Reduced VLDL clearance in ApoeNpc1 mice is associated with increased Pcsk9 and Idol expression and decreased hepatic LDL-receptor levels

Niemann-Pick type C1 (NPC1) promotes the transport of LDL receptor (LDL-R)-derived cholesterol from late endosomes/lysosomes to other cellular compartments. NPC1-deficient cells showed impaired regulation of liver_X receptor (LXR) and sterol regulatory element-binding protein (SREBP) target genes. We observed that Apoe(-/-)Npc1(-/-) mice displayed a marked increase in total plasma cholesterol mainly due to increased VLDL, reflecting decreased clearance. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation inhibited by aporphine and phenanthrene alkaloids semi-synthesized from natural boldine.

Four phenanthrene and one aporphine alkaloids semi-synthesized from boldine were evaluated for their inhibitory effect on reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation. ROS generation by neutrophils stimulated with N-formyl-methionyl-leucyl-phenylalanine was inhibited in a concentration dependent manner. Alkaloids exerted similar inhibitory effect in the hypoxanthine-xanthine oxidase system than in stimulated neutrophils, which could be attributed to a direct ROS scavenging activity. None of the alkaloids assayed had any effect on xanthine oxidase activity. Therefore the synthesized alkaloids might constitute an alternative therapy in inflammation disorders in which ROS generation is involved.

Linear and cyclic radio k-labelings of trees

International audience; Motivated by problems in radio channel assignments, we consider radio k-labelings of graphs. For a connected graph G and an integer k ≥ 1, a linear radio k-labeling of G is an assignment f of nonnegative integers to the vertices of G such that |f(x)−f(y)| ≥ k+1−dG(x,y), for any two distinct vertices x and y, where dG(x,y) is the distance between x and y in G. A cyclic k-labeling of G is defined analogously by using the cyclic metric on the labels. In both cases, we are interested in minimizing the span of the labeling. Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and trace metal contamination of coastal sediment and biota from Togo

The state of contamination of tropical environments, particularly in Africa, remains a relatively under explored subject. Here, we determined polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) and trace metal concentrations in coastal sediment and biota samples (fish and mussels) from Togo (West Africa). In the sediments, the ∑21 PAH concentrations ranged from4 ng g(-1) to 257 ng g(-1), averaging 92 ng g(-1). Concentration ratios of low molecular weight PAHs (2-3 rings) versus high molecular weight PAHs (≥4 rings) were always lower than 1 (ranging from 0.08 to 0.46) indicating that high molecular weight PAHs were dominant in all sediment samples, and that PAHs originated mainly from anthropogenic combus…

Vis/NIR spectroelectrochemical analysis of poly-(Azure A) on ITO electrode

Electrochromic behavior of poly-(Azure A) on indium–tin oxide electrode is analyzed in an aqueous potassium nitrate solution. The dependence of the absorbance on the applied potential during cyclic voltammograms proves very interesting at two selected characteristic wavelengths: at 925 nm, attributed to an intermediate species and another at 735 nm, attributed to the oxidized form of the polymer. Molar absorptivity coefficients for both species have been calculated from the relationship between current and the derivative of absorbance with respect to time. Calculation of the surface concentration of Zn(I) from the anodic voltammetric peak of zinc combined with the QCM results

Deconvolution of voltammograms of anodic dissolution of zinc has proved to be possible through the electrochemical quartz crystal microbalance data and the F(dm/dQ) function. This deconvolution allows to calculate the surface concentration of Zn(I) and to obtain an estimation for the kinetic constant of the second single-electron transfer. Abstract Thin films of poly(3,4-ethylendioxythiophene) (PEDOT) were electrochemically deposited on gold electrodes in aqueous media. The role of perchlorate, lithium, and water during the charge/discharge of PEDOT films was investigated by cyclic voltammetry together with EQCM, vis − NIR spectroscopy, and acoustic impedance, also by means of ac-electrogravimetry in a 0.1 M LiCl O 4 aqueous solutions. Complexation and Extraction of PAHs to the Aqueous Phase with a Dinuclear Pt II Diazapyrenium‐Based Metallacycle

New palladium and platinum metallacycles have been synthesized by reaction between a 2,7-diazapyrenium-based ligand and Pd(II) and Pt(II) complexes. The inclusion complexes between the metallacycles and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in CD(3)NO(2) and D(2)O were studied by NMR spectroscopy. The structures of the inclusion complexes of the Pt metallacycle as host with pyrene, phenanthrene, and triphenylene were confirmed by single crystal X-ray crystallography.
