Extensions and corona decompositions of low-dimensional intrinsic Lipschitz graphs in Heisenberg groups

2020

This note concerns low-dimensional intrinsic Lipschitz graphs, in the sense of Franchi, Serapioni, and Serra Cassano, in the Heisenberg group $\mathbb{H}^n$, $n\in \mathbb{N}$. For $1\leq k\leq n$, we show that every intrinsic $L$-Lipschitz graph over a subset of a $k$-dimensional horizontal subgroup $\mathbb{V}$ of $\mathbb{H}^n$ can be extended to an intrinsic $L'$-Lipschitz graph over the entire subgroup $\mathbb{V}$, where $L'$ depends only on $L$, $k$, and $n$. We further prove that $1$-dimensional intrinsic $1$-Lipschitz graphs in $\mathbb{H}^n$, $n\in \mathbb{N}$, admit corona decompositions by intrinsic Lipschitz graphs with smaller Lipschitz constants. This complements results that…

Emotions and Digital Delivery Platforms

2021

From the global spread of the infectious disease COVID-19, in Argentina as in other states worldwide, health measures, social emergency, economic and public order measures were taken. One of the main and earliest measures of social order in the face of this disease was the delimitation of a period of population isolation, known as preventive and obligatory social isolation. The compulsory social isolation generated unprecedented growth in the demand for services to the platform economies in Argentina in general and in Buenos Aires in particular, causing the platform delivery activity to be conceived as an essential activity. The purpose of the writing is to explore the configuration of a ce…

Spiro-fused bis-hexa-peri-hexabenzocoronene.

2018

A spiro-fused hexa-peri-hexabenzocoronene dimer was synthesized, and its physicochemical properties were studied by UV-Vis absorption and emission spectroscopy as well as cyclic voltammetry. Chemical oxidation of SB-HBC afforded its radical cation and dication derivatives, which could be reversibly reduced to the neutral state.

A Phenylene-Bridged Cyclohexa-meta-phenylene as Hexa-peri-hexabenzocoronene Precursor.

2018

A phenylene-bridged cyclohexa-meta-phenylene was synthesized via intramolecular Yamamoto coupling of an appropriate p-quinquephenyl derivative carrying four m-chlorophenyl substituents. The structural proof could be obtained by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis, which also revealed a slightly strained structure with an internal phenylene bridge. Notably, this cyclo-meta-phenylene served as a novel precursor for hexa-peri-hexabenzocoronene (HBC). The cyclodehydrogenation proceeded smoothly, providing the corresponding HBC derivative as confirmed by MALDI-TOF-MS, and UV/Vis spectroscopy.

Controlling the Host-Guest Interaction Mode through a Redox Stimulus

2017

International audience; A proof-of-concept related to the redox-control of the binding/releasing process in a host-guest system is achieved by designing a neutral and robust Pt-based redox-active metallacage involving two extended-tetrathiafulvalene (exTTF) ligands. When neutral, the cage is able to bind a planar polyaromatic guest (coronene). Remarkably, the chemical or electrochemical oxidation of the host-guest complex leads to the reversible expulsion of the guest outside the cavity, which is assigned to a drastic change of the host-guest interaction mode, illustrating the key role of counteranions along the exchange process. The reversible process is supported by various experimental d…

A coronal explosion on the flare star CN Leonis

2008

We present simultaneous high-temporal and high-spectral resolution observations at optical and soft X-ray wavelengths of the nearby flare star CN Leo. During our observing campaign a major flare occurred, raising the star's instantaneous energy output by almost three orders of magnitude. The flare shows the often observed impulsive behavior, with a rapid rise and slow decay in the optical and a broad soft X-ray maximum about 200 seconds after the optical flare peak. However, in addition to this usually encountered flare phenomenology we find an extremely short (~2 sec) soft X-ray peak, which is very likely of thermal, rather than non-thermal nature and temporally coincides with the optical …

First light observations of the solar wind in the outer corona with the Metis coronagraph

2021

In this work, we present an investigation of the wind in the solar corona that has been initiated by observations of the resonantly scattered ultraviolet emission of the coronal plasma obtained with UVCS-SOHO, designed to measure the wind outflow speed by applying Doppler dimming diagnostics. Metis on Solar Orbiter complements the UVCS spectroscopic observations that were performed during solar activity cycle 23 by simultaneously imaging the polarized visible light and the H I Lyman-α corona in order to obtain high spatial and temporal resolution maps of the outward velocity of the continuously expanding solar atmosphere. The Metis observations, taken on May 15, 2020, provide the first H I …

Relations between Air Quality and Covid-19 Lockdown Measures in Valencia, Spain

2021

The set of measures to contain the diffusion of COVID-19 instituted by the European governments gave an unparalleled opportunity to improve our understanding of the transport and industrial sectors’ contribution to urban air pollution. The purpose of this study was to assess the impacts of the lockdown measures on air quality and pollutant emissions in Valencia, Spain. For this reason, we determined if there was a significant difference in the concentration levels of different particulate matter (PM) sizes, PM10, PM2.5, and NOx, NO2, NO, and O3, between the period of restrictions in 2020 and the same period in 2019. Our findings indicated that PM pollutant levels during the lockdown period…

Plasma sloshing in pulse-heated solar and stellar coronal loops

2016

There is evidence that coronal heating is highly intermittent, and flares are the high energy extreme. The properties of the heat pulses are difficult to constrain. Here hydrodynamic loop modeling shows that several large amplitude oscillations (~ 20% in density) are triggered in flare light curves if the duration of the heat pulse is shorter that the sound crossing time of the flaring loop. The reason is that the plasma has not enough time to reach pressure equilibrium during the heating and traveling pressure fronts develop. The period is a few minutes for typical solar coronal loops, dictated by the sound crossing time in the decay phase. The long period and large amplitude make these os…

Bright Hot Impacts by Erupted Fragments Falling Back on the Sun: Magnetic Channelling

2016

Dense plasma fragments were observed to fall back on the solar surface by the Solar Dynamics Observatory after an eruption on 7 June 2011, producing strong EUV brightenings. Previous studies investigated impacts in regions of weak magnetic field. Here we model the $\sim~300$ km/s impact of fragments channelled by the magnetic field close to active regions. In the observations, the magnetic channel brightens before the fragment impact. We use a 3D-MHD model of spherical blobs downfalling in a magnetized atmosphere. The blob parameters are constrained from the observation. We run numerical simulations with different ambient density and magnetic field intensity. We compare the model emission i…
