Catalytic activity of rare-earth-supported catalysts in Friedel–Crafts acylations

1999

Abstract Friedel–Crafts acylations are catalysed by rare-earth-supported catalysts. The preparation, characterization and performance of these solid catalysts in a test acylation reaction and in a variety of syntheses of aromatic ketones are reported. In contrast to the reactions using AlCl3, the experimental conditions are non-polluting and the final work-up does not require any aqueous treatment.

Lanthanide bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)amides vs. trifluoromethylsulfonates as catalysts for Friedel–Crafts acylations

2002

Abstract The use of catalytic amounts: 1 mol% or less of perfluoroalkyl lanthanide salts as homogeneous catalysts for Friedel–Crafts acylations in non-hazardous solvents is thereafter investigated. Lanthanide bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)amides are better catalysts than the triflate analogues towards the acetylation of activated aromatic rings.

Trinuclear Lanthanide Coordination Clusters: Single-Molecule-Magnet Behavior and Catalytic Activity in the Friedel-Crafts Alkylation Reaction.

2019

A new multidentate ligand (H3 L) was synthesized by the condensation reaction of 4-tert-butyl-2,6-diformylphenol and 2-amino-4-nitrophenol. The reaction of the ligand with hydrated lanthanide nitrate produced two isostructural trinuclear coordination clusters: [DyLn3 L3 (DMF)3 (H2 O)2 ] ⋅ 3.8DMFLn=Dy (1) and Nd (2) (DMF=N, N-dimethylformamide). Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis revealed that there are three lanthanide ions arranged in an almost perfect linear fashion in both complexes. Magnetic studies show single-molecule-magnet (SMM) behavior in the Dy derivative with τ0 =1.7×10-6  s and a thermal energy barrier of 7.0 cm-1 . Both complexes were used as catalysts towards the Fried…

La fabrication des artisans : socialisation et processus de médiation dans l'apprentissage de la menuiserie

2012

This doctoral thesis in Communication Sciences offers to rethink the question of transmission of manual trades, in the context of contemporary craft industry in France. We analyse the classical dualism between “manual” and “nonmanual”, and go further with a theoretical approach of intelligence derived from Janet and Jousse. We also base our analysis on the studies about socialization, especially from Dubar, so we can involve a non-determinist model of transmitting manual crafts. In order to recognize the importance of working with materials, tools, in occupational socialization, we propose to look at its sequence as a “process of mediation” and to describe its communication device, inspired…

Catalytic Enantioselective Friedel–Crafts Reactions of Naphthols and Electron-Rich Phenols

2016

The enantioselective Friedel–Crafts reaction is a powerful tool for the construction of benzylic stereocenters in a stereodefined manner. Significant advances have already been achieved with heteroarenes such as indoles and pyrroles; however, the reaction with homoarenes is less developed. This short review covers the most relevant literature on enantioselective Friedel–Crafts reactions with naphthols and phenols. 1 Introduction 2 Friedel–Crafts Reactions Involving 1,2-Nucleophilic Addition to C=X Bonds 3 Friedel–Crafts Reactions Involving Conjugate Nucleophilic Addition to Electrophilic C=C Bonds 4 Friedel–Crafts Reactions Involving π-Allylic Complexes as Electrophiles 5 ipso-Friedel–Craft…

The Global-Local Approach for Damage Detection in Composite Structures and Rails

2021

Structural components with waveguide geometry can be probed using guided elastic waves. Analytical solutions are prohibitive in complex geometries, especially in presence of structural discontinuities or defects. The Global-Local (GL) approach provides the solution by splitting the waveguide in “local” and “global” regions. The “local” region contains the part of the structure responsible for the complex scattering of an incident wave. What happens in this region cannot be reproduced analytically. The “global” region is regular and sufficiently far from the scatterer, in order to exploit known analytical wave propagation solutions. The proposed GL approach discretizes the local region by re…

Body, Nature, Language: Artisans to Artists in the Commodification of Authenticity

1969

This article examines processes of authenticating and selling handicrafts at the conjuncture of cultural pride and economic profit in two peripheral sites (Finnish Sámiland and rural Québec), under shared conditions of late capitalism and globalising political economies. These conditions (re)structure traditionalist and modernist discourses about artisans' historical bodies, their connections to the local land (nature), and how they interactionally authenticate and sell their products through language. Under these conditions, the commodification of authenticity pushes artisans and handicrafts beyond being emblems of national belonging and collective tradition, and toward individualised, art…

Future trends for the civil rotorcraft

2013

In response to public needs about the use of air transport to connect high congested or remote areas where airports are not present, rotorcraft (or seaplanes), represents the only available alternative. Today the helicopter industry focuses its tasks in the maximization of profit, building multirole aircrafts that can be adapted to all types of use: from the military to the civilian one, from HEMS and SAR to the Off Shore one. On the other hand the rotorcraft enterprises are small companies, often characterized by a limited budget and weak demand services. Often, analyzing rotorcraft civil transportation, companies are forced to perform on-demand services, as the operating costs of the airc…
