Visual simulation through different intraocular lenses using adaptive optics: Effect of tilt and decentration

Purpose To analyze visual quality differences between intraocular lenses (IOLs) and assess the impact of IOL decentration and tilt on visual quality. Setting University of Valencia, Valencia, Spain. PURPOSE: To evaluate the depth of focus with monofocal intraocular lenses (IOLs) in patients with different corneal profiles using adaptive optics (AO) visual simulation. Changes in Tear Protein Pattern after Photorefractive Keratectomy

PURPOSE. Changes in tear protein composition of patients who underwent photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) were analyzed. METHODS. Tear samples were obtained from 23 eyes of 23 patients immediately before PRK and on the fourth postoperative day with glass capillaries. Tear proteins were separated by sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. Digital image analysis and evaluation of the densitometric data of the electrophoretic separations were done with BioDoc-Analyze. RESULTS. Corneal confocal scanning laser microscopy in patients with dry eye disease treated with topical cyclosporine

Purpose To investigate the effect of cyclosporine on corneal ultrastructure and on major signs and symptoms of patients with dry eye disease.Patients and methods In this prospective cohort study, patients with dry eye disease were treated with a drop of cyclosporine 0.05% twice daily. Gentamicin, norfloxacin and lysozyme concentration in human tears: in vivo and in vitro study

Hen's egg lysozyme (HEL) activity was measured in vitro with gentamicin and norfloxacin by a turbidimetric technique. Gentamicin at the concentration of 10(-3) M inhibited HEL activity by 39%, while 10(-3) M norfloxacin did not affect HEL activity. However, an in vivo study in healthy persons did not show any significant statistical difference in tear lysozyme activity when 0.3% gentamicin or 0.3% norfloxacin were topically applied.
