Optical thermal filters for eXTP: manufacturing and characterization

2020

In order to ensure the effective detection of X-ray astronomical detectors by blocking ultraviolet, visible and infrared light, adding optical thermal filter in front of the load is an effective method. According to the scientific requirements of eXTP, optical thermal filters with aluminized polyimide (PI) film structure had been designed and tested in this paper, the results of mechanical tests including burst pressure, vibration and acoustic tests, also the transparent properties of optics in UV, Vis and IR lights are presented. The mechanical test results show that the filters for LAD and SFA can't pass the acoustic tests, causing the thickness of PI should be increased or a nickel mesh …

Diode laser reliability in dynamic laser speckle application: Stability and signal to noise ratio

2018

Abstract The biospeckle, or dynamic laser speckle, is used as a potential tool to monitor activity in many biological and non-biological materials from agriculture to medicine, and it is usually based on the use of He-Ne and diode lasers, the latter of which has great potential to be embedded in portable equipment. Some queries about the stability of the diode laser were raised, such as the real influence of the mode hopping phenomenon as a drawback in solid-state devices in comparison to the well-known He-Ne lasers, and thus we decided to test it . In addition, we present an alternative way to enhance the stability and the signal-to-noise ratio of the information using a relative index rat…

Multilayer (Al,Ga)N Structures for Solar-Blind Detection

2004

We report on solar-blind metal-semiconductor-metal (MSM) detectors fabricated on stacks of (Al,Ga)N layers with different Al mole fraction. These structures were grown by molecular beam epitaxy on sapphire substrates to allow backside illumination and a low-temperature GaN buffer layer. They consist of a 0.3-0.4-/spl mu/m active layer grown on a thick (Al,Ga)N window layer (/spl ap/1 /spl mu/m) that is transparent at the wavelength of interest. Different Al contents were used in the window layer. We observed that, in general, samples with a high Al content were cracked, which is explained in terms of mechanical strain. MSM photodetectors fabricated on these samples showed large leakage curr…

Experimentelle In-vitro-Studie zur Evaluierung eines elektronischen Detektors für die digitale Radiographie

2004

Purpose: To evaluate the contrast-detail performance of a flat-panel detector system, we performed a comparative study of this flat-panel system versus storage phosphor and conventional screen-film systems. Materials and Methods: Bone models made of human humeri were prepared with foreign bodies, fracture lines and drilled holes to create artificial fractures, osteolyses or metastases. Immersed in a water bath, hard copy images of these models were acquired with the same exposure dose (55 kV; 3.2 mAs) on the flat-panel detector, two state-of-the-art storage phosphor systems (PCR®, ADC®) and two conventional screen-film systems (Insight®, T-Mat®). Using a standardized protocol with a 4-point…

Crystal growth of Hg1−xMnxSe for infrared detection

2007

In this work, we report on the successfully growing Hg"1"-"xMn"xSe bulk crystals using a mixed, travelling heater method and Bridgman method, two-step procedure. Firstly, and with the aim of reducing Hg high pressure related to the high temperature synthesis reaction between the components in elemental form, HgSe crystals were synthesized and grown by the cold travelling heater method. Secondly, previously sublimated Mn and Se were incorporated to complete the desired composition. Then, the Bridgman growth was carried out by heating the alloy at a temperature of about 880^oC and lowering it at rate of 1mm/h through a gradient of 25^oC/cm. The Hg"1"-"xMn"xSe crystals were characterized by sc…

Improving the vertical radiation pattern issued from multiple nano-groove scattering centers acting as an antenna for future integrated optics Fourie…

2019

The stationary wave integrated Fourier transform spectrometer (SWIFTS) is based on the sampling of a stationary wave using nano-scattering centers on the surface of a channel waveguide. Single nano-scale scattering centers above the waveguide surface will radiate the sampled signal with wide angular distribution, which is not compatible with the buried detection area of infrared (IR) detectors, resulting in crosstalk between pixels. An implementation of multiple diffraction nano-grooves (antenna) for each sampling center is proposed as an alternative solution to improve directivity towards the detector pixel by narrowing the scattering angle of the extracted light. Its efficiency is demonst…

Integrated SINIS refrigerators for efficient cooling of cryogenic detectors

2002

In this paper we report recent results obtained with large area superconductor-insulator-normal metal-insulator-superconductor tunnel junction coolers. With the devices we have successfully demonstrated electronic cooling from 260 mK to 80 mK with a cooling power of 20 pW at 80 mK. At present, we are focusing on obtaining similar performance in cooling cryogenic detectors. Additionally, we present recent results of successful operation of a metalsemiconductor structure with a Schottky barrier acting as the tunnel barrier and the possibility to use this kind of structures for on-chip cooling.

Charge Transport Properties in CZT Detectors Grown by the Vertical Bridgman Technique

2010

Great efforts are being presently devoted to the development of CdTe and CdZnTe detectors for a large variety of applications, such as medical, industrial, and space research. We present the spectroscopic properties of some CZT crystals grown by the standard vertical Bridgman method and by the boron oxide encapsulated vertical Bridgman method, which has been recently implemented at IMEM-CNR (Parma, Italy). By this technique the crystal is grown in an open quartz crucible fully encapsulated by a thin layer of liquid boron oxide. This method prevents contact between the crystal and the crucible thereby allowing larger single grains with a lower dislocation density to be obtained. Several mono…

Responsivity measurements of silicon carbide Schottky photodiodes in the UV range

2014

We report on the design and the electro-optical characterization of new classes of 4H-SiC Schottky UV detectors, fabricated employing Ni 2 Si interdigitated strips. We have measured, in dark conditions, the forward and reverse I-V characteristics as a function of temperature and C-V characteristics. Responsivity measurements of the devices, as function of wavelength in the UV range, of package temperature and of applied reverse bias are reported. We also compared devices featuring different strip pitch sizes, discussing their performances, and found the device exhibiting best results.
