyrene-block-polybutadiene-block-poly(tert-butyl methacrylate) triblock terpolymers

2015

Abstract The self-assembly of block copolymers in the bulk phase enables the formation of complex nanostructures with sub 100 nm periodicities and long-range order, both relevant for nanotechnology applications. Here, we map the bulk phase behavior of polystyrene-block-polybutadiene-block-poly(tert-butyl methacrylate) (SBT) triblock terpolymers on a series of narrowly distributed polymers with widely different block volume fractions, ϕS, ϕB and ϕT. In dependence of ϕ, we find the lamella–lamella, core-shell cylinder, cylinder-in-lamella and core-shell gyroid morphology, but also a rarely observed cylinder-in-lamella phase. The bulk morphologies are thoroughly characterized by transmission e…

Acrylic Graft Copolymers Via Macromonomers

1995

Comb-shaped poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) and PMMA grafted with poly(nbutyl acrylate) (PnBuA) were prepared by radical copolymerisation of ω-methacryloyl-PMMA with MMA and nBuA, respectively. The comb-shaped PMMA is characterised with respect to radius of gyration by using GPC equipped with a multi-angle laser light scattering detector. The radical copolymerisation of the macromonomer with nBuA in toluene follows complex kinetics. The dependence of the relative reactivity of the macromonomer on absolute concentration and on the ratio of comonomers may be explained by preferential solvation of comonomers by segments of their own kind (“bootstrap effect”) or even micelle formation. However…

1977

An improved anionic polymerization technique for the preparation of highly uniform styrene/α-methylstyrene linear two-block copolymers is described. Three sets of samples with molecular weights M were prepared under equal experimental conditions, namely polystyrenes (2 · 105 < M < 3 · 106), poly(α-methylstyrene)s (7 · 104 < M < 4 · 106), and block copolymers (2 · 105 < M < 2,5 · 106). Ultracentrifugation in a density-gradient does not show any chemical heterogeneities in the block copolymers. The molecular polydispersity U = Mw/Mn–1 is U = 0,03 or less as estimated from GPC-measurements. The high molecular and chemical homogeneity of the block copolymers and the optical similarity of the tw…

Investigating self-assembly and metal nanoclusters in aqueous di-block copolymers solutions

2002

Self-assembling properties of di-block copolymers/ surfactant hybrids in aqueous solution can be exploited to obtain metal nanoparticles stable dispersion. Results will be presented here for polystyrene-block-poly(ethylene oxide) solutions. A SANS structural investigation has been performed over different molecular weights of both hydrophilic and hydrophobic block, by varying temperature and concentration of the copolymer. A SAXS characterization of micellar systems containing Pt nanoparticles is reported.

Pharmakologisch aktive polymere, 5.

1987

Drug carriers were prepared by combining oligopeptidic sequences with synthetic polymeric chains. Soluble copolymers of N-(2-hydroxypropyl)methacrylamide (HPMA) were synthesized containing oligopeptidic side chains terminating in a drug model (p-nitroaniline). The susceptibility of these oligopeptidic sequences to degradation on incubation with lysosomal enzymes and human serum was evaluated by monitoring the p-nitroaniline liberation. It was shown that the drug model can be attached to the polymer carrier by means of an oligopeptidic spacer stable in blood serum and degradable after the polymer has been in contact with intracellular lysosomal enzymes. The studied polymer carriers were used…

Immobilisation of humic substances

2002

Attempts were made to immobilise humic substances (HS) by grafting them onto different carriers (styrene-divinylbenzene copolymers, cellulose and silica) as well as by their crosslinking with formaldehyde. Reaction with Merrifield resin was used for the immobilisation of HS, coupling by means of water-soluble carbodiimides to carriers containing amino-groups. Crosslinking of HS with formaldehyde (also in presence of other substances able to enter polycondensation reactions with formaldehyde) was shown to be an efficient method for their insolubilisation. Properties of the obtained immobilised HS were studied, including their potential use as sorbents for several metal ions and organic subst…

The synthesis of succinimido esters of ω-methacryloylaminocarboxylic acids affords monomers which can easily be copolymerized with methacrylamide. The resulting copolymers have a succinimido ester group fixed on a “spacer arm”, which reac…

The copolymerization of (—)-menthyl acrylate with styrene was investigated. The reactivity ratios and the Q- and e-values were found to be: r1 = 0.28 (menthylacrylate), r2 = 0.84 (styrene); Q = 0.45, e = 0.40. The …
