On Modelling e-Education Ecosystems in Multicultural Contexts

A sociotechnical system is a complex inter-relationship of people and technology, including hardware, software, data, physical and virtual surroundings, people, procedures, laws and regulations. An e-Education environment is a particularly complex example of a sociotechnical system that requires equal support for user needs and technological innovations. The challenge for eEducation environment development is that in addition to the producers, users, domain experts and software developers, pedagogical experts are also key stakeholders. Hopes and Fears for the Future Among Chinese Adolescents

This study examined the contents of adolescents' hopes and fears for the future in a sample of 1,975 urban and rural 8th, 10th, and 12th graders in China. Chinese adolescents' hopes and fears were most often related to future education, occupation, parental well-being, marriage and family, academics, leisure activities, wealth, interpersonal relationships, collective issues, and self-related issues. Urban adolescents compared to rural ones reported more hopes for education and leisure activities and held fewer hopes and fears for parental well-being and interpersonal relationships. Zainteresowanie folklorystyki współczesnymi narracjami potocznymi wynika z przedefiniowania przedmiotu badań folklorystycznych. Uznanie folkloru za część kultury, która podlega takim samym przemianom jak cała kultura i jest zjawiskiem społecznie oraz historycznie zróżnicowanym, wymaga doprecyzowania podstawowych pojęć: oralności, kontekstu kulturowego, sytuacji folklorotwórczej, procesu odbioru przekazywanych treści. Crises are common in today's unpredictable environment rising the importance of crisis response strategies. Two societies in Europe are chosen: Finland, where trust in society is generalized to institutions, and Spain, where trust in society remains on the level of individuals. Using the results of the European Communication Monitor 2013 survey on crisis communication, we explored three hypotheses: “certain types of crises are often met with certain types of strategies,” “cultural context makes some crises more likely than others,” and “cultural context makes some response strategies more likely than others.” We find evidence for all three hypotheses and discuss our findings about perceived…

In recent years, we have assisted with an impressive advance in augmented reality systems and computer vision algorithms, based on image processing and artificial intelligence. Thanks to these technologies, mainstream smartphones are able to estimate their own motion in 3D space with high accuracy. Why do teachers believe some practices are better than others? Why do they criticize, or even reject, certain practices whose effectiveness has (sometimes) been demonstrated by research? The articles in this dossier aim to simultaneously interrogate the practices and beliefs of teachers in 10 school systems and contrasting sociocultural contexts. While the dossier initially highlights the variation in the meanings of these two terms, it primarily interrogates change in education and the dilemmas that this raises – between acceptance of institutional instructions and professional expertise resulting from practice.

Resumen Este trabajo tiene como objetivo fundamental analizar la ansiedad y el rendimiento académico, sus tipos y niveles en función de edad, género, cultura y estrato socioeconómico, así como contemplar las relaciones entre ambas. Se contó con 811 participantes. El 71.6% de la muestra eran musulmanes, mientras que el 28.4% eran cristianos; el 46.1% hombres y el 53.9% mujeres. Como instrumentos de evaluación se empleó el STAIC (Spielberger, 2001) y las calificaciones del alumnado. Se reflejan niveles medio-bajos en ansiedad y medios en rendimiento académico.
